Question Ideas

I previously mentioned that I was going to ask the ‘Super Fan’ 11 questions roughly that would be based on her love for Blink 182. The questions I picked were:-How long have you devoted your life to Blink 182?-Have you ever met any members?-Roughly, how much would you say you have spent on this band?-What is your favourite piece of memorabilia and why?-When was the first time you say the boys live? -How did you feel when you first saw them?-Have the band ever done anything that upset you?-If you could meet Blink 182 right now, what would you say?-How have this band inspired you on the music front?-Do you have any other favourite bands?-How do your family and friends feel about your obsession?

I asked Beth these questions and I got back some very detailed answers and I think they will be perfect for my article.

Interview Answers #1How long have you devoted your life to Blink 182?

Erm, since I was a kid really, and I first heard them when ‘All The Small Things’ was on the music channel, I saw Tom Delonge and said that I wanted to marry him, I was six. I didn’t start collecting until my early teens, I started off basic you know with just the cds and shirts, but it all kind of went skew whiff after that.Have you ever met them?Unfortunately not but it is my dream to meet them; I will stop at nothing until I have done so.Roughly, how much would you say you have spent on the band?I would say well over a thousand pounds, they are worth every penny and I don’t regret a thing. I always joke to my parents and say that at least I am spending the money on Blink and not drugs. What is your favourite piece of merch and why?I would say one of my two UK Blink flags that I got from Leeds Festival because I had to run through thousands of people in order to get them and it was a great achievement, they also sold out in ten minutes so that makes it better. I also caught Tom Delonge’s pick at a show and I treasure that on a special part on my shelf.

Interview Answers #2

When was the first time you saw the boys live?August 6th Wednesday 2014 at London Brixton Academy. It was a special one off show before Leeds Festival and I travelled six and a half hours just to be there. We queued from 5AM in the morning also. How did you feel when you first saw them?A feeling that I have never quite felt before in my life. It was a very surreal feeling to have in my opinion, the world’s most talented drummer smashing it on his drums before my very eyes and to witness the infamous toilet humour between Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge in real life was quite amazing. The feeling of the lights shining in my eyes and nearly blinding me was more than worth it and I was smothered by people’s sweaty bodies but I did not mind at all, I felt at home.Have the band ever done anything to upset you?Yes very much so, they hardly tour the UK so it is difficult to see them live in action and the low balance in my bank account makes me feel sick every time I check it. I was also very upset when the band announced that they were going into an indefinite hiatus, I still have nightmares about that day.

Interview Answers #3If you could meet Blink 182 right now, what would you say?

I would firstly thank them for giving kids who felt like outcasts a reason to shout every single swear words there is out loud and not be afraid to do so, I would also thank them for giving me a beautiful reason to spend all of my money, I would thank each member for inspiring me to be a better person and I would congratulate them on inspiring so many people because without them, half of the bands would exist. How have the band inspired you on the music front?Mark Hoppus once said in an interview that ‘I play bass because it is the easiest thing to play’ and that made me pick up my first bass and start a band. Do you have any other favourite bands?Yes I do, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Joy Division, Neck Deep, Greenday, Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce the Veil, All Time Low, My Chemical Romance (cry), A Day To Remember, The Story So Far, New Found Glory, The Wonder Years, The 1975 and Of Mice And Men, but Blink will always have the number one spot. How do your family and friends feel about your obsession? My mam is very unsupportive as she doesn’t feel I am spending my time or money accordingly and not to mention that she can’t stand the band, my dad just laughs at me and asks where I’m travelling to next week and my sister is forced to pay her way to join me. I have no friends but that doesn’t matter to me because I have music and music doesn’t have end in like friends does.

Introduction - PlanFor the simple purpose to introduce the reader to my article and

give them a more better idea of what the story is about, I am wanting to include a small introduction to set the scene that will go just before the interview starts. I am wanting to simply state who is involved, what they are involved for, where they are from, when this all started, why this is happening and how this is happening.

