THANK YOU to EVERYONE that organized,
participated, volunteered and sponsored our
22nd Annual Golf Classic. The event was a
success, the course was beautiful
and weather was perfect!
See you again next year!
Bible Study Resumes on Wednesday, October 11 Scripture studies on the Acts of the Apostles will resume on Wednesday, October 11
with a morning session at 9:15 am until 11:15 am and then an identical evening
session at 7:00 pm through 9. You do not have to be a scholar to attend as our
studies are very basic. Everyone is welcome. If you attended the first session please
review chapters 2 through 4 in preparation for our class. Contact Ed Koszykowski,
Coordinator of Parish Ministries, at 726-6700 if you have any questions.
Liturgical Ministers Please submit your unavailable dates for the period of November 1-January 1 into the
MSP system (http://www.rotundasoftware.com/ministry/St_Nicholas) by October
15. This schedule will include many Holy Days, including All Saints, Immaculate
Conception, and Christmas. Please take the time to input your preferred Mass time
for these Masses. Those awaiting training for Servers, Lectors, and Eucharistic
Ministers should also update their availability so they may be included. If you have no
internet access, please call Karen at 632-1007.

Did You Know? Because sharing information about what’s happening in the parish is a way of welcoming those who are new to the parish and keeping all the
parishioners informed. We try to cover different aspects of parish life in the “Did You Know?” column. If you have a suggestion for this column, please
call the parish office.
SOS
Shoebox of Support Our parish committee, SOS,
Shoebox of Support, is focused
on staying in touch with our
parishioners in college. Our
main focus is to send care
packages before finals in the
winter and spring. We send
them a shoe box filled with
goodies designed to help them
survive the stress and turmoil
of finals week. In this day and
age of texts and e-mail, actually
receiving a package in the mail
is a huge morale boost! During
the fall and spring semesters
we request parents submit their
child’s address so we can mail
it to them. We also include
those college kids living at
home. As a committee we ask
for donations of cookies, candy,
snacks, trinkets and funds to
cover shipping. We also write
personal notes of
encouragement to each
student and include them in the
box. If you’re interested in
helping in any way; baking,
writing notes, collecting
goodies, donating shoe boxes,
making a
donation,
whatever, please
contact
Cathy Green,
791-8232.
SAVE THE DATES
FLU SHOTS will be offered at St. Nicholas Flu shots will be offered at Coffee & Donuts after both Sunday masses on the follow-ing dates: October 15 and November 19. Shots will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. No need to sign up before. Bring your prescription and medical insur-ance card, otherwise the cost is $25.00. Cash or check made out to Wal-Mart will be accepted. If other immunizations are desired, please contact Crystal Gedris, PharmD at 618-832-8381 or email Crystal at [email protected].
Book Club She always called him Mr. Hill, and he always called her Mrs. Kennedy. In this book Mrs. Kennedy and Me, Jackie Kennedy’s personal Secret Service agent, Clint Hill, details his close rela-tion with the First Lady during the four years leading up to and following President Kennedy’s tragic assassination. In those four years, Hill was by Mrs. Kennedy’s side for some of the hap-piest moments as well as the darkest. Diane Di Tucci leads the discussion on Thursday, November 2 from 9:30-11:30 am in the Spirituality Center.
TRUNK OR TREAT Mark your calendars for the annual St. Nicholas Trunk or Treat party following
mass on Saturday, October 28. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes to mass (NO Masks Please). Following mass, hotdogs and other refreshments will be available in the Parish Hall and of course plenty of trunk trick or treating in the parking lot. We had some very spooky car decorations last year, so don’t miss out on the fun.
THE REWARDS AND CHALLENGES OF PARENTING St. Nicholas is offering a parenting series which will assist in developing parenting skills that strengthen relationships within the family, build skills for raising responsi-ble children and nurture family faith and spiritual growth. Consider joining others in building healthy and confident families. The series will meet once a month on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Spirituality Center. Sr. Joyelle Proot is the facilitator for this series. The last time she offered these skills, the partici-pants wanted to frame her picture to remind them of the ideals and skills she taught. Dates to remember for the series: Tues-days, October 10, November 14, January 9, February 13, March 13 and April 10. For more information or questions please Call Barb Furdek at 632-1137.
Yesterday’s Kids The October meeting of Yesterday’s Kids will meet in the Parish Hall at 6:00 pm on Monday, October 9. Dinner will consist of homemade soups and chili. Cost of the meal is $5.00. Entertainment will be provided by singer Thomas Myrda.
We are excited to announce the next Women to Women event which will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall . “One Woman Trust” is the theme of this special event, and will feature Jackie Clinton as our guest speaker. Remember, this event is open to “all” women, so ask a friend. Reservations will be taken the weekends of October 14/15 and 21/22 after the masses. The cost is $15.00 and light

Everyday Stewardship You know how the story goes. Your son or daughter swears that while you were gone he or she only invited two friends over to watch a movie and eat popcorn. How those other twenty-five people got there with beer is still a mystery. They were not invited but your young host felt pretty uncomfortable just kicking them out. You did teach them about good hospitality after all. That sure is a twisted view of hospitality, perhaps, but it does make me reflect on those I am willing to welcome into my home and those I am not. Who is my neighbor? Would I extend hospitality to the person that is alone? I have done so for holidays. But I have known them well. Would I invite someone into my home that I did not know? It could be unsafe. But what if I found myself alone somewhere without any connections. Where would I turn? Who could I trust? There are no simple answers here but I wonder if we should really have the luxury of not asking the question. If the Christian will not invite in the lost and forsaken, who will? In the coming days, I suggest we all reflect on those in our midst who seem to be alone. Who can we invite into our lives who need something much more important than a party? Who is out there who simply need friends? They may not need a physical shelter but they do need the warmth of Christian hospitality and the kindness of others. —Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS
