AALTO FELLOWS
2014
Intensive course, summer internship and study trip on high-growth entrepreneurship
The Aalto Fellows is a five-month study and work program designed to develop attendees a theoretical and practical understanding of the techniques of growing technology companies.
Aalto Fellows provides unparalleled opportunities in networking, international exposure, entrepreneurial employment, and private equity.
Aalto Fellows 2014 started with intensive classroom sessions in May. During Summer, the Fellows worked for real startup companies, organized mini workshops with those companies and prepared case studies for other Fellows. In September, the Fellows presented the case studies and headed to a study trip to Tel Aviv.

Course Schedule 2014
The course started with two weeks long intensive study period, which taught the Fellows the basics of high-growth entrepreneurship. The speakers were experts in their fields, including Tuomas Lang (Intera Partners), Kristian Ranta (Mendor), Katia Duncker (Bird&Bird), etc.
The topics covered included the key principles of leadership, team building, innovation, selling and creativity.
Intensive Course Summer Internships
“The intensive learning period in May was probably the most educational two weeks of my University studies so far.”
Heikki Koponen
“Aalto Fellows was one of the most transformative and enlightening experiences I have had during my university years. The course gave me great direction and encouragement, helping me to make the jump to the startup world.”
Aura Koljonen
Each Fellow worked for a real startup or PE company for the summer. During the summer, the Fellows prepared case studies to be solved by the other Fellows.
Each Fellow organized a workshop for other Fellows in his/her summer intership company to solve a real world business problem of the company.
“Definitely one of the most interesting trips I’ve been on. Mazel Tov!”
Vili Ärmänen
In the end of September, the Fellows went to Tel Aviv to learn from the local entrepreneurship ecosystem. The students visited startup companies, venture capitalists, accelerators, R&D centers, etc.
During the trip, the students learned e.g. that Israeli companies are successful as they aim to be global from the day one, they accept failure as a natural part of the path to success, and they dare to do things according to their vision no matter what others say.

Student’s Key Learnings
Aalto Fellows was truly amazing experience among my studies. Never have I learned so much during one course as in Aalto Fellows. On top of that, it didn’t feel like an ordinary course, but a great expe-
rience that just happened to teach me a lot.
My key learnings from Aalto Fellows were:
• How Venture Capital and other technicalities in early stage startup work. During intensive course in May, we had professionals tell from first hand perspective how it is like to found a startup, and it was both really interesting and educating.
• How a startup works from inside. I had a chance to work at a growing startup company (HeiaHeia) during summer. It was really eye-opening to witness startup daily functions from inside and be part of them.
• Lessons from top performers in Tel Aviv tough school of startups. There I learned how agile decision-making and aggressive expansion can make or break a startup.
I truly recommend Aalto Fellows for anyone who is even remotely in-terested in entrepreneurship and startups. It provides great learning experience and unique chance to work in some interesting companies. All this is done together with amazing people.
