In 1896, a few sailors dropped into the chilly
waters of the bay of Zea off the coast of Greece, to complete a swim of 100m back to shore. From this start swimming is the most popular

Strokes
• Four different strokes are featured in the Olympics they are breastroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle
• Freestyle technically mean any stroke that the swimmer chooses
• In backstroke and freestyle the swimmer may touch with any part of their body

The pool
• in 1908 The pool was a giant size of 100m long, which is four laps at Fulham pools.
• Now the Olympic swimming pool is 50m long, which is two laps of Fulham pools.
• Early in Olympics they swam in the sea, rivers and lakes

Relays!!
• There is 200m relays, 400m relays, 800m relays.
• Swimmers are not aloud to leave the blocks till 0.03 seconds before the other swimmer touches
• The medley relay is backstroke then breastroke then butterfly then freestyle
