12 PEBRERO 2017 IKA-6 LINGGO SA KARANIWANG PANAHON – TAON A BERDE
KARANIWANG PANAHON - A (Sirak 15:15-20; 1 Corinto 2: 6-10;
Mateo 5:20-22. 27-28.33-34.37)

PAKSA: SA ATING PAGSUNOD SA
KALOOBAN NG DIYOS NA HINDI
LAMANG TULAD NG MGA ESKRIBA AT
MGA PARISEO, TAYO AY
MAKAPAPASOK SA KAHARIAN NG
DIYOS.
Tayo ay makararating sa Kaharian ng
Diyos sa pamamagitan ng pagsunod sa
kanyang kalooban o sa kanyang utos.
Hindi tayo pinipilit ng Diyos na
makararating sa kanyang Kaharian.
Iyon ay kung gusto lamang natin. Sabi
Sirak, “Kung gusto mo, masusunod mo
ang utos ng Panginoon, ikaw ang
-2-
maibigan. Makapipili ka ng alinman sa
dalawa: buhay o kamatayan, ang
iyong mapili ang siya mong
tutunguhan.”
Malaya tayong mamili: ang hindi tayo
sumunod sa utos o kalooban ng
Panginoon at hindi maging tapat sa
kanya, dahil dito kakamtin natin ang
apoy, ang kamatayang walang
hanggan sa impiyerno; o ang sumunod
tayo sa utos o kalooban ng Panginoon
at maging tapat sa kanya, dahil dito
kakamtin natin ang tubig, ang buhay
na walang hanggan sa kaharian ng
Diyos.
Kaya, sa ating pagsunod sa utos o
kalooban ng Panginoon, tayo ay
makakapasok sa kaharian ng Diyos.
Subalit sinasabi sa Ebangelyo na hindi
lang basta‟t pagsunod sa utos o
kalooban ng Diyos para tayo
makapapasok sa Kaharian ng Diyos. Ito
ay pagsunod sa utos o kalooban ng
Diyos na hindi tulad lamang sa
pagsunod ng mga eskriba at mga
Pariseo. Sabi ng Panginoon sa
Ebanghelyo: “Sinasabi ko sa inyo: kung
ang pagsunod ninyo sa kalooban ng
Diyos ay tulad lamang ng pagsunod ng
mga eskriba at mga Pariseo, hindi
kayo makapapasok sa kaharian ng
Diyos.” Kaya‟t hindi lang basta‟t
pagsunod sa utos o kalooban ng Diyos
kundi „yon pagsunod sa utos o
kalooban ng Diyos na hindi tulad ng
pagsunod ng mga eskriba at mga
Pariseo.
ibang salita, walang ginagawang
masama ang kanilang mga kamay
subalit ang sama ng ginagawa ng
kanilang puso. Kaya, wala ngang
ginagawang pagpatay ang kanilang
mga kamay subalit ang sama namang
pagpatay ang ginagawa ng kanilang
puso dahil napopoot sila sa kanilang
kapatid. Kaya, wala ngang
ginagawang pakikiapid ang kanilang
mga kamay subalit ang sama namang
pakikiapid ang ginagawa ng kanilang
puso dahil may mahalay silang
-3-
pagnanasa sa isang babae na kitang-
kita sa kanilang mga tingin.
Kaya, wala ngang ginagawang
panunumpa ang kanilang mga kamay
sa kanilang pangangako sa Panginoon
subalit ang sama naman ang
ginagawa ng kanilang puso dahil hindi
nais talagang magdaragdag ng
panunumpa.Kapag tulad nito ang ating
pagsunod sa utos o kalooban ng Diyos,
tiyak na hindi tayo makapapasok sa
Kaharian ng Diyos.
Kaya, huwag nating tularan ang mga
eskriba at Pariseo sa kanila pagsunod
sa utos o kalooban ng Diyos. Bagkus
gawin natin ang ating pagsunod na
wala ngang ginagawang masama sa
panlabas at wala rin ginagawang
masama sa panloob. Sa ibang salita,
walang ginagawang masama ang
ating mga kamay at walang
ginagawang masama ating puso.
Kung ganito ang ating ginagawa, tayo
nga ay mga tunay na pag-ibig sa
Diyos. Mahirap subalit patuloy nating
bandang huli.
MGA TANONG PARA SA BAHAGINAN:
1. Ano po ba ang tingin ko sa
pagsunod sa utos ng Diyos: pabigat sa
buhay o pagpapakita ng pag-ibig sa
Diyos?
2. Mayroon bang pagkakataon na
napilitan lamang ako na sumunod sa
utos ng Diyos? Magbigay po ng
kongkretong halimbawa hango sa
tunay na pangyayari sa buhay.
3. Mayroon bang pagkakataon na may
utos ng Diyos na sinunod ko sa
panlabas pero hindi sa panloob?
Magbigay po ng kongkretong
halimbawa hango sa tunay na
pangyayari sa buhay.

