Family Housing Advisory Services, Inc.
Dear Friend of FHAS:
We are pleased to share with you our 2009 Annual Report. Throughout our 42-year history, FHAS has embraced the powerful weapons of education and advo-cacy as key to empowering people, stabilizing families, increasing housing and financial stability, improving quality of life, and advancing the prosperity of the community
Our homelessness prevention and foreclosure intervention services (click here for client testimonial) have received the support of stimulus funds that enhance and support our mission, values and work to positively impact clients during this diffi-cult economic time. Our mission is to improve the quality of life by helping people achieve housing and financial stability through education and advocacy. Last year FHAS served 18,000 individuals and 11,000 households equipping clients with quality housing and financial counseling services.
This has been a tremendous year for FHAS. We added the largest poverty-re-duction program in the United States-the Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition as a program of FHAS. Our collaborative work with the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation resulted in the addition of a matched-savings IDA Program for youths aging out of foster care. We entered our second year of the Smart Change introductory savings program for women, and we began distributing Girl Scout-provided “birthday baskets” and “pamper-me kits” for hard-working moms.
Comprehensively, our work helps families:
Prevent homelessness
Become educated homebuyers and homeowners
Understand their foreclosure prevention options
Become financially-wise consumers
Access affordable mortgage loans (subsidiary Omaha 100, Inc.)
Combat housing discrimination
Reduce poverty
While it is our privilege to provide much-needed services, there is still much work to be done. FHAS continues and renews our commitment to positively change our community one family, and one household at a time.
Thank you and enjoy our 2009 Annual Report.
