Imagine yoursel in the idyllic French countryside; it is the early-20th century. Sometimebeore dark, a gypsy caravan sets up camp in an unused eld outside o town. The localsnd themselves drawn to the scene, knowing that these visitors are always good or anevenings entertainment.

What they nd is an impromptu screening o rare silent lms, perhaps thrown on the

side o a barn by a battered old projector. As the images ficker to lie beneath the stars, gypsy musicians play their instruments, matching every scene with characteristic virtuosity, passion and humor.Reviving this lost tradition, The Hot Club o San Francisco, an ensemble o musicianscelebrating the music o Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, presents SilentSurrealism, an evening o silent lms accompanied live by the groups original gypsy jazzscores. November 14 2 p.m.Black Box Theatre, $12 General / $10 EIU Employees & Seniors (62+) / $5 Students

From the acclaimed playwright o Dancing at Lughnasa, this hauntingly lyrical play is about nothing less thanlanguage as the soul o a nation. Set in 1833 Ireland, ittells o the British armys campaign to replace the nativeGaelic with English. Against a beautiul backdrop, aBritish lieutenant sent to Anglicize the country alls inlove with an Irish girl, the language he is supposed tosuppress, and Ireland itsel.

    URINETOWNOctober 15, 16, 18, 19 7 p.m.October 17 2 p.m.The Theatre, $12 General / $10 EIU Employees & Seniors (62+) / $5 Students

One o the most uproariously unny musicalsin recent years, Urinetown is a hilarious taleo greed, corruption, love and revolutionin a time when water is worth its weight ingold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible watershortage, caused by a 20-year drought, hasled to a government-enorced ban on privatetoilets. The citizens must use public amenities,

regulated by a single malevolent companythat prots by charging admission or oneo humanitys most basic needs. Amid thepeople, a hero decides hes had enough, and

plans a revolution to lead them all to reedom! Inspired by the works oBertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satirein which no one is sae rom scrutiny.

One o the unniest plays o the 20thcentury, this classic backstage arce, complete with slamming doors, sexu-al dalliances, conusions and errantplates o sardines, ollows a haplessacting troupe during the course o adisastrous provincial tour. They provethat whatever can go wrong bothon stage and o most certainly will.

This timeless comedy by one o Francesgreatest playwrights ollows the outrageous

activities o a penniless scoundrel andreligious pretender, who insinuates himselinto the home o his gullible beneactor, wreaking havoc among the amily members.Amid the tales o seduction and blackmail, the playwright mercilessly and humorously examines the evil men can commit in theguise o religious ervor.