JANUARY 28, 2017 – BEC TIBAGAN
STREET MASS
Bilang pagsalubong sa Taong 2017,
ang BEC Tibagan ay nagdaos ng Street
Mass noong ika-28 ng Enero sa ganap
na alas-6:00 ng gabi sa Villamor Street.
Ang banal na misa ay pinangunahan ni
Fr. Raul Cuyag.
He gave an encouraging and
challenging invitation to the
parishioners who failed to go to mass
even once a week. He stressed that as
members of a blessed, loving family,
and community of God, we should not
forget to give thanks to Him for all the
-4-
graces bestowed upon us. We may all
have trials, sufferings, and difficulties,
but we can bear it all if we have Jesus
in our lives. Hindi niya tayo
pababayaan. Sa halip, mapapalad
tayo dahil akay tayo at pinatibay ng
Diyos sa ating paglalakbay sa
mundong ibabaw.
Sinundan
ang misa ng isang simpleng merienda
na masayang pinagsaluhan ng lahat.
To God be the glory!

FEBRUARY 01, 2017 – FIRST
WEDNESDAY MASS SA SALAPAN
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Ang monthly First Wednesday Mass ay
ginanap muli sa Salapan Elementary
School noong February 1, 2017.
Dinaluhan ng mga mag-aaral ng
Grade 3, 4 at 6 ang banal na misa, na
pinamunuan ng ating kura paroko, Rev.
Msgr. Nestor Cerbo.
Sa kanyang homiliya, tinanong ni Msgr.
Cerbo ang mga bata, kung tulad ni
Hesus ay nakaranas na ba sila na
inayawan o ma-reject? May mga
batang sumagot ng “opo,” sila daw po
ay narereject ng kapwa mag-aaral.
Pinaalalahanan ni Msgr. Cerbo ang
mga bata na parating magpakabait,
mahalin ang kapwa, mag-aral at
sundin ang mga utos ng Diyos.
Nakakaranas man ng mga pang-aapi,
pang- aalipusta ay dapat pa rin nating
suklian ng kabutihan ang mga
gumagawa sa atin ng di maganda.
Dapat silang ipanalangin sa Panginoon
upang bigyan sila ng pusong tigib sa
pagmamahal para sa Diyos at sa
kapwa.

