A simple primary block derived from this lower Manhattan site is used to create choreographed spacial qualities in plan and section. The primary is manipulated in stages and hierarchi-cally deployed on the site, populating the two street facing edges and creating a courtyard condition.
As one moves from a sub-grade archive space through public/ private book stacks and reading areas, the move from plain and ordinary to angular and complex becomes increasingly clear. Fluid movement through this library is created though the inter-stitial connections of one primary block to another, and the geometric change from one level to the next.
This Library for the Graphic Novel seeks to introduce the primary block as an architectural tool to better understand and interrogate the nature of the books/information it seeks to shelter. The graphic novel is closely related to a comic book yet it is able to communicate very complex ideas and feelings like the classic novel. The primary block too is simple yet complex, humorous yet serious. In this way we can seek to reinterpret a new design concept.

A Performing Arts Center, Miami Beach, Florida
Classic Theatre: 800 seatsMulti-Form Theatre: 600 seatsExperimental Theatre: 400 seats
Letting three theatres loose in a South Beach park is no small feet. The relationship of these three masses to each other as well as site context, must be considered carefully.
After careful study of Jean Nouvel s Paris Philharmonie we de-vised a method in which our theatres became encased in layers of circulation and program. This helped us highlight the quali-ties which are important to our scheme. Allow for free and open access using the building as a gateway to the park. Shared mobius circulation and lobby spaces result.
The use of a layered strategy afford greater control of the light which is allowed to enter the building. Light is filtered through scoopes in the facade, it then penetrates deeper through holes in the midskin. The theatre shell does not let light pass and cre-ates a quality controlled theatre interior.

Nestled in a Chicago neighborhood which is rapidly becoming a yupi paradise. This project is a modular housing scheme developed using a perimeter block. Two different modules containing four units were developed and placed around this block to allow adequate light and air to reach the occupants. Parking is placed at ground level and covered with a mound which becomes a social gathering space and anchorages playful interaction. This complex would hold a coffee shop, gym and flex space which would serve as useful amenities for all occupants. The south facing units, are studio and one bedroom spaces which would accommodate the UIC student population which is found in this area.

Design Develop-ment Miami Theatre Fall 2011DD
-
In this group project an underdeveloped scheme was taken from schematic design phases through design development. This process introduced us to many of the basic issues which an architect must be aware of as he or she works through a project.
