0 Abstract
The Dissemination and Communication Plan is prepared on the basis of the general description of the dissemination & communication strategy (Annex I of the Grant Agreement, Part B, chapter 1.3.1), the specific Tasks described in the Work plan Table WP7 of Annex I “Description of Work” of the Grant Agreement and the rules governing in the Consortium Agreement signed by the partners.
Acting as a guide for partners across the project, this document sets out the strategy and tools to be implemented for the project’s dissemination and communication activities. It represents the third and final version of the Dissemination and Communication Plan where some strategies and actions are fine-‐tuned for Months 30-‐48. The results of the D&C activities from Months 1-‐30 are presented and their impact is assessed. The deliverable will be subject to revision during the remainder of the project in order to fine tune the objectives and include potential new tools which may appear during the lifetime of the project. The D&C plan will be continuously updated as the BRICKER project goes on.
A final revision will be produced in M48. This and previous revisions are linked to a milestone, due in Phase 1 (Set up of project management, governance structure, dissemination and communication launch), Phase 3 (Technology definition and development, design of active and passive system, dissemination and communication), Phase 5 (Systems installed, exploitation and replication plans, communication and dissemination), and Phase 8 (Final reports, energy performance assessment). The revisions will be documented in this Deliverable D7.30 and also in D7.40.
This third version of Dissemination and Communication Plan is divided into three sections: D&C Strategy, Implementation and Results. In chapter 2 the D&C Strategy sets out the contents, the general framework, the targets, the channels and the responsibilities. Chapter 3 deals with the implementation. It contains operative descriptions and guidelines regarding key messages; visual identity and branding; conditions for ensuring proper dissemination of the generated knowledge related to confidentiality, publication and use of the knowledge; the stakeholder groups and interactions; the D&C channels; the roles and responsabilities of the partners as well as the timeline for M30-‐M48. Chapter 4 is dedicated to results. These are reported in tabular formats for regarding the various channels used.
The Annex contains guidelines for using the logo as well the templates for tracking the dissemination activities directly performed by the consortium partners and to have all information for the final report ready:

1 Introduction
The BRICKER D&C Plan contains the main strategic and operative guidelines that shall govern the overall communication strategy. It constitutes the core document outlining the activities on the basis of projects dissemination and communication. It develops a detailed and harmonized dissemination and communication strategy including key messages, visual identity, reporting templates, management of stakeholders’ databases, tools and targets, events and conferences, and the implementation of the strategy.
We wish to underline that the BRICKER D&C strategy will evolve as the project advances. In the initial phases, the strategy has focused on raising awareness about BRICKER and setting the general framework for dissemination and communication. As the project progresses and achieves results, this framework unfolds and diversifies into very targeted actions towards specific audiences, including interactions with potential users and “clients” of the BRICKER concept and technologies.
The BRICKER partners play a key role in implementing the strategy as they are the most important ambassadors and multipliers for disseminating and communicating the BRICKER messages, achievements and results. In this process, the D&C Secretariat assists and supports the BRICKER partners by providing materials, information, guidelines, advice and by coordinating their outreach actions.
The BRICKER D&C Plan is divided into three main sections:
• The BRICKER dissemination and communication strategy • The actions and measures for implementation and the timeline. • The outreach results achieved during the previous project period (i.e. M1-‐M30 in this
report).
The plan is being deployed and updated on an annual basis during the project life and beyond. In each revision, the activities of the previous plan are assessed and those for the coming period are outlined.
The dates for the publication of the revised D&C Plan are M18, M30 and of the final version M48. Each version is linked to a milestone, Phase 1 (Set up of project management, governance structure, dissemination and communication launch), Phase 3 (Technology definition and development, design of active and passive system, dissemination and communication), Phase 5 (Systems installed, exploitation and replication plans, communication and dissemination), and Phase 8 (Energy performance assessment Final reports).

2 Dissemination and Communication Strategy
2.1 Objectives
BRICKER aims at a scalable, replicable, high energy efficient, zero emissions and cost effective SYSTEM to refurbish existing public-‐owned non-‐residential buildings to achieve at least 50% energy consumption reduction. By demonstrating and disseminating an open and easily replicable strategy for designing, constructing, and managing renovation projects for achieving energy reduction in public buildings, the project aims at transferring knowledge in a way conducive to leveraging replicability. In this respect BRICKER will adopt an ambitious D& C policy drawing on a vast array of means ensuring a multi-‐channel approach. This will enable the project to reach out to the broad set of stakeholders at all levels and disseminate the results of innovative, cost-‐effective and high performance renovation concepts and solutions to boost the quality of district renovation and enhance market uptake of low-‐energy building stock.
2.2 Communication contents: Key messages
The D&C activities are designed to convey project information at various levels. This information includes the key messages that all communication needs to refer to in some way, the identity of the project and all that it includes, and the deliverables set out under a brand.
What are key messages?
Within every story to tell, key messages are the messages the target audience will remember and react to. They keep the writing and materials and content on track with what BRICKER is trying to accomplish. Such messages should always come back to the key notions or concepts.
To be useful, key messages must be:
• few in number, usually no more than two or three • short and concise, generally no more than a sentence or two. • written down.
The following messages form a basis of BRICKER communication:
• Achieve greater energy efficiency in public owned building through smart retrofit – a concern for building owners, end-‐users and citizens alike.
• Replicate BRICKER solutions across Europe’s diverse public-‐owned building stock – architects, constructors as well as policy-‐makers and their constituents (citizens).

11 / 120
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Programme for research, technological development and demonstration
under grant agreement No 60907.
• Benefit from a holistic approach covering not only the latest building technologies but also our knowledge of legal and economic frameworks in order to cut energy demand in public buildings – designers and planners, promotors and investors.
• The BRICKER concept means better health, better comfort, better use of resources – end-‐users.
• Administrative decision-‐making processes for retrofitting publicly owned buildings takes time – a concern for public building owners and constructors/ engineers
These key messages centre on the core notions “Energy efficiency, System-‐methodology – model, replicability – adaptability, public owned buildings” and address all audiences to tell the story about BRICKER.
We have recently revised these message so that they “speak out” more to different stakeholder groups, each being call to action rather than a static statement. For the remainder of BRICKER, these messages will underpin our communication with particular emphasis on a) who the target stakeholder is, b) the medium used and c) the occasion (fair, seminar, meeting etc). The D&C Secretariat will assist the partners with conveying messages and message mapping.
2.3 Framework: visual identity, branding, rules for dissemination
Visual identity and branding It is important for BRICKER to possess a strong identity since it is a demonstration project whose prime objective is to foster replicability and market uptake.
A brand is the "name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's product distinct from those of other sellers”. BRICKER branding features the logo and a series of references to be mentioned on the different communication tools.
D7.30 Third version of the Dissemination and Communication Plan
12 / 120
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Programme for research, technological development and demonstration
under grant agreement No 60907.
The BRICKER consortium has selected the following logo:
The wall stands for the acronym BRICKER and the main topic of the project, renovation of public buildings. The three colours represent the core topics of BRICKER, i.e. the project itself (orange), the technologies deployed (blue) and the demo sites (green). Green is also the dominant colour of the web site.
BRICKER branding implies and involves the use of this logo along with acknowledgement of EU funding and the EU flag, and reference to BRICKER for all scientific publications and project dissemination. In this way, the project’s identity will be upheld on all occasions and communication will be coherent as a brand name.
Dissemination of results
In order to ensure proper dissemination of the generated knowledge rules related to confidentiality, publication and use of the knowledge would be implemented in line with the EC Open access obligations, with the conditions described out in CA and in Article 8.3 of the GA as well as on agreements between the partners regarding authorship of the publications.

2.4 Targets: Identification and classification of main audiences
It is important to inform and engage with the BRICKER stakeholders throughout the project in order to gain their support and anticipate their reaction to the project. The opinions of powerful stakeholders can help to shape the BRICKER project. Stakeholder engagement reinforces the benefits of the projects, enhances awareness and creates consensus. Ultimately it will guarantee the replication of the BRICKER concept and its technical solutions, and the market uptake of the results.
The BRICKER project targets different stakeholders that have been divided into three main target groups:
• Value chain stakeholders. • Controlling stakeholders. • Resources/knowledge stakeholders
This segmentation of the main targets is structured in a process view. The value chain stakeholders are more or less directly involved in industrial exploitation. They have a vested interest in the value chain formation as they decide to engage orders and finances to make use of or request BRICKER results.
The other two groups of stakeholders influence the value chain but are not part of the business decisions to use or not the BRICKER concept and results. Controlling stakeholders such as regulators and lobbyists as well as resources/knowledge stakeholders influence the value chain stakeholders for making decisions about BRICKER results.
The three main target groups will be further segmented into specific audiences2. The target audience will be addressed through different channels, and customised messages. Multiple approaches focusing on specific highlights and topics will be identified according to their requirements and areas of interest. For example, end-‐users and the general public will be addressed by easy-‐to-‐understand messages focusing on topics such as environmental issues and how to further cut energy consumption and costs. . Other stakeholders of the value chain will be more interested in the holistic implementation of specific technologies already existing on the market or newly developed solutions and in the results of monitoring at the demonstration sites. The interest of local authorities will be more focused on the return on their financial investments in energy efficient solutions and incentives to the local community as well as in the reduction of CO2 emissions to reach the EU energy directives targets and act as good examples.
The project dissemination activities aim at informing about the progress and achievements of the project and to highlight the benefits that might derive from the adoption of the best practices by other actors. Stakeholders are key players for the market uptake and the replicability of the BRICKER concepts.
2 For detailed segmentation and lists of stakeholders according to the approach described, see Section 3.4 below.

2.5 Dissemination & Communication means and channels
BRICKER draws on various channels for its communication and dissemination activities. These include the project’s website, newsletter, specific dissemination materials, an institutional video, publications in technical literature and dedicated journals, a best practice book, and participation in fairs, conferences and workshops.
The web site set up at the beginning of the project contains all the institutional information about the project, including documents and deliverables, and is be used as the entry point to the BRICKER work and it’s achievements for professionals and the general public. The website, managed by the D&C Secretariat, IMG Internet (youris.com third party) and by ACCIONA, also serves as the main interface to the BRICKER network. It provides specific content that is of interest for the various target groups. There are different features for guiding users.
A periodic e-‐Newsletter provides information on milestones and results achieved in the project on a six-‐monthly basis, with a first issue released in April 2014. It is available in English. Partners use their networks of contacts (scientific, industrial, professional, etc.) to reach the maximum number of stakeholders. Partners directly involved with local communities and stakeholders can translate a shorter version of the newsletter into their national language. The partners also have the possibility to publish the contents or part of the contents of the BRICKER e-‐Newsletter in their organization’s newsletters and report to the Secretariat as part of their dissemination activities supporting the promotion of BRICKER.
Besides traditional web instruments (e.g. the project website), the public aspect of web communication is approached by BRICKER. A series of articles and interviews around the project and related topics, written by professional journalists are hosted on the BRICKER website and the youris.com platform; and marketed to other platforms such as BuildUp, AlphaGalileo, Phys.org. The project identifies specific hot topics that can catch the public’s attention and make science and technology easy-‐to-‐understand for a non-‐expert audience.
Recently, BRICKER has set up its own account on the social web in the format of a company page. It is a light way to create a footprint on the social web and inform about its progress and events. We will propose common web 2.0 activities to the cluster fellow projects of BRICKER in order to achieve synergies for the topic “Energy-‐efficient renovation of public building stock” and share the running of these accounts.
Printed promotion material is needed for dissemination purposes. The project brochure will be produced at three different stages of the project: the first one at month 12 to inform the

stakeholder community of the start of the project and its objectives. The brochure will be updated at month 30 and the final brochure at month 45 will provide an outline of the project achievements. The brochure will be designed and produced for large distribution at fairs, conferences and workshops.
As a general rule, the project uses electronic information means, due to a better scalability (easy to update) and a better environmental respect. The project is however aware that printed information is still the principal instrument for informing specific groups of stakeholders during events such as fairs, conferences and workshops).
To complete the project brochure and the e-‐Newsletter, off-‐the shelf flyers will be produced for wide distribution at fairs and conferences. The flyers will have the format of a postcard or a bookmark. For events organised by BRICKER and for stands at exhibitions, banners and posters will be produced.
One institutional video on the BRICKER achievements will be released by the project at month 36. This video, of an approximate duration of 8-‐10 minutes, will be designed and packaged to provide relevant stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of the achievements of the project. It is intended to start filming the non-‐renovated buildings. During the whole project duration snapshots will be taken of the planning, execution and operation of the works.
A number of publications in the technical literature and dedicated journals are foreseen throughout the project.
At the end of the project, BRICKER will issue Best Practices Book, a short publication highlighting the results of the action in the form of best practices for wider adoption and distribution3. The book shall also serve as guidance for future policy developments and initiatives in the same area and will target industrial players, SMEs, research organisations and public institutions (including the European Commission) and local public authorities.
BRICKER partners will participate and represent the project at specific fairs and conferences focusing on energy efficiency. Each year, a list of such events will be identified by the consortium partners as possible targets for the project presentation and dissemination of results. Fairs and conferences are intended not only as a dissemination tool but also as a networking opportunity to enlarge the BRICKER network and maximise the impact of future market deployment.
In addition, BRICKER will organise a final event in 2017 to present the results and achievements to EU institutions, policy makers, public authorities, research organisations and industry. The final event could also be organised as a side event to a larger conference or in cooperation with the projects from the same call , in order to attract more audience.
Also in 2017, a series of national dissemination workshops are planned by by the local partners to present the results of BRICKER at the national and local level. Based on the contents of the national dissemination workshops, a webinar will be carried out and available from the web site.
3 Details about the structure of the Best Practices Book can be found in Section 3.5.8 below.

After the successful integration of the BRICKER technologies and their deployment, study tours to the three demonstrators will be planned towards the end of the project.
2.6 Clustering with other related projects
BRICKER will support clustering initiatives with fellow projects, in particular with those projects funded in the same EU call as BRICKER, namely A2BPEER and RESSEEPE. The objective is to enhance the communication and dissemination outreach and leverage the replicability potential.
2.7 Roles & responsibilities of the partners
All partners contribute to the implementation of the D&C plan and play a key role in the networking with stakeholders. Partner YOU develops and updates the D&C plan under supervision of coordinator ACC. Partners ACC and TEC specifically deal with stakeholder networking as well as with clustering with other related projects.
The BRICKER D&C Secretariat implements all dissemination and communication activities under the supervision and in close cooperation of the coordinator.
All sorts of external communication are encouraged to promote the BRICKER project and its results. The dissemination strategy of BRICKER focuses on print media, Internet media and events. Provisions are made to ensure coordination, consistency and quality of publications for the benefit of the project’s reputation. A second purpose is to give visibility within the project to any public relation activities of the partners.