FEBRUARY 02, 2017 – 3RD TRUSTEES
MEETING OF ALAY KAY SAN JUAN
FOUNDATION, INC.
The Board of Trustees met for the third
time last February 2, 2017 in the office of
Mayor Guia Gomez. In attendance,
aside from the foundation‟s ever
gracious host Mayor Guia, were Interim
President Gerry Ozaeta, Msgr. Nestor
Cerbo, Mr. Raffy Villavicencio , Mr.
Virgilio Reambillo in behalf of Mrs.
Noemi Saludo, Mr. Renel Macapagal in
behalf of his father Dindo Macapagal,
Mrs. Charo Yu, Mrs. Lily Lim, Mrs. Mary
Pacheco, Mr. Vicente Fernandez, and
Interim Secretary Bebat Nabong.
-5-
The board agreed that it is crucial that
meetings be held monthly during the
planning up to early to mid stages of
construction to ensure that everything
works out right. The schedule agreed
upon by the group is every 1st Thursday
of the month. With regards to the
request of Mayor Guia to prioritize
church makeover, Msgr. Cerbo relayed
the comments from the Architect that
this is not practical because the dirt
and dust produced during the
construction of the Parish Center will
filter or spread through the church.
Hence, church refurbishing will have to
be done after the completion of all the
other phases.
The trustees decided on the following
Fundraising Action Plan for the year:
1. Solicitation letters to corporate
accounts. Mayor Guia requested all
trustees to submit a list of all possible
donors who they think can contribute
generously to our development project.
2. Kick-off concert in our parish on
June 3, 2017, vigil of Pentecost. Trustee
Charo Yu will provide her talents free of
charge. She will also handle the
production side.
3. Major concert at the Arena on the
last quarter of the year, preferably an
Advent Concert.
Meanwhile, Bebat Nabong announced
that the Ministry of Lectors and
Commentators, in an effort to contribute
to the parish development, will be
holding a movie premier of the
blockbuster movie Beauty and the
Beast on March 16, first day of
screening. She appealed for support
from the trustees who readily assured
her of their assistance.
FEBRUARY 03, 2017 – SJBP
COMMEMORATES THE MEMORY OF ST.
BLAISE
Yearly on February 13, SJBP celebrates
the Memory of St. Blaise. During the
mass, parishioners were asked to line
up in the middle aisle for the Blessing of
Throats, wherein two candles are
blessed, held slightly open, and
pressed against the throat as the
blessing is being said
-6-
The legend of St. Blaise tells us that he
was born into a rich and noble family
who raised him as a Christian. He
became a bishop. Later, a new
persecution of Christians began. He
received a message from God to go
into the hills to escape persecution.
Hunters discovered a cave surrounded
by wild animals that were sick. Blaise
walked among them unafraid, curing
them of their illnesses. The
hunters recognized Blaise as a Bishop,
so they captured him to take him back
for trial. On the way back, he talked a
wolf into releasing a pig that belonged
to a poor woman. When Blaise was
sentenced to be starved to death, the
woman, in gratitude, sneaked into the
prison with food and candles. Finally,
the governor had Blaise killed.
Saint Blase is the patron of physicians,
sick cattle, wax- chandlers,
woolcombers, and of wild animals
because of his care for them and of
those with throat maladies. He is
invoked against afflictions of the throat.

FEBRUARY 03, 2017 – FIRST FRIDAY
MASS AT SJNHS
Once again, a First Friday Mass was
celebrated by Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo
last February 03, 2017 at 8 am at San
Juan National High School. It was
attended by Grade 9 section Sun and
Grade 10 section Jacinto together with
their respective teachers for the period.
Mrs. Arenas, one of the guidance
counselors was also present.
The Gospel for the day was from Mark
6:14-29, “The Death of John the Baptist.”
Herod was bothered because he
ordered to cut off the head of John the
Baptist. His conscience was most
bothered when he heard about Jesus
that he is John the Baptist alive again,
some said that he is the prophet Elijah
and some others said that he is one of
the old prophets long ago.
Msgr. Nestor also told a story about the
movie “Flat Liner” wherein a group of
medical students made a peculiar
experiment. Each one of them was
given the chance to experience a few
minutes of death before being revived.
All of them had the same experience
as they remember being shocked by
the faces of people whom they hurt. It
seemed that their hearts were pierced
and they were bothered by their
consciences.
After they were revived, they started to
make amends for the hurts they
inflicted on people. We should not only
be bothered by our consciences for the
hurts we did to other people but most
-7-
importantly, we make amends for the
hurtful actions we did to them. We
should do these before we die because
after death we cannot make amends
anymore. It is either purgatory or hell.
We are still lucky if we land in
purgatory.
The day was consecrated to the Sacred
Heart of Jesus. Msgr. Nestor added that
we should ask God‟s grace to be much
and humble like Jesus. Let us imitate
Jesus by doing good deeds to others
with the spirit of love and compassion.
This is one way we made amends for
the bad things we did to other people.
Dear Jesus, help us to become your
lips, hands and feet in all we say and
do.

