Special Highlight
Meet Charles Gray. I first met Charles as a 6th grader at Carver. Quiet and unassuming, Charles came to our Carver book clubs religiously. Quite honestly, I was never sure if Charles actually read the books or came for the fabulous book club food.
Now in ninth grade, Charles has really surprised me this year. SCll a quiet young man, as a ninth grader Charles is definitely a reader. Charles selected the Virals book as his 7Reads book and came to the Freshman Academy ready to read the remaining 4 books in the series. Unfortunately, we were missing the series finale. Charles quietly and paCently came
daily to ask if our order of the final book had arrived. The book arrived the day before Thanksgiving, and Charles was able to have the book during the break. Upon our return on Monday, Charles brought the book back before school and said, "He needs to write more books." Asked why, he conCnued, "Because Tory's green eyes turned blue." We emailed the author who sent us Advance Reader Copies of the follow-‐up short story collecCon for readers who have to know what happens!!!
Long story short, Charles and others like him are why 7Reads is so cool. Students who may otherwise not have access to authors or perhaps even an avid interest in reading may connect with authors and books in a new and meaningful way -‐ a way that truly changes lives and promotes lifelong love of reading and learning.
So excited about changes to 7Reads in the coming year and the opportuniCes these changes will present to our students!!!
