HOUSE STYLE This double page spread shows the simplistic house style of Q magazine. From the use of one side of the double page spread filled entirely by the image, and the clean article appearance on the right hand side. This double page spread fits with the consistent minimalistic house style that Q magazine has. The colour scheme of this double page spread appears to be white, black, blue and red to link to Q’s main colour scheme of white, black and red. This shows consistency through out the magazine. TEXT/FONTS All the text on this double page spread taken from the magazine Q is in sans serif font. The article itself comes across as rather chatty using colloquial language. It appears rather as if the article directly engages with the reader as if it is speaking directly to them. The headline to this double page spread appears to be the name of the featured artist ‘LANA DEL RAY’ – this text is small but significant at the top of the page shown in Capital letters. The style of this headline adds to the simplicity of Q magazine as it is not too attention seeking and is plain and simple which works well with the theme. for this magazine features a full A4 photograph of the featured artist. This s to the simplistic style of the magazine as it doesn’t overpower the article by page with lots of busy images. DESIGN BALANCE The magazine features a minimalistic design layout where everything has a specific place and area. This letter could be seen as an enlarged Drop cap. This double page has 2 columns of text which are both different sizes – this is unusual as a typical double spreads have three Columns. HOUSE STYLEThis double page spread shows the simplistic house style of VIBE magazine. The colour scheme of this double page spread appears to be white, grey, black and red. The design style and layout is consistent between different copies of VIBE magazine and always features a bold splash of colour such as the red seen on this double page spread.

TEXT/FONTSA large serif font headline stating ‘USA’ has been used behind the main image, suggesting that the English singer has America behind her. This font has been made slightly translucent so not to draw attention away from the main image or article. The headline continues with a more opaque ‘got the love’ in a sans serif font – this draws more attention to itself smartly relating to one of the artists songs ‘You Got The Love’. The article features a kicker paragraph which entices the audience to continue reading using a question – the name of the featured artist within this paragraph is also shown in a different colour (blue) to make the name stand out and draws attention to who the article is about.

IMAGERYThe image for this magazine features a large photograph of the featured artist using the rule of thirds design as she is positioned on the left hand side. The image ties in well with the colour scheme as the red hair of the model works well with the red stripes of the flag in which she id sat on – the boldness of the colour makes the image more interesting and grabs the readers attention. The model is also giving direct address which connects the audience to the featured artist.

DESIGN BALANCEThis double page spread appears rather simplistic yet bold. The size of the USA text in the background contrasts well against the smaller main body text balancing the two. Rule of thirds has also been considered when positioning the photograph of the model. This magazine follows the Gutenberg Design Principle as the reader begins looking at the model and large USA positioned in the primary optical area and the text features in the strong sallow area down into the terminal area. Also, the least important part of the double page spread is featured in the weak fallow area. The article features three columns of main body text which is a general amount of columns for a double page article – these columns are neatly aligned and are easy for the audience to read.