3 Implementation Plan and Timeline
3.1 Key messages
According to BRICKER’s objectives, dissemination and communication will draw on the following key messages:
Ø Achieve greater energy efficiency in public owned buildings through smart retrofit – a concern for building owners and citizens alike.
Ø Replicate BRICKER solutions across Europe’s diverse public-‐owned buildings stock – architects, constructors, policy-‐makers and their constituents/citizens)
Ø Benefit from a holistic approach covering the latest building technologies and knowledge of legal and economic frameworks in order to cutting energy demand in public buildings – designers and planners, promoters and investors
Ø The BRICKER concept means better health, better comfort, and better use of resources – end-‐users.
Ø Administrative decision-‐making processes for retrofitting publicly owned buildings takes time – a concern for public building owners and constructors/ engineers
Any communication should use at least one key message to tell the story about BRICKER. At least one key message should be the basis for any communication. Depending on target group, the messages can be refined4.
Target groups include public authorities as building owners, designers, planners, and providers of the technologies to be deployed. In addition to these key players for the uptake of the BRICKER concept, citizen and community groups are to be considered as valuable relays and pressure points. In this way, a combined “top-‐down” and “bottom up” approach can be brought to bear to encourage replication.
The BRICKER partners with their different scientific, technical and socio-‐cultural backgrounds are the most important experts for refining key messages to the specific target groups they are dealing with, in a peer-‐to-‐peer relation using the local language. Even slight modifications can have strong impact, as the right word can be decisive for catching the attention of a viewer, reader or listener.
Timeline
The BRICKER key message will be used continuously for all communication and dissemination supports and written and online publications.
All publications YOU, ALL
4 Refined specific key messages for the specific target audiences may be suggested in the updates of the D&C Plan.

3.2 Visual identity and Branding
In order to convey the project visual image of BRICKER all dissemination and communication supports from BRICKER need to contain the logo. According to specific use, the logo can be in colour or black and white, with or without payoff. Different BRICKER logo versions for web, print and image are available on the BRICKER team site. Detailed guidelines for using the BRICKER logo and different version of the BRICKER logo are also available in the BRICKER team site folder ‘Pictures – LOGO’ as well as in Annex 1.
For branding the BRICKER project, all publications (online and off line) related to BRICKER need to carry the BRICKER logo, and use, if applicable, the BRICKER key messages.
For acknowledging the EU funding and branding EU, the EU flag and a reference text must be used. The following branding references have been developed for BRICKER:

The rules for use of the logos and for branding publications will be applied continuously throughout the project.

3.3 Conditions for ensuring proper dissemination of the generated knowledge, related to confidentiality, publication and use of the knowledge.
3.3.1 Open Access
The dissemination approach of the BRICKER project complies with the Open Access obligations as laid out in ECs Open Access strategy which aims to develop and implement open access to research results from projects funded by the EU Research Framework Programmes, namely Seventh Framework Programme and Horizon 2020. That way, results of publicly funded research can therefore be disseminated more broadly and faster, for the benefit of researchers, innovative industry and citizens. Open access can also boost the visibility of European research, and in particular offer small and medium-‐sized enterprises (SMEs) access to the latest research for utilization.
With the start of Horizon 2020, open access to scientific publication and research data for EU co-‐funded projects has been re-‐emphasised by the EU and guidelines have been made available for the research community. Already in FP7, open access to scientific publications was recommended for projects such as BRICKER. While there is no obligation to publish results of European research in open access, it is left to the funded projects to decide. However, if a project chooses publication as “a means of publication”, then the principle of open access publishing needs to be taken into consideration. Under Horizon 2020, each beneficiary must ensure open access to all peer-‐reviewed scientific publications relating to its results.
D7.30 Third version of the Dissemination and Communication Plan
21 / 120
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Programme for research, technological development and demonstration

Open access also means improving access to scientific publications and data. This is considered important by the EU as it allows to build research on previously published research results, to achieve greater efficiency by fostering collaboration and avoiding duplication, to accelerate innovation as well as to involve citizens and society in order to increase transparency of the scientific process. 6
In the following, the mechanisms of open access publications and ways to publish will be developed, to be used by BRICKER partners who decide to disseminate and share instead of exploiting and protecting their results.
Graph 1 displays the options and paths available for decision-‐making on open access publication of BRICKER results. Basically, two options are available. If a researcher is interested in disseminating and sharing the results, then publication and/or data deposition would be the adequate paths to choose. If a researcher decides to exploit and protect the results of the research, then patenting or another form of protection would have to be addressed7.
Graph 1 Guidelines on Open Access to Scientific Publications and Research Data 8
In the OA context, publication means peer-‐reviewed and to be read online, downloaded and printed. A typical peer reviewed publication is an article in a scientific journal. However, researchers are encouraged to also provide open access to conference proceedings, books,
6 See Guidelines on Open Access to Scientific Publications and Research Data in Horizon 2020, EC Research and Innovation, Version 1, 13 December 2013 7 In the BRICKER project, issues such as patenting, licensing and more are dealt with in WP6 Exploitation and will not be further elaborated here. 8 EC Research and Innovation, Version 1, 11 December 2013

and grey literature or reports. The open access publication process includes two steps: 1) deposition of the publication in repositories and 2) providing access to the publication. Two paths are feasible for depositing the publication and providing open access: Green Open Access and Gold Open Access.
Green Open Access implies self-‐archiving of a peer-‐reviewed and accepted publication in machine-‐readable format in a depository, i.e. an online archive, of their choice. The depositor must make sure that the open access to the publication is given within 6 months after deposit. Many online repositories are available. The OpenAIRE platform9 gives access to numerous online archives in different research domains (www.openaire.eu). Other platforms with thematic listings of OA online repositories are Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR)10 or the Directory of Open Access Repositories (DOAR)11.
Gold Open Access requests also the deposit of a machine-‐readable electronic copy of the latest published version or final peer-‐reviewed manuscript accepted for publication in a repository for scientific publications in order to ensure long-‐term preservation of the article. The publication can be made in open access journals, or in journals that sell subscriptions and also offer the possibility of making individual articles openly accessible (hybrid journals). Monographs can also be published either via a 'pure' open access or via a hybrid business model. The author processing charges (APCs) for gold open access incurred by beneficiaries are eligible for reimbursement during the duration of the project.
In Horizon 2020, public access of the research data is required for publications using open access. BRICKER will produce many useful and interesting data. Their publication for open access should be considered, once the data will be available.
Costs for Open Access publication are eligible for funding within FP7 projects. The European Commission launched the FP7 Post-‐Grant Open Access Pilot last year, to fund Open Access publishing fees for publications arising from finished FP7 projects through the OpenAIRE project. This Pilot provides funding for Open Access Article and Book Processing Charges (APCs/BPCs) for FP7 projects up to two years after their end12.

