Our soil profiles (similar to the above drinks) in the putting greens all have varying colors, structure and particle sizes
No two greens perform, drain, freeze, thaw the same as the other
Each individual green has varying drainage rates, freeze rates, thaw rates

#18 on the Outer 18 at 8:45 a.m., 1/25/2015

• Over the remainder of the day, soil conditions on our putting greens, including greens that have drainage, will thaw out and excess water will rise to the surface
• Due to oversaturation throughout the golf course, water has no where to drain, so its only avenue is moving up and out of the surface creating casual water
• This will create a serious thaw, resulting in soil conditions that are extremely susceptible to traffic/foot damage

This picture shows the actual foot print pattern of ONE foursome playing the hole like normal. Multiply this a couple times and you can see that when the ground is soft it
doesn’t take long to produce severe irreversible damage to a green

W H AT D O E S T H I S A L L M E A N ?
• We have received over 1.5” over the last five days with fluctuating temperatures and changing course conditions on a daily basis
• The golf course has not had a consistent period to either drain or freeze over, resulting in not only freeze/thaw but excessive moisture in the upper root zone
• Extreme weather conditions have created an extreme circumstance on our putting greens, tees, fairways, rough that requires preventative management and care
• Even at temperatures in the mid-40’s with no “visual” snow cover, casual water conditions on our greens is noticeable on every putting green

• This is a very extreme weather pattern, similar to when conditions in the summer are above 90-95 degrees with excessive moisture, we are going to implement preventative management and care to provide sustainable course conditions without inducing unnecessary stress
• When conditions permit, we will make sure to communicate and provide alternative options for our members - Inner 9 only, Outer 18 only, Original Back 9 (1-5, 12, 13, 17, 18) - we do not have that option right now
• Under completely frozen or completely thawed/dry soil conditions, golf will be permitted similar to previous programs
