4-H Chick Chain (Local) Who: Juniors & SeniorsWhat: A 22-week program teaching how to raise dual purpose pullets.Appraisal: Show & Auction When: Mandatory trainings in March and April. Finish September through November.

4-H Poultry Project (Local)Who: Juniors & SeniorsWhat: A project for youth to keep poultry for pets, for show, or for breeding.Appraisal: County fair When: Program lengths vary depending on county fair dates. Regular meetings required to ensure learning.

4-H Poultry Meat Pen (2017–2018 Rollout)Who: Juniors & SeniorsWhat: Broilers, turkeys, or ducks raised for uniformity and meat characteristics; A single turkey, a pair of broilers, and a pair of ducks. No more than 2 meat pens may be entered by a single exhibitor.Appraisal: Show (May be a part of the county fair, Chick Chain show, or stand alone.) When: Program lengths vary depending on species. Broilers not to exceed 5.5 lbs. or 8 weeks of age; turkeys not under 14 lbs. or over 18 weeks old; ducks 4 to 9 pounds and not over 10 weeks old.

4-H Golden Egg Contest (2017–2018 Rollout)Who: Juniors & Seniors; for participants in year 2 or more of a Chick Chain project or a 4-H poultry projectWhat: Contest for judging uniformity and interior quality assessment of best dozen eggs sent or hand delivered. Appraisal: At 4-H Golden Egg Contest Awards Banquet When: Spring

4-H Good Egg Flock (2018–2019 Rollout)Who: Juniors & Seniors; for participants in year 2 or more of a Chick Chain project or a 4-H poultry projectWhat: Contest to determine the most efficient flock yield-ing the highest quality eggs in the state. Members deliver their 3 highest producing hens (all the same breed); contest is a period of 5 days.Appraisal: At 4-H Good Egg Contest Awards Banquet When: Spring

Poultry ShowmanshipWho: Juniors & SeniorsWhat: An event associated with Chick Chain or a 4-H poultry project.Appraisal: County fair or Chick Chain showWhen: Dates for training usually follow a mandatory meeting as a part of learning prior to the appraisal, usually sometime in summer or fall.

Winning Senior Team to attend and represent Alabama at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Contest.Eligibility: Team members may have participated in one or more of the following 4-H poultry programs: 4-H Avian Bowl, 4-H Golden Egg Conference, 4-H Good Egg Contest, 4-H Poultry Project, 4-H Meat Pen, or 4-H Chick Chain.Appraisal: Alabama State 4-H Avian Bowl ContestWhen: Spring through fall

4-H Poultry Judging Contest (2017–2018 Rollout)Who: Junior & Senior teams and individuals What: Contest to test understanding of grading and evaluation of 3 poultry commodities (eggs, meat, and laying hen production); winning senior team to attend and represent Alabama at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference.Eligibility: Team members may have participated in one or more of the following 4-H poultry programs: 4-H Poultry Judging Contest, 4-H Golden Egg Contest, 4-H Good Egg Contest, 4-H Poultry Project, 4-H Meat Pen, or 4-H Chick Chain.Appraisal: Alabama 4-H Poultry Judging ContestWhen: Spring through fall

4-H Poultry Barbecue Who: Juniors & SeniorsWhat: Cooking, grilling safety, food safety, and presentation skills; winning Senior II individual to attend and represent Alabama at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in the Chicken Barbecue Contest. Winning Senior I individual will do the same, but in the Turkey Barbecue National Conference.Eligibility: Team members may have participated in one or more of the following 4-H poultry programs: 4-H Poultry Barbecue at Competitive Events Day, 4-H Meat Pen or Chef 4-H (grilled poultry dish).Appraisal: Alabama 4-H Chicken Cue Contest at Competitive Events DayWhen: Summer through Fall

4-H Egg Preparation Demonstration Who: Juniors & SeniorsWhat: Cooking demonstration highlighting an egg dish and discussion of egg facts. Winning individual to attend and represent Alabama at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference.Eligibility: Team members may have participated in one or more of the following 4-H poultry programs: Chef 4-H (egg dish), 4-H Good Egg Flock, or 4-H Golden Egg ContestAppraisal: Chef 4-H Contest at Competitive Events DayWhen: Spring through fall