FEBRUARY 03, 2017 –
“PAGTATANGGOL SA BUHAY LABAN
SA PARUSANG KAMATAYAN,” TEMA
NG BANAL NA ORAS SA UNANG
BIYERNES NG PEBRERO
Ang buwanang Banal na Oras ay
ginanap muli nitong nakaraang unang
Biyernes, Pebrero 3, 2017, kasunod ng
misa ng ika-6:15 ng gabi. Ang
pagdiriwang ay pinangunahan ni Fr.
Raul Cuyag. Kaugnay ng nabanggit na
tema ng Banal na Oras, isang pastoral
-8-
letter mula sa Arsobispo ng Maynila,
Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle ang binasa
at ipinapakinig ni Fr. Raul sa mga
nagsidalo.
Ang pastoral letter na ito ay nag-
aanyaya sa ating mga
mananampalatayang Katoliko na
magnilay, manalangin, at kumilos
laban sa hinaharap na isyu ng ating
bansa ngayon – ang pagsulong sa
parusang kamatayan. Binibigyang diin
pangalagaan, at protektahan.
Naniniwala ang ating Simbahang
Katolika na may mga ibang
pamamaraan para masugpo ang
krimen sa ating bayan, at hindi ang
parusang kamatayan ang solusyon
dito. Sapagkat ang bawat taong
nagkakasala ay dapat mabigyan ng
pagkakataong makapagbago at
tanggapin muli si Hesus sa kanilang
buhay.
Sa huling bahagi ng pastoral letter,
hiniling ng Cardinal na tayo‟y patuloy
na magnilay at manalangin, at kumilos
para maipaabot sa ating kongreso ang
ating pagtutol sa pagsulong ng
parusang kamatayan.
FEBRUARY 04, 2017 – FIRST SATURDAY
DEVOTION AND DAWN PROCESSION
STARTS AT BEC BALONG-BATO
The monthly First Saturday Devotion to
the Blessed Mother took place again
last February 4, 2017. The dawn
procession started at exactly 5:00 AM
at F. Roman Street in BEC Balong-Bato.
Fr. Raul Cuyag accompanied the group
of devotees in the procession, while
they meditate on the joyful mysteries of
the holy rosary. Upon arrival at the
Parish, the group waited a while for the
start of the mass at 6:00 AM.
As practiced, there was anointing of
holy oil after the mass for all those who
attended. Msgr. Nestor assisted Fr. Raul
in the anointing.
The next First Saturday Devotion is on
March 4, 2017. Dawn procession will
start at BEC St. Joseph. Mama Mary,
through your intercession, please bring
preace to our families, to our country,
and to the whole world.

FEBRUARY 04, 2017 – BEC ISABELITA
CELL GROUP MEETING
The weekly BEC Isabelita cell group
meeting was held last February 4, 2017
at the Senior Citizen‟s Office in
Barangay Isabelita.
At exactly 4:00 PM, the members
started the singing of joyful and
adoration songs. Sis. Malou Evangelista
led the opening prayer, which was
followed immediately by the
proclamation of the 3 readings for the
5th Sunday in Ordinary Time, including
the Gospel from Matthew 5:13-16,
facilitated by Bro. Naning Dela Peña.
Jesus used ordinary images such as the
salt and light to convey the
extraordinary truth that transforms our
minds, hearts, and lives. When we allow
the world, sin, and Satan to corrupt us,
we lose our saltiness. The Lord wants us
to preserve our saltines through virtuous
living and rejection of sin, not only for
our own sake, but also for the sake of
others.
Light shines for all to see God‟s grace –
not only to illumine the darkness in our
lives, but also to fill us with spiritual light,
joy, and peace.
There was a guide question
given: “Looking at your own life now,
can you say that you are the salt and
light in your family, workplaces, and in
your community?” Many participated in
sharing their experience in this topic of
salt of the eartg, light of the world.
The meeting ended around 5:30 PM,
with a closing prayer led by Bro. Naning
Dela Peña.

