Announcements

Christian Giving

Wise pilgrims on the Christian journey know well that when Christ is central in their giving, Christ will be central in their living. The following parable by American author Bruce Barton

has served many Christians as a guidepost for giving and living: “There are two seas in Palestine. One is fresh, and fish are in it. Splashes of green adorn its banks. Trees spread

their branches over it and stretch out their thirsty roots to sip of its healing waters. The Sea of Galilee receives but does not keep the Jordan River. For every drop that flows into it another drop flows out. The giving and receiving go on in equal measure. The other sea is shrewd, hoarding its income jealously. It will not be tempted into any generous impulse. Every drop that it receives it greedily keeps. The Sea of Galilee gives and lives. The other sea gives

nothing; it is called The Dead Sea.”

It’s that time of year again: St Paul's begins its 15th year serving as the Church of the Month in November for the Oncology Unit at Holston Valley Medical Center. The purpose of this program is to “adopt” the oncology patients and their families on W-3 to help meet their special needs. Many of our parishioners volunteer to spend time with patients visiting or reading, leading prayers and offering a welcome smile during a difficult time. Two special

events are also undertaken: we will serve an early Thanksgiving dinner to the patients, their families and the staff on Thursday, November 12th and the Sunday School classes, families

and interested adults will serenade the unit on Sunday morning, November 15th. We need a BIG group of St Paul’s volunteers to undertake this worthy project. If you can’t join us, send

up a prayer for the patients, staff and families and for our work in November.

Contact Karen Mills (378-4207) or [email protected] if you are interested.

A Terrific Picnic!

The weather was perfect and the turnout great for our Stewardship Picnic on the Lawn! We enjoyed many creative salads and heard some uplifting summaries of our
