Concluding this year’s classical
programme, West End and
Operatic leading lady Rosemary
Ashe will present a programme
including songs by Porter,
Bernstein, Coward and Sondheim.
Humour and high notes form a
delightful mixture, as she tells
stories and sings songs drawn
from her long and varied career. The highlight of the evening
will be a performance of a Medley from the Phantom of the
Opera, in which Rosemary originated the role of Carlotta.
The lunchtime series starts on Friday with Noriko Ogawa
who will present ‘Jamie’s Concert’, a relaxed performance,
which will consist a completely different programme to the
evening's concert. ‘Jamie’s Concert’ is aimed at anyone who
has experience with Autism. Although aimed to give respite,
Noriko also welcomes those with autism, if the carer feels if
this appropriate and of benefit.
On Saturday we have Jonas
Stonkus. Jonas will perform
a mixture of arrangements
and original compositions for
the Accordion – which has a
long history in Harwich – and
will show the capabilities
of this as a solo instrument. Lithuanian born, Jonas was
recognised in 2014 with a Lithuanian presidential award for
international achievements.
Then on Monday, Lizz
Lipscombe will present a
programme that demonstrates
her versatility as a violinist
across the genres, including
Meditation by Massenet,
Gelouise by Gade as well as
Ashokan Farewell by Ungar
and the tour-de-force that
is Czardas by Monti. She
has performed with Smokey
Robinson, Newton Faulkner and
Peter Gabriel, as well as performing on Later… with Jools
Holland.
A veritable supergroup made up of British jazz’s top names,
The Ben Crosland Quintet follows up its acclaimed Ray
Davies Songbook Volume One live shows and CD with the
much-anticipated Volume
Two. Alongside Ben on bass
guitar are John Etheridge,
electric guitar; Steve Lodder,
keyboards; Brandon Allen,
tenor sax; and Dylan Howe,
drums. Their inventive
arrangements of the Kinks'
master canon never stray far from his household melodies
while the individual musicians take flight with coruscating
soloing.
FolkJacob and Drinkwater are
Lukas Drinkwater (guitar
& vocals) and Tobias ben
Jacob (double bass & vocals).
This Devon based duo were
in great demand at last
summer’s festivals and this
Spring embark upon their
nationwide “This Old River”
tour to promote their brand
new studio album. Described
by BBC Radio 6 as “Stand out New Folk” and by Folk Radio
UK as “intense and spellbinding”, they are bringing their
combined talents to Harwich for the first time.
Cohen Braithwaite
Kilcoyne is a young singer
and instrumentalist who
is firmly rooted in the folk
traditions of the British Isles.
He plays melodeon and anglo
concertina. He is the driving
force behind current festival
favourites “Granny’s Attic”
who were BBC Folk Award nominees in 2014. Much of his
repertoire reflects the industrial Midlands where he was
born and bred but he also strays into Edwardian music hall,
sea songs and shanties. This will be his first visit to Harwich.

musical atmospheres through
improvisation, balancing magic
and reality. Their HF19 date has
been arranged with Going Dutch and the Jazz Promotion
Network.
Time Out magazine
described guitar threesome
Preston Glasgow Lowe as
young jazz heavyweights,
with the London Evening
Standard claiming: “Think
Metallica meets Mingus or
Hendrix, Jaco Pastorius or Animal from The Muppets on a
bro-date.” Dazzling technique combined with subtlety and
grace is the hallmark of this exciting power trio.
Wivenhoe-based guitarist Chris
Allard has worked with many
top artists including Dame Cleo
Lane, Jacqui Dankworth, Claire
Martin and Jamie Cullum, while
Memphis-born singer, keyboard
player and songwriter Charlie
Wood began his stellar career as
sideman for the legendary blues
guitarist Albert King. Together
they deliver an authentic blend
of blues, soul and jazz and their HF19 appearance will draw
largely from Charlie’s seventh album Tomorrow Night, which
includes covers of BB King, Otis Redding and Bobby “Blue
Bland” among his own self-penned material.
Chelmsford-based Raz are Pera on bass, George Krethlow-
Shaw on drums and Dan Goldstone on guitar and together
they cross musical boundaries, creating their own blend
of jazz, funk, rock, pop and fusion with Latin beats and
inflections thrown in. A talented young group, Raz is making
significant waves on the Essex music scene.
Callum Alger will perform
on Tuesday, presenting a
programme of J.S Bach,
Stanley and Grigny on the
wonderful organ at St.
Nicholas. Callum was the
winner of the inaugural IAO/
RCO Organ Competition
and will hold the prestigious
position of Organ Scholar
at Westminster Cathedral
from September.
On Wednesday, Guitarist
and Composer Sam Piha will
perform original compositions
from his critically acclaimed
new album, “Postcards from
Crouch End”. The album is
inspired by places as far afield
as Columbia, Japan and of
course Crouch End. Sam will be
joined by special guest, Louise
Garner.
Completing the lunchtime series on Thursday, Katherine
Bryan will present a contemporary programme including
Sonatine by Milhaud, Le Merle Noir by Messiaen and Achat
Sha’alti by Paul Schoenfield.

as one of the world’s most
renowned flute soloists. She
studied flute at the Julliard
School and went on to be

Audi Music Competition.
Katherine’s recording, ‘Silver
Voice, on Chandos in 2017

the Week.
