■ The time to progression of non-Hodgkin’slymphoma (NHL) is significantly prolonged with theaddition of pixantrone* to rituximab therapy,according to results from a multicentre phase III trialpresented at the CIBC World Markets 16th AnnualHealthcare Conference. Patients with relapsed orrefractory NHL received either pixantrone 90 mg/m2

on days 1 and 8, every 21 days, and rituximab 375mg/m2 on days 1, 8, 22 and 29, or rituximab alone.For the 38 evaluable patients, the median time toprogression was significantly prolonged in patientsreceiving combination therapy compared withmonotherapy recipients (13.2 vs 8.1 months). A higherproportion of combination recipients thanmonotherapy recipients achieved a complete response(35% vs 11%).