Consortium Agreement signed by the BRICKER Consortium partners before the signature of the Grant Agreement. These conditions contained in Article 8.3 of the GA agreement stipulate that
• Dissemination activities, including but not restricted to publications and presentations shall be governed by Article II.30 of the Grant Agreement. Notwithstanding the time limits set out in Article II. 30 of the Grant Agreement the following shall apply:
o The time limit to give prior notice of any Dissemination activity and to send a copy to the Parties shall be 25 days. The time limit to object on grounds stated in Article II.30 of the Grant Agreement is 25 days. If this period expires without any objections made, the respective Party may disseminate its publication or representation at its own discretion.
• The time to object commences, when the prior notice is either notified separately to the Parties for instance by e-‐mail or it is available in the Project's intranet or Project's automated documentation management system. For the avoidance of doubt, a Party may not publish confidential information belonging to another Party without the prior written consent of the Party concerned. The Party objecting a publication has to show that its legitimate interests will suffer disproportionately great harm and shall include a request for necessary modifications.
• If an objection has been raised the involved Parties shall discuss how to overcome the justified grounds for the objection on a timely basis in order to make into an agreement (for example by amendment to the planned publication and/or by protecting information before publication). Dissemination, including publication, of own Background and Foreground may only be delayed for a maximum of ninety (90) days, after which consent for publication shall be deemed to have been granted.
• For the avoidance of doubt, a Party may not publish Foreground or Background of another Party, even if such Foreground or Background is amalgamated with the Party’s Foreground, without the other Party’s prior written approval.
• The Parties undertake to cooperate to allow the timely submission, examination, publication and defence of any dissertation or thesis for a degree which includes their Foreground or Background. However, confidentiality and publication clauses have to be respected.
Through their signature of the CA and GA, all partners are bound by the rules laid down in the previous lines.
3.3.3 Authorship Concerning rules for authorship we distinguish between publications dealing with background and foreground of partners involved and publications of a more promotional nature for BRICKER.

Concerning papers and presentations of scientific and technical nature displaying outputs, results, and outcomes such as deployed technologies or energy reductions achieved by BRICKER will be co-‐authored by the partners providing (and responsible for) the specific information as main authors.
Regarding general communication papers, such as presentations made at the beginning of the project, will be authored (or co-‐authored) by the partner(s) holding the presentation. A specific Power Point Presentation template is prepared by the D&C Secretariat containing some pre-‐filled slide, among others a slide with the logos of all partners.
Regarding communication issued by the BRICKER D&C Secretariat such as web site, press releases, brochure or flyers, no particular partner will be mentioned as all partners are part of the D&C Secretariat. Instead the URL of the BRICKER web site and if needed the email address of coordinator and/or Secretariat will be indicated. Posters can be localised for promoting the partner using it.
3.4 Main targets/ stakeholder interaction
The BRICKER project targets different audiences that have been divided into three main target groups:
• Value Chain stakeholders. • Controlling stakeholders. • Resources/knowledge stakeholders.
As said before, the stakeholders have been segmented along the value chain process. These Value Chain stakeholders are structured in a sequence starting with the end-‐user who decides that he/she likes BRICKER. Below is the list of these Value Chain stakeholders:
• General public
• Public Building owners
• Architects and engineers
• Public and private promoters
• Investors
• Energy-‐environment service providers
• Building contractors
• Building industry providers & installers
• Energy technology businesses

The general public comprises citizens, end users such as patients, students and staff, as well as local communities who have an interest in the topics of BRICKER. Communication activities aim at:
Ø increasing citizens’ awareness about the benefits of investing in energy efficiency solutions;
Ø providing reliable information on the benefits of new technologies for the environment, security of supply, lower energy costs and employment;
Ø communicating the impact of renovation activities at final users’ level in BRICKER to bring real technological innovations closer to people.
The Controlling stakeholders who influence the decisions of the Value Chain stakeholders to deploy BRICKER results or not, comprise the following groups:
• European, national, regional and local public authorities
• Standardization bodies
• Energy Management Agencies.
• Lobby and communication, i.e. all federations, associations and platforms where BRICKER partners are members and additional ones as well as NGOs
The third group of stakeholders, the Resources/knowledge stakeholders include:
• Universities
• Higher Education Institutions
• Research centres
Public authorities represent a very important dissemination target of the project. They are key players able to increase awareness among policy makers, support favourable legislative framework creation and public procurement and in many cases they represent the owners and promoters of public buildings. To this effect, the BRICKER consortium includes two public authorities: The Province de Liège, the Regional Government of the Extremadura as well as three universities: University Liège, Ozyegin University, and Adnan Menderes University.
The BRICKER target audiences have been identified by a common exercise among the partners. All partners contribute to setting up a list of stakeholders by providing information about their respective target audiences. For collection of contacts from the partners, the stakeholders are grouped into the following categories:
• Industry. • Professional association. • Public authorities. • Higher Education institutions. • European initiatives.

• Research. • End-‐users. • Community initiatives, citizen initiatives • Other.
The list has been established according to replication potential assuming that stakeholders with a direct business interests such as architects, construction companies or technology providers are most motivated in replication. Regional and local public authorities also have vested interests in BRICKER replication. Often financial constraints limit ambitious projects though.
The following Graph gives an overview of the different BRICKER target audiences. It constitutes the first approach for segmentation of target groups in order to convey very targeted messages at later stages of the project. These segments are currently being further developed in the light of the project’s progress and feedback so far.

With contributions from the partners, the BRICKER D&C Secretariat has established a stakeholder list containing details of the organisation, contacts and assigned partner and/ or D&C Secretariat for contacting the stakeholder in question.
The BRICKER stakeholder list is a document that will be enhanced and enlarged as the project progresses. The current list of stakeholders13, managed jointly with the D&C Secretariat includes 480 organisations from all target groups, 90 members of the BRICKER team, 22 web users registered on BRICKER web site, and 22 followers of the BRICKER LinkedIn page. Partner SEZ manage another 741 stakeholder contacts. Some 39 initiatives involving communities and citizens have also been compiled. Some of these are European in nature while others are very local. As part of this revised dissemination and communication plan, BRICKER partners will be encouraged, under the auspices of the D&C secretariat, to list possible citizen initiatives which may be able to make use of the BRICKER concept in some way. Outreach to local initiatives will have more impact coming from local project partners themselves. We will therefore encourage a two pronged approach whereby the D&C Secretariat will deal with European level networks, while local partners will be encouraged to connect with initiatives and community groups in their localities.
13 We wish to underline that we are dealing here ONLY with stakeholder contacts provided by the BRICKER partners and managed by the D&C Secretariat. Both SEZ and YOU have numerous contacts with stakeholders at national and European level, and participate actively in the networking with these. It must be noted that these belong mainly to the Controlling stakeholder category, and not to the value chain stakeholder targets.

