What is teach.NSW?
teach.NSW is a major initiative launched by the
NSW Department of Education and Training to
promote teaching as a career in NSW public schools
Graduate Recruitment Program
The GRP recruits final year teacher education students for casual, temporary and permanent teaching in NSW public schools
There is no closing date for applications, however, once you graduate you are no longer eligible to apply through the GRP
What is the GRP?
All teacher education students in their final 2 semesters of study in NSW and ACT universities and La Trobe University (Wodonga Campus)
Only Australian citizens or permanent residents can apply for permanent employment
International students can apply for casual teaching approval in accordance with their work rights under their visa. Canadian students apply to the NSW Institute of Teachers for their Letter of Professional Standing.
Who is eligible to apply for the GRP?
All applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of English
You will need to undertake this English language proficiency assessment if you obtained your undergraduate qualifications in a country where English is not the main language of the majority of the population.
This assessment will take place once your qualifications are found to be satisfactory and before your interview.
For more information go to the teach.NSW website at
www.teach.nsw.edu.au

Casual teaching
Temporary teaching
Permanent teaching
Casual teachers provide day-to-day relief for absent teachers.
Temporary teachers may teach in engagements of 4 weeks to one year and have pro rata access to most of the benefits of permanent teachers including sick and long service leave.
Some teachers choose casual or temporary employment to balance work
and family responsibilities.
Employment Opportunities
What are the benefits of casual and temporary teaching?
Statistics show experienced casual and temporary teachers are very competitive in the merit selection process.
Both will enhance your priority date through the Teacher Employment Priority Scheme – TEPS. Every 50 days of teaching enhances your priority date by 6, 12 or 18 months.
Casual and temporary teaching is recognised and over time will increase your salary and bring forward your first increment when you are appointed permanently.
Both provide opportunities to experience a variety of learning environments and help you hone your classroom management skills.
Casual and Temporary Teaching
Seeking work as a casual or temporary teacher is easy:
You’re automatically registered with Casual.Direct – you could be contacted to fill a vacancy in your nominated areas
You could provide a brief resume to schools in areas in which you’re available to teach
You could apply for vacancies advertised at the teach.NSW website:
www.teach.nsw.edu.au/vacancies
Good casual and temporary teachers are in high demand across the State.
