Direct (Scope 1) emissions: emissions
within your company’s organizational boundary
from sources that your company owns or
controls, like the combustion of fuel in the
company’s furnaces
Scope 2: purchased electricity, steam,
heating and cooling. Energy at a power plant is
not owned or controlled by your company,
therefore these are indirect emissions
Indirect (Scope 3) emissions: related to
your company’s activities but come from
sources owned or controlled by another
company

Water insecurity - the case for action
UN predicts a 40% global shortfall in water supply by 2030;
Excessive loads of nitrogen and phosphate, from agriculture,
industrial production and mining, are degrading the quality of
the water we have left; and
NASA reports groundwater is being depleted to the point
where regional water availability is threatened.
The World Bank reports water availability in cities will
reduce by as much as two thirds by 2050 due to climate
change and competition from energy production and
agriculture.

Forests provide key ecosystem services
Tropical forests only cover 7% of land area, but
account for half of terrestrial biodiversity;
Filtration & water storage provided by forests
supply 75% of accessible freshwater;
At least one third of the world’s largest cities
rely on protected forest areas for water supplies;