Graph 3 BRICKER target groups by numbers
The segmentation of the BRICKER target groups by numbers reveals that the stakeholder contacts provided by BRICKER partners and managed by the D&C Secretariat cover well the resource/knowledge stakeholder network with numerous contacts in universities/HEI and research centres. Numerous contacts also exist with controlling stakeholders except for standardization bodies. Public authorities on European and national levels as well as on the regional and local level, professional associations and federations both European and national can be approached for promotion and support.
The segmentation of the value chain stakeholders by numbers reveals progress as compared to the segmentation figures in March 2015. In particular, the recently established contacts with citizen and community initiatives have a great multiplier potential. Many of the public authorities among the stakeholders are building owners and are considered as key targets for BRICKER replication. Other important groups are designers and planners who play a major role in the replication of the integrated BRICKER concept. Building industry providers and installers as well as technology businesses will be interested in replication for accessing new markets
The segmentation of the BRICKER targets by country shows that most BRICKER stakeholders can be found in Belgium, Spain and Turkey where the BRICKER demo sites and most of the partners are located. Another important group are the EU associations and platforms. Further stakeholders in relevant numbers are located in Germany, Italy, the UK and France.
The graph below shows the distribution of stakeholders by country. While the huge majority of stakeholders is based in Europe, one or two stakeholders are located in the US, Latin and South America, North Africa and Australia.

Graph 4: BRICKER stakeholder segmentation by country
As stated earlier, it will be important that all BRICKER partners strengthen future efforts to link up with citizens and building owners with the aim of developing relationships with the value chain stakeholders. Main opportunities are events at the local demo sites such as an Open House, the local workshops that will be organised at a later stage of the project, and other events where BRICKER partners participate. The demo site partners are public building owners and they will play a key role in engaging with their peers about the benefits of energy efficient retrofit of their buildings and the transfer of knowledge for concrete renovation projects. The BRICKER D&C Secretariat will launch another call among the partners for identifying and sharing contacts and organisations in their networks, potentially interested in BRICKER concept, technologies, and experience.
The BRICKER D&C Secretariat will continue its efforts to connect the project with more local citizen/grassroots initiatives so as to leverage a bottom-‐up approach to awareness raising.
Networking with the stakeholder groups is shared between the BRICKER partners and the D&C Secretariat. The main reason is that BRICKER is not yet well known in the energy efficient

buildings community. Therefore, the impact of communication from BRICKER partners towards their networks is expected to be considerably higher than of a communication by the D&C Secretariat. The partners named responsible for their specific stakeholders will regularly distribute news, newsletters and other information issued by the D&C Secretariat to their dedicated networks. The aim is to invite and encourage stakeholders to register on the web site, which will give them access to news mailings as well as to downloadable documentations. In the end, this strategy will lead to an efficient and centralised dissemination towards the stakeholders.

Other SEO strategies for the BRICKER web site include meta-‐tagging. Search engine optimization (SEO) is a technique that helps search engines find and rank your site higher than many other sites in response to a search query. Search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo, just to mention the most important ones, use mathematical formulas to determine the rank of a web page. These mathematical formulas, called ranking algorithms, aren't revealed but we can guess and influence their behaviour. All major search engines work to the same principle although each will have its own ranking algorithms. The content of the web pages is one of the most important ranking factors. By optimizing Bricker web pages, search engines can index the web pages showing in the results the given texts. The most important elements for optimization are:
• Meta description • Page title tags • Text Formatting • Image file names
A title tag tells both users and search engines what the topic of a particular page is. When the title appears in a search results page, the contents of the title tag will usually appear in the first line of the results. For Bricker’s website the meta titles format will be the following for all the pages:
Ø “Brief and clear page’s content description” | Bricker The last part of the meta title, e.g “Bricker”, is important for both, search engine indexing and users understanding of information’s source. A page's description meta tag gives Google and other search engines a summary of what the page is about. Description meta tags are important because Google might use them as snippets for your pages. Description both inform and interest users if they saw your description meta tag as a snippet in a search result. Example of Bricker’s Homepage meta tags are
Ø Meta Title: Energy reduction in public building stock | Bricker Ø Meta Description: FP7 EU project that aims to develop a system to refurbish existing
public non-‐residential buildings to achieve at least 50% energy consumption reduction. Image information on BRICKER website pages are also relevant for the search engines. All Bricker’s images have a distinct filename and "alt" attribute, both of which website indexing take advantage of. The “Alt" attribute allows you to specify alternative text for the image if it cannot be displayed for some reason.

3.5.2 E-‐Newsletter A periodic e-‐Newsletter is available on the BRICKER web site and sent-‐out via electronic means to the identified stakeholders in order to improve visibility of the project via electronic means. The newsletter provides information on milestones and results achieved in the project on a six-‐monthly basis. The newsletter is available in English. Partners are called upon to use their networks of contacts (scientific, industrial, professional, etc.) to reach the maximum number of stakeholders. Partners directly involved with local communities and stakeholders can translate a shorter version of the newsletter into their national language.
The newsletter is also made accessible to the online community (registered users). Additionally, it is available in pdf format for audiences not registered to the web site. Depending on the amount of news to be included, each newsletter comprises between 10-‐16 pages. The Secretariat is responsible for the newsletter content selection, editing and dispatching to the BRICKER network -‐ beyond the partners’ networks.
The partners also have the possibility to publish the contents or part of the contents of the BRICKER e-‐Newsletter in their organization’s newsletters and report to the Secretariat as part of their project dissemination activities.
Eight editions of the e-‐Newsletter will be prepared during the lifetime of BRICKER. It is intended to publish the newsletter after each face-‐to-‐face Steering Committee meeting.

The structure of each of the newsletters will be the same:
Editorial
News and interviews (taken from the web site)
News from the demo sites
Scientists’ corner
Focus on one-‐two partners
News from the BRICKER network
Meet us at Events.
The first BRICKER Newsletter was published in May 2014, and the second in October 2014. The D&C Secretariat has sent the newsletter by email to about 450 contacts (provided by the BRICKER partners) as well as to all BRICKER team members (90 contacts). Partners SEZ and CAR have sent Newsletter 1 to another 750 and 83 contacts respectively. The Newsletters are available online on the web site, can be browsed and downloaded in pdf.
BRICKER Newsletter 3 was published in May 2015 and Newsletter 4 in December 2015. These Newsletters were sent to the newsletter subscribers on the web site (48 contacts) and to another 78 contacts (mainly BRICKER team, EC).
The first and second newsletter was sent out to the stakeholders’ database set up by the Secretariat with the contribution of all the partners. The purpose of the communication was explained and the users thus addressed were invited to register on the BRICKER website, should they want to receive other Newsletters from the project. From the third release onwards only registered users on the website and the BRICKER ream members have received the Newsletter.
Since BRICKER Newsletter 4, a new format and mailing has been adopted. Newsletter 4 was edited and published with a new publishing tool called scoop.it!, a web based content management platform, collecting and curating contents in an interactive magazine-‐like format around themes. YOU is subscribed to a dedicated premium account, which enables templates to be created according to the graphic layout and visual image needed in the communications. The Newsletter in this format will be sent to the list of registered users via email, it will be published on the website in the Newsletter section and it will also be available on scoop.it! which can be considered as an additional distribution channel working, in some way, as a social media platform thus addressing an even larger public16. The newsletter remains available on the web site in pdf.
16 The new newsletter production process allows also for tracking outreach and uptake. Detailed results will be presented in the final version of the D&C Plan.

