June 6, 2016 Dear Friends: It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone as Partnership with Children hosts its Annual Spring Gala. Education is a gift that opens doors, instills confidence, and inspires dreams. My administration is committed to ensuring that all our students, no matter their background or the borough they call home, have the opportunity to learn and grow by expanding pre-kindergarten, afterschool, and arts education programs, creating community and renewal schools, and launching new dual language programs. With its mission to help at-risk students strengthen their emotional, social, and academic skills, Partnership with Children is a valuable ally in our efforts. Working with teachers and schools across the city, this organization offers counseling programs, leadership activities, and conflict resolution and bullying prevention training, while also engaging parents and encouraging them to become more involved in their child’s education. I join tonight in applauding Partnership with Children and its staff for their dedication to our city’s young people and for all they do to build a stronger, more equitable tomorrow where all New Yorkers can rise together. On behalf of our great city, congratulations to this year’s honorees. I offer my best wishes for a wonderful evening and continued success. Sincerely, Bill de Blasio Mayor

LEADERSHIP AWARDJune 6, 2016
Dear Friends,
It gives me such pleasure to welcome you to Partnership with Children’s 2016 Spring
Gala and to share with you this organization’s incredible work. Partnership with Children
is on the front lines, fighting against the harmful impacts of poverty by providing
critical support services to public school children across New York City. I couldn’t be
more proud to be a part of their efforts. And with your generous support, together,
we are transforming schools into safe, supportive learning environments where all
children can thrive.
Tonight we are honoring five outstanding individuals deeply committed to service and
leadership, who are helping children and communities nationwide. They include Andy
Saperstein, Co-Head of Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley; David Cohen, President,
MAGNA GLOBAL; KPJR Films Director and Producer, James Redford; KPJR Films Producer,
Karen Pritzker; and Dr. Kelly Posner Gerstenhaber, Director of The Center for Suicide
Risk Assessment and The Lighthouse Project at Columbia University. They inspire us all.
I’d also like to acknowledge the talented and tireless staff at Partnership with Children,
who never give up on the young people they serve; and my fellow board members, all of
whom care sincerely and give so generously of their time and expertise.
We are delighted that you are with us to celebrate Partnership with Children’s many
achievements this year. I encourage you to get more involved with us throughout the
year and learn about the impact we’re having on children and schools. Thank you so
much for standing with us and for leading us to another successful Spring Gala!
With deep appreciation,
Linda Boff Gala Chair

DR. KELLY POSNER GERSTENHABER Director of The Center for Suicide Risk Assessment and The Lighthouse Project, Columbia University
Dr. Kelly Posner Gerstenhaber is a visionary scientist,
humanitarian, and philanthropist with a long-standing
commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of children.
Dr. Posner Gerstenhaber’s focus on preventing death from
suicide and reducing the stigma of mental illness has
brought relief to those suffering in silence around the world.
Her FDA commissioned methods were described by
The New York Times in a front page article as “one of
the most profound changes of the past 16 years.” Locally,
Dr. Posner Gerstenhaber’s work has reached thousands of school children, with her method
rolled out in every New York City public school. In Israel, every schoolteacher has her
questions, and the Israeli National Suicide Prevention Council says that her work “is not
only saving millions of lives but in Israel is literally changing the way we live our lives.”
Jim Shelton, Former Deputy Education Secretary of the United States Department of
Education, said that “Dr. Posner’s work has the potential to keep the 64 million children
in our schools.”
Through her advocacy, Dr. Posner Gerstenhaber has changed local, national and
international policy. She gave an invited address to the leaders of the European Union,

was named the most Distinguished Alumna of her graduate school at Yeshiva University
in the past 50 years, and received the New York State Suicide Prevention Award. As an
international spokesperson on suicide and depression, she has made appearances on
many global media forums from CNN to World News Tonight. A long-standing advocate
of education reform, Dr. Posner Gerstenhaber is the Founding Chairman of the Board
of Turnaround for Children and founded The Speyer Legacy School, the first school for
accelerated learners with a particular focus on the low-income high-achieving student.
For her work in both of these innovative educational initiatives, she was named “Education

Partnership with Children works in high-poverty
New York City public schools to empower student
success in school and in life.
Our social workers provide targeted counseling for
students and families, school-wide strategies for
faculty and staff, and community school leadership.
Serving 11,000 students in 36 schools, our program
transforms schools into safe, supportive learning
environments. It increases attendance, decreases
dropout rates, and improves academic performance
for even the hardest-to-reach students.
