Dear Parents and Talmidim, We are thrilled to welcome you to our upcoming school year. Much is being planned and organized so that this year will be the most academically rewarding and spiritually in-spiring in your Yeshiva career. I have taken the liberty to help outline the various policies and procedures that drive our very special dorm to life for our out-of-town talmidim. Much thought has gone into this and I welcome your comments and feedback. My goals and objectives are to help each of you– our high school dorm Talmidim– reach your maximum potential by providing whatever support that may be deemed necessary and help-ful. Enjoy the remainder of your summer. Warmest wishes, Rabbi Yosef Deitsch Dormitory Mashgiach Email: [email protected] Cell:347-813-2065

On Shabbosim that dorm students are allowed to be away from Yeshiva for the entire Shabbos, students are required to return to Yeshiva within 1 hour after Shabbos ends.

All Shabbos plans are expected to be cleared before 9 AM Thursday morning.

The Yeshiva encourages all students to participate in our Motzei Shabbos program at the JCC.

TECHNOLOGY

Students may not bring a computer to Yeshiva. The computers in the school’s library are available for student use.

Any device with Internet or video capability is not allowed.

Media/MP3 players are allowed if they are only capable of playing music and storing data. There are devices on the market that are relatively inexpensive that have this feature. (SANDISK and certain IPOD nanos, just to mention a few). Multimedia devices that are able to play video images of any kind are not allowed.

Jewish and classical music are the only types of music

permitted. All secular music is not permitted. Headphones are not permitted.

YESHIVA PROPERTY

While we encourage our Talmidim to feel “at home” in the Yeshiva, Yeshiva property is ממון הקדש and needs to be respected. Damage to school property will have to be repaired and reimbursed.

RECREATION

The Yeshiva is happy to provide the following recreational items for use during non-school hours:

Basketball courts

An exercise room stocked with modern state-of-the-art Equipment such as treadmills, stationery bikes, weights, etc.

Student lounge equipped with ping pong table

A lending library featuring Artscroll books and novels

An X-Box game room which is available after night seder Additionally, the Yeshiva will once again be offering its Motzei Shabbos JCC program available exclusively to our high school and Bais Medrash students. The facility is equipped with regulation size basketball court, football fields, and exercise equipment. At times, the Olympic size swimming pool is available as well. The cost of this program is $185 per school year. Transportation and pizza are provided. This program is administrated by Rabbi Reuvain Becker, our Director of Student Affairs and Athletics. For questions

regarding this program, please contact Rabbi Becker at [email protected].

SHABBOS

Shabbos is an important part of Yeshiva life. Spending Shabbos together with Rabbeim and chaveirim is truly a special experience, as the Kedushas Shabbos blends with the Sidrei HaYeshiva to form a unique and unforgettable ruach. Generally speaking, the Yeshiva runs on a three-week Shabbos cycle,

with the first two Shabbosim being “in” and the third Shabbos being “out”. The Dorm Mashgiach will monitor and help coordinate any Shabbos meals eaten out of the Yeshiva. The majority of our Rebbeim and students live within walking distance of the Yeshiva and those are the homes in which the boys will be placed.

CELL PHONES

The Yeshiva provides phones for all dormitory students through the t-mobile network. No other phones are permitted. To order your phone, please go to ytcteam.org/hsphone.

The plan provides voice service only. Headphones are not permitted.

Cell phones may only be used after Ma’ariv until high school curfew time.

DORMITORY

Baruch Hashem, our Yeshiva boasts beautiful and spacious dormitories which are fully equipped to meet the needs of the Talmidim. We make every effort to ensure that the dormitories are both physically comfortable and spiritually appropriate for young aspiring B’nai Torah. To achieve this goal, we ask each Talmid to cooperate with the following policies: Only current Dorm Students of our Yeshiva are allowed to

be in the dormitory. Arrangements for any guests must be made in advance with the Hanhalla. Otherwise, no one is permitted to stay or even visit the dormitory.

Every Talmid is expected to act in a responsible and

considerate manner towards other dorm residents. This includes avoiding disturbances late at night.

Talmidim will be expected to keep their personal areas and items neat and clean. Beds must be made daily. In order for the custodians to be able to clean properly, items cannot be left strewn about. Please be aware that the custodial staff is authorized to discard items as they deem necessary.

Talmidim may only occupy their assigned room, and furniture must remain as is, unless permission is requested from dorm mashgiach. Please report any maintenance problems or repairs which may be needed.

Due to the difficulty in finding appropriate secular reading

material nowadays, the students should access reading material available to them through the Yeshiva Media Center and Lending Library. Due to the great sensitivity involved in this matter, only appropriate materials are allowed on campus. The Yeshiva does allow “haimishe” Jewish periodicals (Mishpacha, Yated Ne’eman, Hamodia etc.) onto the premises. Anyone wishing to have a subscription of these periodicals sent to the yeshiva, may do so.

Food may be kept in the dormitory in closed containers only. No cooking or other food preparation is permitted in the dorm due to fire regulations and hygiene consideration.

It is highly recommended that each Talmid bring an alarm clock with him to the Yeshiva to enable him to attend all Tefillos and classes on time.

In order to maintain a ruach which is appropriate for Bnai Torah, the Yeshiva has instituted a basic tzniyus code in the dormitory. This will be announced at the orientation at the beginning of the school year.

LAUNDRY

Our dormitory is equipped with coin-operated washers and dryers. These will be available for use after conclusion of the school day.

Additionally, the Yeshiva can help make arrangements with a local dry cleaners for laundry/dry cleaning service.

MEDICAL

The Yeshiva uses Dr. Richard Bennett, a very well respected and highly recommended pediatrician. who practices out of Pediatric Associates of Skylake. In addition to completing your sons’s medical portfolio on the health portal as part of the registration process (which includes complete insurance information, and signing the Routine Care Agreement) Dr. Bennett requires a copy of your son’s medical history and Immunizations form. Please contact your physician and have this information sent to: Dr. Richard Bennett / Pediatric Associates, 1610 NE Miami Gardens Drive, North Miami Beach, FL 33179. Please contact his office directly at 305-940-6016 if you have any questions. High School dorm students and families new to Florida have an extension of up to 30 days from the first day of school to submit their immunization records on Florida forms. If you have not successfully contacted Dr. Bennett’s office, appointments can be made with the Florida Board of Health for those who do not yet have a Florida doctor or insurance coverage (305-575-3800, Immunization Health Department). Bear in mind that the Yomim Tovim fall during the first month of school so there isn’t a lot of time to get those forms, even with the extension. Please take care of these arrangements at the earliest opportunity.

OFF CAMPUS Students, who wish to go off campus, may leave the

campus with express permission from the Dormitory Mashgiach.
