General notesThese installation and operating instructions contain all the information needed to commission and operate the dosing tank 502 listed below.If you require further information or should problems arise which are not described in detail in this manual, please contact your nearest Grundfos Alldos branch.

4. Intended purposeDosing tanks from Grundfos Alldos, series 502, are intended as supply bottles for dosing media for dosing chemicals as described in these instructions.

4.1 GuaranteeIn line with our general conditions of sale and delivery, a guarantee claim can only be recognised if:• the dosing tank was only used as described in the

corresponding instructions.

5. SafetyThese instructions contain general information which should be observed when installing and operating the dosing tank. These instructions must therefore be read with care by technicians and appropriately trained specialists/operators before installation and commissioning and must always be available at the installation site.It is not only the general safety notices described in this "Safety" section that must be observed, but all specific safety notices that are provided in the other sections too.

5.1 Identification of safety notices in this manualIf the safety notices or other information provided in these instructions are not observed, this may result in injury and the dosing tank may be damaged. Safety notices and other information are identified by the following symbols:

Information on the dosing tank must be clearly legible at all times.

5.2 Qualification and training of staffThe staff responsible for operation, inspection and installation must be suitably qualified for this work. Areas of responsibility, levels of responsibility and staff supervision must be precisely defined by the person responsible for operations.If staff do not have the necessary knowledge, they should be trained and instructed accordingly. The person responsible for operations is in charge of ensuring that the staff understand the content of these instructions.

5.3 Risks when safety notices are not observedNon-observance of the safety notices may have dangerous consequences for staff, the environment and the pump. Non-observance of the safety notices may lead to the loss of any claims for damages.Non-observance of the safety notices may lead to the following risks:• failure of important functions of the system• personal injury caused by electrical, mechanical and chemical

influences• environmental damage due to media hazardous to health

escaping.

5.4 Safety-conscious workingThe safety notices in these instructions should be observed in the same way as statutory health and safety at work guidelines and the operating and safety notices provided by the person responsible for operations.

5.5 Safety notices on inspection and installation workThe person responsible for operations must ensure that all installation and inspection work is undertaken by authorised specialists who are appropriately trained by reading these instructions.All safety and protection equipment must be put back into operation as soon as work is complete.

5.6 Unauthorised conversions and impermissible spare parts

Modifications or changes to the dosing tank are only permitted with the consent of the manufacturer. Genuine spare parts and accessories approved by the manufacturer are safe to use.Liability cannot be assumed if spare parts which are not genuine are used.

5.7 Incorrect operationThe operating safety of the dosing tank supplied is only ensured if it is used in compliance with section 6.2 Technical data. The specified limit values should on no account be exceeded.

6. Description of product and accessories

6.1 General descriptionDosing tank 502 can be used as a supply bottle for dosing media. It is compact, resistant to chemicals, simple and therefore low cost. Depending on the model, the dosing tank can be fitted with a dosing pump, suction lance and agitator to form a dosing station. The dosing tank's characteristics are detailed below:• cylindrical tank with screw cover• optimum shape for stability and functionality• 7 sizes ranging between a content of 40 and 1000 l• UV-stabilised polyethylene (PE), food safe• produced without seams in a rotation smelting process• embossed litre scale• sintered 3/4" screw socket for drainage, not drilled open• screw cover with gating for holding a standard key lock• installation space for dosing pumps and electric agitator and/

or handheld mixer, raised above the filler opening• the 75 l, 100 l and 200 l size dosing tanks have sintered

threaded bushes for installation– of dosing pump models DDI 209, DDI 222, DMI 208 and

DMX 221– of electric agitator 509.

Caution

The resistance of the parts that come into contact with media depends on the medium, media temperature and operating pressure. Ensure that parts which come into contact with media during operating conditions are resistant to the dosing medium.

6.6 Installing dosing pump and agitatorThe dosing tanks are prepared for the installation of Grundfos Alldos dosing pumps and agitators as is shown below:

7. Transport and storage

7.1 Unpacking• Retain the packaging for future storage or return, or dispose of

the packaging in accordance with local regulations.• Fit the dosing tank as soon as possible after unpacking.

7.2 StorageKeep the dosing tank in a dry, cool place.

8.2 Tightness test1. Before filling the dosing tank check whether:

– the suction line is connected, and– the optional drainage unit is fully closed.

2. Then fill the dosing tank with e.g. water and check for leaks.

11.3 PVC handheld mixerProduct number: 96295947 (520-001)• Handheld mixer, max. 1000 mm in length for mixing chemicals

in the dosing tank. The handheld mixer is suitable for 40 l - 300 l Grundfos Alldos dosing tanks.

• The length of the handheld mixer is adapted to the tank size for prefitted dosing stations before delivery. If ordered separately, the length of the handheld mixer should be adapted to the tank on site and the knob stuck on.

11.4 Electric agitatorsThe agitators 509 ensure that the dosing medium in the dosing tank is mixed constantly. The 1500 rpm agitators are suitable for dosing media with a low viscosity.Grundfos Alldos agitators are available in the following versions• 7 sizes for Grundfos Alldos dosing tanks with contents of

between 75 l and 1000 l.• Plastic version: spindle PP-coated, mixer turbine made from

PP.– The annular turbine draws in the product to be mixed axially

and discharges it radially.– For outgassing media, with a sealing flange on the motor

flange• Stainless steel version for aggressive media: spindle and

mixer propeller made from stainless steel 1.4571.• Depending on agitator size, 3-phase current and optionally

single-phase motor.For more details please refer to the instructions for the electric agitators.

CautionDo not throw or drop the dosing tank.Do not use the protective packaging as packaging for transport.

WarningThe dosing tank may only be fitted by a qualified specialist.

Caution

The dosing tank is not operated. Within the system is simply serves as a supply bottle for dosing the dosing medium. When commissioning, all the system's components must be ready for operation.Follow the installation and operating instructions for the components used.

Note The dosing tank requires no maintenance.

11.5 Side extraction device• The PVC / FKM side extraction device can only be used on

dosing tanks without a drip tray.• Please order connections for extraction pipes separately.• The lengths of the liquid riser are adapted to the dosing tank in

question if required.• Fit the extraction device in the dosing tank's coupling thread.

– Unscrew stopper – Drill open threaded hole– Screw in extraction device and seal with Teflon tape.

• Use installation material provided to secure liquid riser to tank panel.– Cut M6 thread in tank panel– Fit screw from inside through the tank panel and counter nut

and then screw into retaining ring.– Secure from outside using counter nut.

• Seal liquid riser with stopper provided.

11.7 Aeration / ventilation valve for dosing tank• When fitting the aeration / ventilation valve in the dosing tank,

note the direction indicated by the arrow on the valve. The directions for fitting are:– for ventilation valve: arrow pointing upwards (a)– for aeration valve and return: arrow pointing downwards (b)

• Produce Ø 24 hole on top of dosing tank• Attach valve with seal ring underneath and use union nut to

screw down from the opposite side.
