1 . General information

1 .3 Safety instructions and warnings The I/O module extension kit has been designed and tested in accordance with all currently applicable technical regula-tions. All safety features were in proper working order when it left the factory. The user must observe the instructions and warnings given in this installation guide to maintain proper working order and ensure risk-free operation.

• The device may only be used for the purpose intended by the manufacturer.

• Installation and assembly of electrical equipment may be carried out by a qualified electrician only.

• Before opening the unit, always switch off the power sup-ply and check that it is inactive by measuring the current.

• During installation, please ensure that the requirements laid down in the relevant equipment safety standard for the unit are adhered to since non-compliance could affect the safety of the device.

• Before switching on, ensure that the connected operating and control voltages do not exceed the permissible values specified in the technical data.

• This I/O module extension kit complies with EN 60950-1. Operating voltage 24 V/DC Protection Class III

Electromagnetic compatibility:• PCBs can be damaged by static electricity discharge, so

suitable precautionary measures such as grounding must be implemented.

The extension kit may only be operated when installed.

The locking screws on unassigned connection terminals must be screwed in as far as they will go.

If you believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, take it out of operation and secure it against accidental use.

If a unit failure or malfunction may result in injury to persons or animals, or in damage to works equipment, this must be prevented by taking additional safety measures, such as limit switches and safety devices.

General Installation Guidelines See Manual 1006G-B0

1 .1 Preface This installation manual is intended to assist you in con-necting and putting into operation a second I/O module in the B6L 4P.

1 .2 Correct use A second I/O module can be fitted into the box to increase the maximum number of doors operated by the B6L 4P from four to eight and is designed for use with this device only.Use for any other purpose than the one described is not per-mitted.

1 .5 Disposal

This I/O module extension kit has been manufactured using high-quality materials and components that can be recycled.

Information for EU countriesThis I/O module extension kit falls under the European Directive 2002/96 EC and therefore must not be disposed of with household waste. We, the manufacturer, will take back our electric and elec-tronic products and dispose of them for you free of charge. You may also contact your waste disposal company instead.

1 .6 Functional principle

The B6L 4P I/O module determines the status of doors in an access control system and controls the electricalfunctional units. This module features nine digital inputs and eight relays for this purpose, each with a non-isolated changeover contact. The status of the non-isolated digital inputs is transmitted to a higher-level control unit. The control unit evaluates sta-tuses and can operate the relays.

Communication between the I/O module and the access control unit is sent via an RS485 interface.

The B6L 4P I/O module is only available for direct installa-tion in a B6L 4P.

The I/O module features eight relays. Each relay has a 4-pin plug connector in front of the output terminal. The relay con-tacts can be connected separately from one another with two jumpers so that they are isolated (Jumper Position A) or they can be allocated an auxiliary voltage (internal supply; Jumper Position B).

You must remember that you may only connect eight low-power strikes with 150 mA power con-sumption each to ensure a 30-minute emergency power supply can be provided for the whole access control.

Maximum current per relay contact: 1 A.

Each relay context is equipped with a self-resetting thermal fuse. Inductive loads must be provided with freewheeling diodes if a DC power supply is used. When connecting an alternating current, an RC element or a voltage regulative diode (Item no. 1900001662276) must be used in place of a freewheeling diode for interference suppression.

2 .3 Inputs 2 .3 .1 Digital inputsThe I/O module has nine optocoupler inputs (negative switching). The contact load is a maximum of 10 mA.

The inputs must not be supplied with an external voltage.

2 .3 .2 Tampering input The tampering input on the extension I/O module is not used. No electrical connections need to be made.