FEBRUARY 04, 2017 – BEC BATIS STREET
MASS
nina Bro. Boy Turingan at Sis Arah Go
ang pagdiriwang sa kanilang pag-awit.
Ang pagiging ilaw at asin sa pang-
araw-araw na buhay ang hamon ng
homiliya ni Fr. Raul sa mga
mananampalataya, lalung lalo na sa
panahong ito, na ang mga tao ay
-10-
abalang-abala sa mga gawaing
makamundo.
kanilang pagmamahal at paglilingkod
sa kanilang kapwa.

FEBRUARY 05, 2017 – PAGPUPULONG
NG MGA APOSTOLADO PARA SA
BUWAN NG PEBRERO
Ang buwanang pagpupulong ng
Apostolado ng Panalangin (AP) ay
ginanap noong Pebrero 5, 2017 at
pinamunuan ng aming Pangulo, Sister
Weng Serrano. Sinimulan niya ang
pulong sa pagbabasa ng Panimulang
Panalangin na sinabayan ng mga
miyembro, at Pag-aalay sa Araw-Araw
para sa sumusunod na intensiyon ng
Papa at ang kasunod na
komentaryong pastoral:
INTENSIYON NG PAPA: PAG-ALO SA
MGA NAGDADALAMHATI
“Upang maramdaman ng lahat ng
mga nagdadalamhati, lalo na ang mga
dukha, refugee at mga nasa laylayan
ng lipunan, ang pagtanggap at pag-
alo ng ating mga pamayanan.”
KOMENTARYONG PASTORAL
Sa isang prayer vigil sa Vaticano noong
Mayo 5, 2016, kinausap ni Pope Francis
ang mga umiiyak at nahahabag, na
hindi sila nag-iisa sa kanilang
paghihirap. Ito ay pagkatapos niyang
marinig ang mga testimonya ng mga
nahihirapan. Kasama ito sa programa
ng Hubileyo ng Awa. Idiniin ni Pope
Francis na naranasan rin ni Hesus ang
umiyak sa pagkamatay ng minamahal.
Noong namatay si Lazarus na kaibigan
ni Hesus, tumangis rin si Hesus noong
nakitang tumatangis si Maria.
TUGON SA MGA ADHIKAIN NG SANTO
PAPA
Cionnie Sevilla.

FEBRUARY 05, 2017 – CHILDREN‟S
CATECHESIS SA BEC SALAPAN
Amin pong isinagawa ang ang aming
Children‟s Catechesis noong unang
linggo ng buwan, February 05, 2017 sa
ganap na alas-kwatro ng hapon dito sa
aming chapel, Our Lady of the
Assumption, BEC Salapan. Ito po ay
dinaluhan ng labindalawang (12) bata
sa pamumuno ng ating butihin at
matiyagang umaagapay na katekista
na si Sis. Catchy Ligunas.
iyon.
Maraming salamat kay Sis. Catchy sa
pagbibigay ng malinaw na paliwanag
sa mga bata, at ito ay isa na ring
paraan para mas lalo pang lumago
ang kanilang kaalaman at maibahagi
na rin nila ito sa iba.
Ang susunod na Children‟s Catechesis
sa aming chapel ay sa ikatlong linggo
ng buwan, February 19, 2017.

