2 Armadale Arts Festival 2016
Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JPWelcome to the inaugural Armadale Arts Festival 2016.
The City is very proud to be hosting this unique community festival which celebrates art in its many forms and provides a platform to develop and inspire more creative community activities now and into the future.
I believe one of the indicators of a thriving community is evidence of creative expression.
Whether it’s painting, photography, music, dance, sculpture, performance or something else, the importance of arts and creative activities to the development and wellbeing of individuals and communities can never be underestimated.
Our local artists and arts groups cut across divides of class, ethnicity, generation, gender and culture.
There are thriving groups in both our urban and rural regions, characterised only by their diversity. They all play a key role in sustaining and promoting our community identity.
Art brings our community closer together.
It helps us to explore and interpret our stories and in turn, share discoveries and learn more about how other people see the world.
It is also a way of maintaining cultural heritage, connecting different generations, and sharing that heritage with others.
And finally, the arts remind us of our power to innovate.
It shows us how imagination is transformed into creation and teaches us how to think beyond boundaries and overcome obstacles.
Art is a critical ingredient to forward-thinking change, where inherent concepts taught by the arts lead to significant progress in every arena of life from medicine to technology to law.
I hope you enjoy the full program of activities throughout the Armadale Arts Festival.
Please take your time to attend as many events as you can because you’ll find that the people participating in and shaping the two-week Festival are perhaps the truest and most positive reflection of our community you’re likely to receive.
The Mayors Welcome