3.5.3 Web communication: Articles, interviews, press releases Besides traditional web instruments (e.g. the project website), the public aspect of web communication is approached by BRICKER. The project website along with the youris.com platform host articles and interviews around the project and related topics, written by professional journalists. The information is also marketed to other platforms such as youris.com, BuildUp, AlphaGalileo, Phys.org, CordisWire, Construction21 . The project will identify specific hot topics that can catch the public attention and make science and technology easy-‐to-‐understand for a non-‐expert audience.
This activity spans the whole duration of the project and complements the scientific and more technical web dissemination with materials designed and released for a wider use.
Articles about BRICKER, interviews with BRICKER partners and press releases are published regularly on the web site and on specific online news services. Press releases are prepared on the occasion of important events taking place within the BRICKER project and its partnerships such as project meetings, organisation of workshops, major publications and deliverables. The partners are encouraged to take up the press releases for their own dissemination channels and their organisations’ web site.

3.5.4 Web 2.0 tools The following web 2.0 buttons are installed on the BRICKER web site: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+. Web users can share information about BRICKER on their respective social network(s)
There are already many energy-‐efficient buildings accounts and discussion groups active on the social web. It is therefore difficult to attract attention with one project. In order to build online foot print in a smart 'light' way and to improve SEO, a BRICKER LinkedIn company page was launched at the end of M17 17 . It will display project developments, in close link with the web site, promote BRICKER events and events where BRICKER partners can be met, and inform about relevant actions in the domain. At a later stage, showcase pages for the demo sites can be set up in order to inform followers about the development of the interventions, lessons learnt and experience to share.
BRICKER web site visitors and BRICKER’s fellow projects have been invited to follow the page.
The BRICKER LinkedIn company page 18 has currently 66 followers. Results about use and reach of the page will be reported below in section 4.4.

3.5.5 Dissemination materials
A Power Point presentation template about BRICKER for use at events such as conferences, and workshops is available for the BRICKER partners, in English and in Spanish. The ppt contains some pre-‐filled slides with a description of the BRICKER project, and include
• the objectives
• the demos
• the expected impact
• the logos of the consortium members.
Partners are free to use the pre-‐filled slides.
A project brochure will be produced at three different stages of the project: the first one at month 12 to inform the stakeholder community of the start of the project and its objective. The brochure will be updated at month 30 and the final brochure at month 45 will provide an outline of the project achievements. The first BRICKER brochure consists of 6 pages of text and photos, introducing the project, the demo sites, the technologies, the targets and the partners. The volume of the final brochure will be increased to 8 -‐10 pages as more information on achievements and results will be included in the updated version. The brochures will be designed and produced for large distribution at fairs, conferences and workshops, and include figures and graphics presented in a comprehensive energy balance, considering the buildings as an energy consuming unit, before and after the BRICKER implementation.
The first BRICKER brochure was printed in 1000 copies, and has been distributed to the BRICKER partners and some other stakeholders for further distribution.

3.5.6 Production of the institutional video
For dissemination, the BRICKER Project plans to produce an institutional video. This video will have an expected length of 8-‐10 minutes and is aimed at stakeholders to highlight the project’s purpose and achievements. It will be used by project partners and associates for presentations at talks or conferences; it will be shown on fairs, and also shown on websites of the BRICKER Project, its partners and on specialist’s websites.
The video will be designed to showcase different active and passive technologies implemented at the three demo sites in Spain, Turkey and Belgium. For this video we will film the works on the buildings, and interview the key people working on site who will be able to tell us something on technological challenges, on incoming results or on the improvements achieved.
The film is likely to be structured as follows:
-‐ short overview on the BRICKER Project, with the indication of the three demo sites and political, legal and technological setting.
-‐ description of passive technologies -‐ examples: aerating windows und PIR foams in Belgium, ventilated facades in Turkey -‐ description of active technologies -‐ examples: biomass boiler, the chiller and the solar panels in Spain or Turkey, the
biomass boiler in Belgium, -‐ summary + outlook

Production Process
Filming will take place once it is possible to see the retro fitting works being implemented. The best timing for a visit of the film crew, is when about two thirds the work is completed. Initially it was planned to start the filming process in 2015, but due to the late start of the retrofitting works, also the filming had to be postponed.
It is now envisaged that the first filming will take place at the Liège site (Belgium) in mid-‐2016. For the two other sites in Cáceres (Spain) and Aysin (Turkey), the timing will be fixed once the building works have begun.
In addition to filming the demo sites, the film producers also want to make interviews with the relevant partners who are not associated to a single demo site. Therefore it is envisaged that a film crew will be present during a progress meeting to make interviews with the coordinator and other key partners on the overall objective of BRICKER. These interviews may also happen in mid 2016, and possibly coincide with the filming at the demo site of Liège. The film producers are in regular contact with the BRICKER Secretariat to find the best possible dates and location for these interviews.
The post-‐production process will take place once the last site has been filmed. The aim is then to edit the film, provide a voice-‐over, get it approved by the co-‐ordinator and partners, and release and share the final version with the partners.
Apart from this institutional video, the partners will receive a compilation of the filmed material to be used for their own activity in communication or exploitation.
During the production process, it will be verified if additional customized shorter edits need to be produced, for example for a more specific target groups, e.g. focusing only on one technology or for a version for a TV broadcaster..
The video will be released by youris.com via its Third Party Leonardo Film. The BRICKER Secretariat will co-‐ordinate these activities and will be responsible for editing and layout of the contents defined together with the coordinator.

3.5.8 Best Practices Book
Towards the end of the project, a Best Practices Book will be compiled drawing on the insights of the project team gained throughout BRICKER. The aim is to widely disseminate these insights, results and recommendations, in a user-‐friendly format to promote uptake. The book shall also inform future policy developments and initiatives in the same areas and it will target industry, SMEs, research organisations and public institutions (including the European Commission) and public authorities.
Through a process to be elaborated by the D&C Secretariat and the Coordinator, each partner will be asked to identify possible best practices, guidelines or recommendations on various project themes such as design, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
For each best practice, a template would be used with strict indications as to content, tone of message and word counts. In addition to the core content of each best practice and to ensure easy access for readers, two indicators could be used: Impact rating, and Replicability. The former indicates how important the best practice is compared to others, while the latter refers to how easy or difficult the best practice would be to replicate. This weighting of this system would have to be designed and then revised by the coordinator and other project members who have solid technical knowledge. Emphasis would also be placed on the stakeholder groups targeted by each best practice. In this respect, an introductory table cross-‐referencing the Best Practices with the stakeholder categories could be envisaged.
A draft template of a best practice page is shown below. The template is designed to give an idea about the content of the Best Practice Book. The contents provided here are not specifically related to BRICKER.

3.5.9 Participation in Fairs, Conferences and workshops BRICKER partners attend events relating in some way to the topics of the BRICKER projects in order to keep abreast with new developments. They use these events as opportunities to inform interested targets and raise awareness about BRICKER. Participation in fairs and conferences for the specific purposes of BRICKER will start in 2016 and 2017 since the project will have produced results by then.
The BRICKER D&C Secretariat coordinates both, the awareness raising events and the dedicated participation to fairs and conferences by requesting reports about past and future outreach activities every 6 months19. The coordination helps to avoid overlap and to promote joint activities.
An overview of the events attended in M1-‐M29 by different BRICKER partners can be found in Results section 4.3. In total, the BRICKER partners attended nearly 100 fairs, conferences and workshops since the start of the project.