POPE FRANCIS: EACH LIFE IS SACRED. ABANDON NO ONE.
VATICAN, Feb. 5, 2017– On Sunday Pope
Francis stressed the sanctity of life and
encouraged Christians to fulfill Jesus Christ‟s
-18-
command to be salt of the earth and light of
the world.
“May no one be left alone and may love
defend the sense of life,” Pope Francis said in
his Angelus remarks Feb. 5 to thousands
gathered in St. Peter‟s Square.
He cited the words of Mother Teresa of
Calcutta: “Life is beauty, admire it. Life is life,
fight for it.”
“Each life is sacred,” Pope Francis continued.
“Let‟s pray together for those children who are
in danger of interruption of pregnancy and for
those who are nearing the end of life.”
The Pope linked his comments to the Italian
observance of the Day for Life, which fell on
Sunday.
He also reflected on the Sunday gospel
readings, in which Jesus tells his disciples to
be salt and light in the world.
“We Christians are recognizable as true
disciples of Christ in our actions,” he said.
“Thanks to the light of faith, the gift that we
have received, we have the duty and the
responsibility not to keep it to ourselves as if it
were our property, but to allow it to shine in
the world and give it to others through works
of charity.”
“The world is much in need of the light of the
Gospel that transforms, heals and gives
salvation to him who embraces it,” he
continued. “Jesus invites us to be a reflection
of his light, through the witness of good
works.”
“We are the salt of the earth,” the Pope said.
“The mission of Christians in society is that of
giving „flavor‟ to life with the faith and the love
that Christ has given us,” he said,
encouraging Christians to reject “the polluting
germs of selfishness, envy and gossip.”
“These germs ruin the texture of our
communities that must be places of welcome,
solidarity and reconciliation,” Pope Francis
warned. “To fulfill this mission, it is necessary
to be free from the corrupting degeneration of
worldly influences that are contrary to Christ
and to the Gospel.”
He asked the faithful not to let their guard
down. Rather, they should seek to purify
themselves continuously and regenerate the
spirit of the gospel each day. (CNA/EWTN

BISHOPS WARN VS BEING ‘SILENT ACCOMPLICE’ TO KILLINGS
MANILA, Feb. 5, 2017– Catholic bishops called
on the faithful to speak out against summary
killings, saying that silence makes them an
„accomplice‟ in the rising death toll of the war on
drugs.
The Church leaders found disturbing the lack of
strong rejection by many Filipinos of the daily
killings in the country.
“To consent and to keep silent in front of evil is
to be an accomplice to it,” the bishops said in
a pastoral letter read in all Masses on Sunday.
“Let us not allow fear to reign and keep us
silent.”
-19-
It‟s the same thing, they said, that if people
neglect the drug pushers and users “we have
become part of the drug problem.”
“If we consent or allow the killing of suspected
drug addicts, we shall also be responsible for
their deaths,” they said.
President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly
denied that his administration is behind the
extrajudicial killings in the country.
In several occasions, he also launched profanity-
laced tirades against the bishops and human
rights groups for criticizing his bloody war on
drugs that claimed over 7,000 lives in six
months.
Acknowledging their own shortcomings, the
bishops said they will continue to speak “against
evil” in a country “shrouded in the darkness of
vice and death.”
“We will do this even if it will bring persecution
upon us because we are all brothers and sisters
responsible for each other,” they said.
The pastoral letter came barely a week after the
bishops from across the country gathered in
Manila for their biannual plenary assembly.
‘Reign of terror’
While they agree that the narcotics trade needs
to be stopped, they reiterated that killing
suspected drug pushers and users and not
giving them due process is not the solution to
the problem.
The prelates said they are concerned not only
for those who have been killed but also about
the situation of the victims‟ families whose lives
“have only become worse.”
“An additional cause of concern is the reign of
terror in many places of the poor. Many are
killed not because of drugs. Those who kill them
are not brought to account,” they said.
Except for self-defense, the prelates said killing
is a “grave sin” as to push illegal drugs.
“We cannot correct a wrong by doing another
wrong. A good purpose is not a justification for
using evil means. It is good to remove the drug
problem, but to kill in order to achieve this is also
wrong,” they added.
Poverty, corruption
The Church leaders also called on the
government to get to the bottom of the drug
problem and criminality–poverty and corruption.
“We must also give priority to reforming rogue
policemen and corrupt judges. The excessively
slow adjudication of court cases is one big
reason for the spread of criminality,” according
to them.
Without naming Durerte in their letter, the
bishops urged “elected politicians to serve the
common good of the people and not their own
interests”.
“We must all work together to solve the drug
problem and work for the rehabilitation of drug
addicts,” they said.(Roy Lagarde/CBCPNews)
