Responding to the felicitation, Rtn. PP Rambasappa compared Chartering a Rotary Club to planting a seed, - how we select the best seed, manure it, water it and take care of it – so is a Rotarian and a Rotary Club; -sincerity, honesty, hard work are the hall marks of Rotary Vijayapura, he revealed.

Rtn. PP Santosh Nedungadi, Charter President of Rotary Bangalore Cantonment felt happy for having been remembered and recognized and wished the best for Down -Town in the Silver Jubilee year.

Charter presidents get a keep sake picture with District and DownTown leaders. Do not miss those lamps lit by charter presidents

If you were not there you missed to meet up with Ustad, Romeo, Krishna, Machhli, Laila, and Zalim, themighty Tigers of Ranathambore and the loss is entirely yours.

A Rotarian for the past 30 years, PP Rtn. Gopinath is an architect by profession, well known for his designs andis also an accomplished wildlife photographer. He has visited all the Tiger Reserves of India like Bandhavgarh, Bandipur, Nagarahole, Kabini and Ranathambore and has already made 12 trips to these Reserves. Recently he visited Ranathambore National Park which has an area of 392 sq. km, about 180 km from Jaipur and is home to a variety of flora and fauna and the mighty Indian Tigers.

Tigers are loners, never live in groups and are rarely seen; no two tigers have identical stripes. They mark their territory, usually about 20-25 sq km and guard it fiercely. They rub their sweat glands to the trees and spray their urine on trees as high as possible to caution other tigers from encroaching upon their territory. The female tiger nurses the cubs for six months, trains them in hunting to become independent by 18 months. They merge well with the surroundings. An adult tiger weighs about 350-400 Kgsand leaps about 33 ft. They live for about 22 yrs on an average and the oldest recorded is 26 years.

The photos were breathtaking and came to life in vivid colours; the accompanying photos of a large variety of birds was a sight to behold.

SEPTEMBER – New Generation Month

‚Our vision for the future, now more than ever, is the difference between success and failure. The New Generations are our investment in the future. Let us begin to build that future today.‛ PRIP Vincente Giay

Rotary Bangalore DownTown has believed in working with the youth. DownTown has held many meaningful activity combining fun with learning and exposure. Above all, there is an inclusive approach, always

Tree Census of Cubbon Park : First time a tree census was taken up in Cubbon Park involving 1500 higher secondary school students from different schools, high end to

b Government schools, borstal schools to corporation schools. The process was that the students tied a number on the tree with a long string. It was most amusing but big learning behind it as 4-5 young ones trying to cover the girth of large tree. Big learning for them. All of them walked to Vidhana Soudha held placards which read ‚save Tree‛, ‘’ Save Lung Space‛, the leaders submitted a memorandum to the Environment Minister to take care of every tree. They warned the Government ‚We have counted every tree almost 6500, even if one tree goes missing we

will know. Kindly ensure every tree is safe‛. Every media carried pictures and big coverage. The Hindu almost had carried 3 column photo with a big write up. (Madhura Chatrapathy)

Integrated Kite Flying : Physically and Visually challenged along with normal young people participated in a big kite flying event. To the visually challengedif someone helped launch their kite it was they who got the thrill of holding the string and letting it go as the kites soared. Those in the wheel chair enjoyed the flying kite for the first time. This was in Kanteerava Stadium. They sky was riot of colours which was captured by Door Darshan , was used as a signature tune city round for a long time. Print media carried 3-4 column picture. (Srikanth Chatrapathy)

Splash into swimming pool for visually challenged : An unforgettable experience for the visually challenged, as they are seldom taken near the water . There was a swimmer with every child , letting him or her to splash in the water. They young people had thrill of their life. It was held at Basavangudi Aquatic Centre.( Revathi Venkatraman)

Friends InDeed : This Directory of services for those in need, was a fore runner for such directories with added value of Rotaractors of Rotaract Club of Bangalore DownTown playing an active role in collection of data from different NGOs on the service they offered and support they needed, after a visit to their set up. This also provided an opportunity for Rotaractors for an exposure to other NGOs and their activities. Rotaract received Rs. 50 per entry, with about 200 entries and they rewarded with Rs. 10,000 for their projects. It would not be a tall claim if it is said Bangalore Cares is an out come of this publication of DownTown.

A very dynamic community based Rotaract was Rotaract Club of Down -Town, which produced 5 DRRs. These Rotaractors actively participated and supported Rotary activities . Some of whom are active Rotarians now.

An institution based active Rotaract is Rotaract Club of CMRIMS . Being institution based continuity and studies pose a challenge.

Interact Clubs do get involved with projects enthusiastically, once they get the support and guidance. There are two of them, one at Interact Club Kendriya Vidyalaya, Indian Institute of Science, and the other at Interact Club Kendriya Vidyalaya Hebbal.

RYLA is regular feature of youth service activities, both residential and non- residential RYLAs are held. For a long time RYLA was the prerogative of PP Babu Kumar. Rotaractors lend a hand always.

World needs Rotary and Rotary Needs You

by Rtn. Pres.Ramkumar Sheshu6.8.2014 Jt. Meeting with Rotary Bangalore High Grounds &

Rotary Bangalore Rajajinagar

Rtn. Pres. Ramkumar Sheshu, actively involved in leadership training initiatives through Bornto Win, has trained more thanone lakh persons in largecorporations, governments, NGOs, etc.

World needs Rotary today more than ever because of issues like illiteracy, corruption, law and order; atrocities on women etc. and to bring about a change in the society. Though India has progressed substantially over the previous 2-3 generations, Indians have not as seen from a large portion of the country’s population is still below poverty line. Elders hugely acknowledge that there has been a sea change and we are far far better off today than one or two generations earlier

Compared to 1980s to 90s, there is tremendous improvement today; life has become more comfortable; we have phones, car, clothes, home, mobiles, good schools for children; our life has improved a lot; but it is not the case with India; as a nation we are worse off today than in 80-90s. It is a paradox that as individuals we are better off but the country is worse off as people.

Nearly 15-16% of India is ruled by Maoists today who believe in violence, which is the grim reality. Why is it so even though our life has become better but young people are not part of it; what is happening to this country. Hence, today than at any time in history, world needs Rotary.

Rotary teaches ownership; Four way test is all about teaching how to share ; Taking pride in what we do;Because of this world needs Rotary

Rotary needs You because we are still 1.2 million today compared to the same number 20 years ago. This clearly indicates that while the world had moved on, Rotary has remained stagnant. Someone has introduced us and invited us to join rotary but we do not share it with others; Rotary needs to reach out to people and tell people what Rotary is doing; We need to tell the world; we need to speak about Rotary; about what it is doing to the society. We should speak to every school and college that we are connected with, talk about 4way test and instill values in them.

For too long we have been telling facts but we are not sharing stories on how millions of lives got changed; facts don’t sell, it is the stories that sell; Rotary needs you to spread this message, he added.

Youth begins with that questioning ‘Y’ and ends with ‘uth’, the last letters of truth. The quest for truth and zest for life YOUTH is an envious age. The under-twenty fivers make more than one half of the world’s population. These eager beavers need something to know, something to work on, something to achieve not forgetting, something to enjoy and have fun. Above all, to be accepted as capable adult person.

Young people could be liken to a kite , zestful reaching for the stars. It symbolizes also the delicate relationship between the parent and the young, like the kite and the string . It is like the string that really launches the kite and keeps it flying high. Yet if the string is taut the kite starts somersaulting and if it is slack, it just drops down.
