ADCP QCForm a Working group of experts and practitionersand follow the lead from the biophysical & CTD working groups
Invite experts from across the nodes/mooring sub facilities and ABOS
Term of ReferenceTo develop an integrated and scientifically robust strategyfor the calibration, validation and interpretation of ADCP data, as collected by IMOS facilities

ADCP is a complex indirect measurement of current through acoustic backscatter from the water column.
The IMOS toolbox used for moorings processing has implemented some basic ADCP QC used by CSIRO for INSTANT deep water moorings. These need reviewing further development.

SOFS2ea
Cowley 2012
Echo amplitude test applies to surface bins only.
Where the difference between consecutive bins is greater than the threshold, the point and all above it are discarded.
SOFS2hvel
Cowley 2012
Where the absolute horizontal velocity is greater than the threshold, the point is discarded
SOFS2vvel
Cowley 2012
Where the absolute vertical velocity is greater than the threshold, the point is discarded
SOFS2cmag
Cowley 2012
Where 3 or more of the 4 beams are less than the threshold, the point is discarded
SOFS2pg
Cowley 2012
Using the 4-beam solution, anything less than the threshold is discarded
SOFS2zonal

ADCP QC
IMOS, driven by science planning• Decisions about what to observe, and where, are driven by Science Plans addressing
five major research themes:
• Science Plans are being internationally peer reviewed

Timor Sea Tides
Deep mooring: • Surface and internal-tide energy have
similar magnitudes• Internal-tide energy follows the local
spring-neap cycle.
Shallow mooring:• Internal-tide energy is an order of
magnitude smaller than surface tide energy
• Internal-tide energy is only present after the 1st of September
Internal-tide generation on 5 DEC• Most generation occurs in the deepest
part of the Timor Sea
