President’s Message
I can’t believe that summer is over, school has begun, and
hopefully these ninety + degree days are almost gone. CRDA
has a wonderful Facebook page and everyone needs to take a
look at the wonderful projects we have completed. The mural
was especially meaningful to me as this was totally for the
benefit of someone else and not me. As artists, we have a won-
derful talent which can bless so many lives. I would love to
begin to share this with other schools, nursing homes or
places. Thank you Kathryn and Pepperidge Farm for allow-
ing us to participate. If anyone else has a suggestion for a
community project let me know. See you at our next meeting.

I enjoyed seeing everyone at the chapter meeting. I will be attending the Octo-
ber meeting and I will be bringing a container to start our Pennies for Paint-
ers. This is made up of just loose change from members at each meeting. The
President keeps the jug of money. When a member needs assistance paying
for a program or paying dues ( either chapter or national) or helping a mem-
ber attend a seminar the money will be there. The person just speaks to the
President about what they need and the person is NEVER revealed to anyone
except the President.
I would also like to see some new members who have a handicap and could
use our painting group as her new friends and enjoy being part of our chap-
ter. We, as a chapter, have a lot to offer someone who would be new to the
decorative painting world.
Paint,Paint and Paint Somemore!!!!!
Thanx,
toni

Message from Michelle -Seminar Chair
September: Everyone should have their pattern packets and the cutout surface - unless you
are using your own surface. Make sure you follow the PREPARATION instructions and are
ready to go. I do have one more cutout surface and a few pattern packets. If you would like
to do this on your own, let me know and I will make sure you have a packet - $8.00 and a
surface - $4.00. For those attending, Julie is bringing paint.
October: If you know someone who “doesn’t paint” but can color, this is the program for
them Kate Dowd is teaching her “Wild Woman” on SHRINK PLASTIC. Who knew? Sup-
plies to bring: Color pencils in many colors with a light, medium and dark in each color
group. Reds, pinks, roses, purples, blues, etc. If you do not have lots of Prisma color pen-
cils, don’t worry! Kate said she got a set of 72 pencils by Cra-Z-Art at WalMart - for $6.00
and they work just fine.
Scissors - to do details - manicure type - or fine points, a fine point permanent marker,
eraser, etc. If you have one: a heat gun, 1/4" hole punch, 1/8" hole punch. Kate said she is
bringing her 200 or so pencils to fill in what you don’t have. Class fee is $25.00 (which in-
cludes one kit) AND additional kits will be available for $10.00 each. Should be lots of fun.
Classroom seating is limited to 25, so get your reservations/fees in QUICK!

Ways and Means
We had a number of winners at the last meeting but Deanna Spence won the
Special Raffle, a beautiful painting donated by Michelle Mueller.
Remember to bring in your Fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving pieces for the
draw at our September meeting. Your choice of the fall season.
Painters Tip Corner
Tip # 1—Watch YouTube short painting video lessons. On your computer, type in any
painting subject you would like to learn, exp. pansies, glazing, roses and “voila” you
have FREEE INSTRUCTION!
Tip # 2—Large poster board from Walgreens makes for a great table protector while
you are painting. It is disposable but makes for a stable, unwrinkled, clean work space.
Tip # 3—For the greatest accuracy, ALWAYS cut tracing & transfer paper down to the
size or smaller than your painting surface. Papers hanging off the edges make for pat-
tern shifts and inaccuracy. Secure your patterns in 2 places.
Tip # 4– First time use Transfer paper should be wiped off with a soft paper towel to re-
move excess graphite .
Tip # 5– The Nabisco’s Newtons Fruit Thins plastic holder (inside the bag) makes for a
great double-well water container. Use one side for dirty water, the other for clean.
Tips are from the June 2013 PaintWorks issue
October is Society of Decorative Painters Month
One month to GO!
The Winter Haven Library is open for us to display our wonderful art in their large foyer glass
display area inside the library. This year we can accommodate larger pieces and stand them
upright.
Kathryn will discuss at our September meeting.

Ok, so this is how it works. When you buy your brushes from Scharff, you are purchasing
them at a reduced rate of 50% off retail prices. Our Chapter earns a 10% profit on each
order. Now how great is that!!! Your orders will be individually wrapped with an addi-
tional 50 cents added for shipping.
There’s no better time than now to get the brushes you need and want and earn your Chap-
ter a few extra dollars at the same time. There is no other way our members can get these
brushes at half price AND get them shipped!
QUALITY CUSTOM WOOD CUTTING
FOR THE DECORATIVE ARTIST DISCOUNT PRICES FOR CHAPTER MEMBERS
I can custom cut any wood item for you from any pattern.
If you don’t have a pattern, but have an idea, let me know and I can make it for you. All items can be made from solid Pine, Baltic Birch plywood or Ultra Light MDF board*. Any size 1/8” to 1-1/2”. Every wood item is free from knots and any defects.
Finished - Sanded - Ready to Paint or Stain
*Ultra Light MDF board is my recommendation because it has an ultra smooth surface, no knots or wood grain, does not warp, sands easily if needed and is less expensive than wood.