WHO Beth Moorby, 18

WHAT Super Fan of Blink 182, got involved through a blog post (asking for fans)

WHERE England, UK

WHEN Since early teens

WHY She loves the band

HOW Earning money then spending it straight away

My story line is that Crowd Surf Magazine posted on their blog asking for super fans of bands to contact them for a feature in the next issue, and Beth is the fan who was selected to be put in the magazine and interviewed.

Introduction -

DraftSo then, back in March us at Crowd Surf were on the hunt for fans out there who went to crazy extremes in order to show their dedication to bands within the Rock Music Genre. After endless days of searching for the one, we hit the jackpot, we found eighteen year old Beth from Hartlepool who has spent not only years devoting her life to Punk Rock Legends Blink 182, but she has also spent thousands of pounds on everything from limited edition flags to pointless crap like pin badges and stickers. Here’s what Beth told us when we asked her a few questions about her Instrument Shredding Heroes..I have used several informal elements in order to make my text appeal to my target audience and age range which are in Red. I also think that I have said enough about the story in order to not give much away but keep the reader interested. It also isn’t too long so the reader will not get bored before the reader has even got to the main part of the article and I have covered all of the areas briefly that I wanted to. I am really happy with this draft and I will be using it in my article as the introduction to the text.

Headline and Brief Description After initially coming up with several ideas for my main headline, I have decided to go with ‘Watching, Waiting, Crying and Fainting’ which is a slightly adapted lyric from the Blink 182 song ‘All The Small Things’. This is probably the most well known Blink song so if any fans were to read the magazine, this would stick out to them and would attract them possibly into wanting to read the magazine more. It also sums up my story quite well, because Beth speaks about how Blink never tour the UK very much and she portrays her passion for the band and gets quite emotional at times about the subject. I would still like to use the Photoshop technique of adding an image to text also. I want the Brief Description to be very short, so I am wanting to use something like ‘Blink 182 Die Hard Speaks Out For The First Time ‘ as this doesn’t give too much away.

QuotesTo provide the reader with more information, I would like to add a quote into my article that will in in bold letters amongst the text in order to stand out to the reader. Most magazines just take a quote from the text and use that, but to give the reader a more open view on Beth’s situation, I am going to put in a very meaningful thing that is not in the interview, but Beth did say. The quote is:

‘When you love a band so much, they become more than just people who perform and play instruments to you, they become part of your every day life’.I think that this is a good quote to use because it proves to the reader just how much Beth loves this band, and you can genuinely see that they mean a lot to her with what she says.

Extra Information Column For my Extra Information column, I will be tallying up roughly how much Beth has spent on the band over the years. The main areas of spending come from:

-Clothing Lines (Macbeth – Tom Delonge)-Merch Websites -Travelling -Gig Tickets-Buying Music

In this column, I want it to look like someone has written it down because of the nature of the content; we are adding up how much someone has spent using traditional Mathematics methods such as Column Addition. I would also like to include a small picture of the area of spending, so for example, for Macbeth, I would place a small photo of their logo.

BackgroundAs I am wanting my magazine to be quite scrapbook like, I am really interested in doodle style backgrounds. I have found some examples online and I would really like to incorporate this idea into my magazine. I think that the more detail that there is, the more the reader will be distracted however, so I am wanting to keep the doodles to a minimum, but I would like the effect to look good so some detail will be added. The doodles will be following the Rock Music Theme, so I could include guitars, music notes, band acronyms, guitar picks and more. I will be using Pink, Yellow and Blue pens as these are the colours from my colour scheme and I want it all to suit.

Background

I have come up with a background design that I created using fine liner pens and lined paper. I really like how I have stuck with my colour scheme and I think that it has just enough detail for the background as not to much is on the paper but there is enough for it to look effective. Because I haven't used a Black pen, the writing on top of this background will stand out against the light colours which will make it easier for the reader to see. Also, I will be editing this in Photoshop to lighten the image in order for whatever is placed on top of it to stand out more. This is not the final design, but thanks to this practice, I now know how to make a doodle style background look better.