Events organised by the project in 2015
In collaboration with the RESSEEPE and A2PBEER20 , BRICKER has organised the Workshop “Innovative retrofitting Activities”. The workshop took place on 17 September 2015 in Savona Italy. About 30 participants from academia and industry attended the workshop. Fabrizio Alberti from BRICKER partner FBK presented the BRICKER project. The discussions during the workshop underlined the need for continuous stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle and particularly at the early stages of the projects.
Future events organised by the project in 2016-‐2017
BRICKER, RESSEEPE and A2PBEER projects plan to organise a panel discussion during the EUSEW2016 Energy Days and a joint Workshop at SP2016. The panel discussion will address “Challenges of public building retrofitting – Lessons learnt from procurement”. For BRICKER, the panel discussion will be organised by Acciona and youris, with contributions from the demo site owners (SPB, GEX, ADU). The workshop at SP2016 will focus on retrofitting technologies. Tecnalia will represent BRICKER in the Workshop
Open House days will be organised during EUSEW 2017 at the three demo sites by the demo site owners and the D&C Secretariat. The Open House will be the occasion to show the actors on local level the innovations implemented by BRICKER. It targets building users and citizens at large. Actions planned during the Open House are short presentations about BRICKER, guided visits of the refurbished buildings, and distribution of information material. A special Newsletter will be published about the Open House to inform audiences at European level.

A Final BRICKER Conference is planned towards the end of the project in 2017. A possible joint final event in Brussels by mid 2017 with the two fellow projects is currently being discussed. All three projects end nearly at the same time, i.e RESSEPPE in June 2017 and BRICKER and A2PBEER in September 2017. Also, holding the Final BRICKER Conference along a larger event will be considered. Both approaches would ensure a larger audience for the BRICKER event.
In 2017, BRICKER plans to hold National Workshops at sites where BRICKER partners are located, in order to present results and to reach out to local, regional and national public authorities and other stakeholders. The Secretariat will support the local partners in promoting the workshops, with publicity materials as well as with the registration procedure through an online event registration tool.
As part of the national workshops in Belgium, Spain and Turkey, study visits to demo sites are also planned in 2017. These target local, regional and national governmental organizations, other stakeholders like architects, engineers, and research organisations.
In order to raise awareness, disseminate the BRICKER concept and results and promote the replication of BRICKER approach, several national workshops will be organised in the partners’ countries. Three of these workshops include a study tour to the demonstration sites.
Overall the workshops target local, regional and national public authorities who are regulators and building owners at the same time, other stakeholders as architects, planners, engineers, ad research organisations. Bringing together different specific interests into one event is a challenge and most likely, some of the national workshops will focus on specific audiences and highlight specific results.
Workshops will be half a day long. At the sites where the workshop includes a study tour, the workshop and study tour will 1-‐1.5 days long.
In order to attract big numbers of participants, the workshops will be organised as side events to larger gatherings, i.e. conferences, fairs etc. These gatherings do not necessarily take place where the workshops take place. Also, the attention for an event outside the capital of a country might be higher than in places with high density of events going on.
Contents of the workshops include the presentation of the BRICKER concept and implementation approach, technological and non-‐technological challenges, and lessons learnt for retrofitting public buildings. Although all topics will be addressed in the each workshop, some will rather focus on technological challenges, while Workshops cum Study Tour will highlight the non-‐technological challenges. The competencies of the national partner(s) will also play a role in the fine-‐tuning the programme of a national workshop. The workshops will take place in the national language.

3.6 Clustering with other related projects
The BRICKER D&C Secretariat cooperates with the dissemination leaders of the A2BPEER and RESSEEPE projects to identify synergies in the organization of specific dissemination activities and use of communication tools. Possible synergies identified by the BRICKER Secretariat cover: mutual link web exchange, organization of common events, common outreach activities to local stakeholder groups, social media exploitation targeting a common online community (through one dedicated discussion group for the three projects, as an example), exchange of best practices, etc.
The use of social media is very popular and the user numbers increase steadily. Statistics show, for example, that every second, two new members join LinkedIn, the social network for professionals21. On the other hand, the number of active users in social networks is quite low compared to the number of registered users. By joining forces, several projects can set up a group or page on social media that deals with a common theme, and thus generate more activities and traffic. Social networks are efficient for informing European project about the project life and to spread messages to wide audiences. We will propose common web 2.0 activities to the cluster projects of BRICKER in order to achieve synergies for the topic “Energy-‐efficient renovation of public building stock” and jointly coordinate these accounts.
Following the annual PPP Impact Workshop event organised on 1 and 2 April 2014 in Brussels, the project clustering process has started. Over the coming months, the projects involved will set out a strategy for common events and synergy.
After a successful Workshop at SP2015, the three projects A2BPEER, BRICKER and RESSEEPE have decided to continue to organise joint events. A panel discussion during the EUSEW2016 Energy Days is in preparation as well as a joint workshop at SP2016. A joint final event of all three projects in 2017 is under discussion.
Other collaboration options for the three projects include a joint collaboration during Open Days 2017, and a meeting of the teams of BRICKER – A2BPEER – RESSEEPE to exchange results and experience.

Finally, the three projects will consider the opportunity to publish a joint Best Practices Book. Although the three projects were selected in the same call, the knowledge generated and the lessons learnt throughout the lifetime of the projects are diverse and rich. A joint Best Practices Book can attract considerable attention among stakeholders and has a high impact at European and local level. Information from the projects’ deliverables will be merged into a common document, jointly prepared and distributed. A joint Best Practice Book could be considered as the legacy of the call EeB.NMP.2013.3.
Apart from the three projects forming the core of the cluster, projects, 3ENCULT, EFFESUS, CommonENERGY and ECOShopping are considered to be part of the area ‘Solutions for energy-‐efficient renovation of non-‐residential or historic buildings’. BRICKER will also seek synergies with these projects, by involving them for example, in events organized by the core cluster.
In view of the clustering activities suggested, the BRICKER coordinator, the WP6 Leader and the D&C secretariat have joined the RESSEEPE Online Platform. Partner EURAC also participates in the platform. The platform is called “Exploitation for RESSEEPE” and managed by RESSEEPE dissemination partner APINTECH. 35 representatives from projects and organisations follow currently the platform.
The coordinator and the secretariat have also exchanged with ENACE and the Energy Efficiency Unit of Applus. Both are active in the fields of certification and are interested in meeting BRICKER partners at events and in promoting BRICKER via their networks.

3.8 Roles & responsibilities of the partners
3.8.1 Roles All partners contribute to the implementation of the D&C plan. Partner YOU develops and updates the D&C plan under supervision of coordinator ACC. Partner TEC is continuously involved in networking with stakeholders as well as in clustering with other related projects.
All partners provide regularly input about their outreach activities regarding events participation and publications (see template Annex 2). Every six months, all partners will be invited to update the report about their outreach activities. The aim of these reports is to keep records of dissemination activities, to analyse activities and measure their impact and to be informed about the dissemination activities developed by other BRICKER partners. Partners also regularly provide news for the 6-‐monthly e-‐Newsletter and are available for interviews by professional journalists.

