In addition the opening of tlic annual dhristmns festival with a huge parade Friday cveninB, ne.tt •week, was announced last niglil by John Mclzo, chairman of the Icbtival program.
Elwood Scoblo and Robert Schir-Tiior, of the Christmas lighting committee, opened the lighting ceremony which llluminiJtcd the lights along Main St. and a special display on the town hall. The building front is decorated with a "pealing bell" actuated by a switch .which lends the illusion of a giant rod bell swinging to and (ro aiid/two largo lanterns'on cither
.side. :'"In addition, two evergreens planted in front of the town hall have been dressed with colored lights. On the block of buildings lo the east, long streamers of laurel decorate the store fronts.
Tlie present lights, consisting of more than two dozen cross arrays, are p a n of a permanent stock of holiday equipment being built up by the local Chamber of Commerce. The decorations will be supplc-monted, with new material each year.

A letter inviting all local organizations and business establishments to lake part in the parade by sending delegates or entering a float has been mailed,out by the Chamber festival committee.. Interested persons are ' requested to contact Domenic Ferrara, parade marshal, at HO 7-3735.

Josepli Papugn, 'IS, of 87 Tyler St., was reported "resting ctjmfort-nbly" in New Haven hospilnl this morning after he was struck hy a car; at the Tbonipson Ave. - Tyler St. intersection at 9:45 last niglit. Attendants said his condition was not 'Serious.
Papugn received compound fractures of the right log and riclit arm when he Was struck by a car driven by Ferdinand N. Ahiberg, 16, of 83 Kensington St., New Haven. Young Ahilicrg, who was driving a. car owned l)y his mother, Mrs. Evelyn Alilborg, was charged with violation of motor vehicle laws, and reiearicd without bond.
Ahiberg told Officer Walter Marlus that Papugn suddenly crossed the street before his car, which was moving south on Thompson St. just as a bus began pulling away from tlie curb at that point.
