1:20 - 2:50 pm THE NEUROSCIENCE OF DECISION-MAKING IN LEADERSHIP AND THE PRACTICE OF LAW (1.5 hours Elimination of Bias Credit) (Auditorium)

In this interactive course participants will explore research in neuroscience showing how brain imaging and decision-making studies are used to explain how we determine credibility, competence, threat and intelligence in a diverse society. The course will show how hiring, promotion, assignments and mentoring can be affected by neurophysiologic processes and unconscious reactions. Brain imaging will be used to explain how we pursue strategies, collaborate, negotiate and create meaningful solutions. The course will identify ways to increase fairness guided by science.

GROUP ROOM RATES:The State Bar has reserved a block of rooms at the Parc 55 Wyndham Hotel Union Square at the rate of $229.00 plus applicable state and local taxes of 16.33% (which are subject to change). An additional fee of $20.00 will be charged per person for triple & quadruple occupancy. Rollaway beds can be added to single-bedded rooms at a $20.00 charge, but are limited to stock on hand. Owing to local fire codes, the hotel cannot permit more than four adults and two beds, including rollaways, per Guest Room.

METHOD OF RESERVATIONS:Attendees should make reservations for the Event directly with Hotel Reservations through the online link at http://tinyurl.com/qjx9xjy or by calling 1-888-228-1952. Attendees should refer to the State Bar of California Legal Services Room Block in order to receive the Group Rate. In order to expedite check-in, all reservations must include the following information:

• Arrival and departure dates; • Estimated time of arrival; • Room preference (single or double/double); • Credit card information, including expiration date, for

reservation guarantee.

Check-In Time: 3:00 pm, Check-out Time: 12 Noon

All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit, or guaranteed with a major credit card. Hotel will not make any reservations unless secured by one of the above methods.

INDIVIDUAL CANCELLATION:Individual cancellations must be made at least 72 hours prior to the individual’s scheduled date of arrival, in order to avoid a no-show charge. All no-show charges will be billed directly to the individual attendee’s credit card, in the amount of one night’s room and tax at the applicable Group Rate.

RESERVATION CUT-OFF DATE:Reservations for attendees must be received on or before Wednesday, October 1, 2014 (“Cut-Off Date”).