Moreover, the partners are actively involved in dispatching news from BRICKER towards their specific stakeholders. All partners take responsibility for liaising with their stakeholders and forwarding news from BRICKER. At a later stage (2016 and 2017), partners will actively attend events of relevance for BRICKER, be involved in organising the BRICKER conference, training workshops and the study visits to the demo sites.
3.8.2 Responsibilities The BRICKER D&C Secretariat implements all dissemination and communication activities under the supervision and in close cooperation of the coordinator. All actions proposed by the Secretariat are subject to preceding validation by the coordinator.
The Dissemination & Communication group with representatives from each partner has been established; they are the main interface of the D&C Secretariat for outreach actions. A dedicated DC@bricker-‐project.com mailing list is in place and should be used.
All sorts of external communication are encouraged to promote the BRICKER project and its results. The dissemination strategy focuses on print media, Internet media and events. Provisions are made to ensure coordination, consistency and quality of publications for the benefit of the project’s reputation. A second purpose is to give visibility within the project to any public relation activities of the partners.
The D&C Secretariat provides a template for power point presentations about BRICKER, available to all project partners. Its use is strongly encouraged.
Furthermore, the D&C Secretariat produces press releases covering all the major project deliverables. These press releases and other communications are at the disposal of the partners for use in their own dissemination and communication channels. The D&C Secretariat will also coordinate press releases and other communications issued by the partners on their own. In this case the partners shall inform the coordinator and/or D&C Secretariat to ensure coherent and timely communication.
The rules set out above in Section 3.2 Visual identity and branding apply here.
All project related papers and presentations made by project partners to an outside audience must be approved by the Steering Committee (SC). The SC is to be informed by e-‐mail about the document (or presentation) title, abstract or summary, and the targeted audience or conference. Five (5) working days are allowed to the SC for response. No response means tacit approval.
In addition, dissemination activities are discussed at the Steering Committee meetings and a report of each activity should be sent to the D&C Secretariat. These reports are uploaded onto the BRICKER TEAM SITE.

Informal presentations based on published papers do not need approval. For papers and presentations given in a language other than English, it is advisable to provide an abstract in English although this is not formal requirement.
The publication material must be stored on the project TEAM SITE (i.e. “Full Paper” version and presentation material).
BRICKER project members visiting a conference, an external workshop, an exhibition or the like in the context of the project are encouraged to provide the partners with a trip report (approx. half a page) providing information on the event itself (when, where, what, number and profile of the attendees, relevance for BRICKER) and feedback from the presentation and the potential outcome of contacts.

4 Results of Dissemination and Communication Actions
The results of the BRICKER dissemination and communication actions are presented here below in quantitative terms concerning publications, web site, newsletters, and participation in events. More qualitative and quantitative results will be added to the D&C plan..
At the beginning of Chapter 4, in Section 4.1 below, a table summarises the dissemination and communication goals of BRICKER using various indicators. The tools deployed in BRICKER are assessed on a yearly basis, by checking the indicator values and comparing with the goal set for the whole duration of BRICKER.
In this third version of the D&C plan, which reports about the actions for M1-‐M29, data focuses on web site use, LinkedIn company page, outreach and uptake of publications (articles, press releases, interviews), and participation in events with contributions and for raising awareness about BRICKER..
4.1 Summary of the main Dissemination and Communication results to date
Web site
The BRICKER website has been in operation since February 2014. In total, there have been 33,282 hits (page views), and 7,236 visitors or users. These first two years have seen roughly the same level of views as each other, with an overall increase. Over half of the visits come from organic search results that are listings on search engine results pages appearing because of their relevance to the search terms. Around 15% of the page views took place on the mobile version.
Publications (press releases, articles and interviews)
Since the beginning of the project, some 70 items have been published, the majority of which via the BRICKER website. Press releases, articles and interviews have also been published using other channels. These other channels are provincial newsletters, local TV channels as well as communications at conferences and via partners’ websites. English is the main language of communication followed in order by Spanish, German, French and Turkish.
Outreach of press releases, articles and interviews
BRICKER uses a number of different channels to produce a multiplication effect for its publications. Since the start of the project, key websites have been used in this respect with

significant results. For example we have recorded for the Build Up website a total of 73,116 visits, averaging at 3,656 per publication. For the phys.org website, the total was 39,480 visits, averaging at 2,820. The less specialised Alpha Galileo website had 9,246 visits for our publications, averaging at 462. Social media is also important to our dissemination and communication activities. For the last 12 months, we have reported a social media reach of 268,895 impressions in total, averaging at 53,779 per news item published.
Use and outreach of BRICKER LinkedIn company page
The BRICKER company page on LinkedIn was launched in March 2015. One year later the page had 62 followers. To date, the 35 posts that have been made have received 11 791 impressions.
Participation in events and raising awareness
To date, the consortium partners have reported involvement in 99 events altogether, which are relevant in some way to the endeavours of BRICKER. These events range from large trade fairs to specific seminars on policy or technology for example. Of these 99 events, partners have reported communication about BRICKER at 66 events. This takes various forms including, flyers, Power point presentations, and print media at stands. Furthermore, there have been 14 contributions by partners to congresses, scientific conferences and workshops in line with BRICKER areas of interest and input. This figure has exceeded the project target of 10 such events.

4.4 Publications (press releases, articles, interviews)
Publications about BRICKER take the form of articles and interviews, press releases in specific sector publications, contributions in Newsletters and publications on partners’ web sites. Most of the publications are distributed online. One news piece, about the first General Assembly and visit of the demo building in Cáceres, was produced by and distributed on the Extremadura News of Spanish RTVE channel with 3 minutes of images, voice over and interviews in Spanish.
The aim of the publications in M1-‐M18 was mainly to inform about the start of and the participation in the project, to raise awareness about BRICKER, it’s demo sites, technologies and approach, and to keep various audiences informed about the progress of the project.
In Section 4.3.1, the publications by BRICKER partners are presented by partner and chronologically for M1 to M29. The type, channel and title of the publication, the targeted audience, language of the publication, and online source are listed in for each publication. In total 70 items have been published since the start of the project.
In Section 4.3.2, an overview of the outreach of the publications (articles, interviews and press releases) made by the BRICKER D&C Secretariat via the BRICKER web site is given.
Section 4.3.3 lists the take-‐ups of the D&C Secretariat publications in other online media and the social web.

In the above table, the publications are ordered chronologically. The data show visits/ number of visitors to the different channels. The number of visits and unique visitors to both, the youris.com web site27 and the BRICKER web site28, are shown. The lower totals on youris.com web site as compared to BRICKER web site are related to the fact that press releases are not distributed via the youris.com web site due to the policy of the site. youris.com is an independent non-‐profit media agency promoting leading-‐edge European innovation via TV media and the web. The site is not news agency publishing institutional information about research.
All figures provided in the table above cover the period from the publication date of an article, interview, and press release until end of February 2016 when the tracking was done. The data concerning Facebook and Twitter indicate outreach achieved through the respective youris.com accounts. They also show the potential for reaching out through social media. The data concerning Alphagalileo, Phys.org29 and CordisWire30 represented weighted estimations for visits to the respective publications on these online news services. The owners of the sites have provided the weighing factors. The figures given for AlphaGalileo31 BuildUp32 and Construction2133 represent the number of visits to the BRICKER articles and interviews published on these sites. The Twitter External Outreach (TWEO) figures represent the sum of followers to the Twitter accounts of all channels listed in the table above. TWEO has been recorded with the RADIAN tool until March 2015. Since April 2014, a new state-‐of-‐the-‐ art tracking tool is used called NUVI 34. With NUVI, data on REACH across the social web are reported.
