Seek and you shall find…
My wife and I were looking at the Christmas story and all those involved. We began discussing the idea of what each one was seeking. Mary and Joseph of course had the advantage of knowing this was the promised event. They were given inside information, but what about the other players in this drama? There was a town filled to capacity and more with travelers coming to register and pay their taxes. Why didn’t they notice the grand event? What were they seeking? This was an entire group of people who were of the lineage of King David, Jewish by birth and practice, each aware of the promise of a Messiah, but they were only seeking to perform a duty and go home. Sadly, that is exactly what they found. The Wisemen of the East were in search of a King and after much travel, that is exactly what they found. They missed the bigger picture of him being the Savior of the World. The shepherds seemed to be the only ones who were not too busy or so focused on their own query to be open to the possibilities around them. They were told to go find the Messiah in the town of Bethlehem and that is exactly what they did. The Wisemen left and went in search of Him who was promised. They were seeking their Messiah. Perhaps that is why Jesus had to be born in a stable, so His first visitors would feel welcomed and know this was the Messiah for ALL mankind.
Jesus said, “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart”
Jeremiah 29:11-13 NKJV
What are you seeking?
Items needed! How can YOU help?
- Legos for Celebrate Christmas 2018 (If you frequent yard sales or auctions, please see what you can find. We need regular bricks, not Duplo or primo.)
- Wooden thread spools (They can be empty or have thread on them; any size is ok.)
- Old CDs
- Old wood (such as from a barn)
- Personal size toiletries for travel (Items that you do not need. I deliver them to the Ronald McDonald house three-four times a year.)
Our regular Wednesday night schedule resumes on January 3. We welcome regular attenders to choirs and mission education. If you have been considering involving your family on Wednesday nights, this is a great time to jump in. There’s something for all ages, and a delicious meal with friends beginning at 4:45 pm.
Remember the Missions Fair is on Sunday morning, January 7 during the Sunday School hour. Preschoolers will follow their regular schedule. Children in grades 1-6 will be in their classes from 9:45-10:15 am, then visit the missions fair. A scavenger hunt sheet will help guide their experience. Parents will pick up children in the CLC.
Note the date of May 18-20, 2018 for the Deep Impact Kids family mission trip in Red Springs, NC. Children in grades 1-6 and their families can experience missions together and learn more about serving others by serving God. Indicate your interest at the Missions Fair and attend the information meeting that evening at 5:45 pm in room 309.

YEAR-END CONTRIBUTIONS
Praise God for our faithful congregation, who have
been so generous throughout the year in giving of your
time, talents, and financial resources to the Lord’s
work at First Baptist. With 2017 quickly coming to a
close, and you prayerfully consider your year-end
offerings to the Lord, please remember the following:
The best way to ensure that your gift is credited to
2017, if that is your desire, is to either bring it
personally to the church office on or before Friday,
December 29, 2017 at 5:00 pm, drop it in the offering
plate on Sunday, December 31, 2017 or mail it with a
postmark no later than December 31, 2017.
Another way to give is through the donation of stock.
From a tax perspective, it can be advantageous to give
stock that has appreciated since its purchase. Consult
with your tax advisor, but you may be able to get a
charitable donation for the current market value of the
stock without incurring the cost of paying capital gains
on the appreciation. If you are contemplating a stock
gift, please contact the church as soon as possible so
that we can arrange for the transfer in a timely
manner.
Thank you again for your continued faithfulness. Your
2017 annual giving statements will be mailed out no
later than the end of January, 2018 reflecting all of
your 2017 gifts.
Also, please remember to pick up your 2018 giving
envelopes at your convenience. They are on the tables
outside the sanctuary. Thank you.
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, visits, cards and flowers during the last sixteen months of illness and passing of Martha Brown. First Baptist Church family has been a continued blessing.
The family of Martha Brown
Thank you for the beautiful flowers and support during the loss of my wife, Michelle Sanders.
Doug & Kayla Sanders
Thank you for the prayers, cards, and concern during the loss of my sister. It was especially meaningful that several people made the trip to the memorial service. Please continue to pray for Doug, Kayla and my mother with the changes this brings into their daily lives. May God bless you for being a blessing to my family.
Michael & Karen Bentley
Thank you to all who volunteered in bringing food or helping at the AHS Christmas luncheon. The staff was very appreciative. Having a willing church family support this ministry was heart warming as this was the first event I helped coordinate for our partnership.
