Year 2
Learning at home
Week commencing 20th
April 2020
Hello everybody,
We hope you have all had a good Easter break and managed to have some fun in the
garden and see all the signs of nature on your daily walks. We are so proud of you
doing the right thing and keeping safe and working hard! Here is the work we have
set for this week.
Look after yourselves.
P.E.
Don’t forget to keep fit with Joe Wicks every morning. Go onto the website and type in
Joe Wicks live workout. It’s definitely a workout!
PHSCE
This week we would like you to make an information book about the important medical
staff who are allowed to give you medicine. Your information book might include your
GP, pharmacist, ambulance workers and nurses. Can you think of any more medical
professionals? You will need to draw the medical professional, label any equipment you
might draw alongside them, explain where they work, how they help people and what
type of medication they might prescribe to people. Here’s a word mat to help. You can
add your own words to it too.

Maths – Monday 20th April 2020
Maths Blast! Don’t forget to draw your maths
Write a number in the box to
make this correct
37 + 10 + 13 =
What is the missing number?
62 - 13 =
Write the answer
= 9 x 10 + 5
What is half of 22?
Pictograms
We can create a pictogram using the information from a tally chart. By using the
tally marks we can draw picture to represent them.
Some pictograms use one image BUT it is worth more. See the example below.
In this pictogram the quantity of one book is worth 5 books. Use the information to
complete the pictogram.
Maths – Tuesday 21st April 2020

If you have completed all your maths learning this week try these:
Practice writing all the
number bonds to 10 and 20.
Can you see a pattern?
Could you use number bonds
up to 100? E.g. 10 + 90 = 100
Keep going onto the
Times Table Rock Stars
website. Let’s rock those
2, 5, and 10 times tables!
Become a maths
wizard! – challenge
your family. Who
has scored the most
points? Start at a number
between 0 and 100 and
count back in 2’s, 5’s and
10’s
Did you use a number
line?
If you want more! Then you can always go
online. There are lots of websites that
provide FREE dot to dots and Sudoku
puzzles.
There is also the website
www.topmarks.co.uk/hitthebutton
Create your own
pictogram. It could be
how many pieces of
fruit you have eaten
this week or how
many different toys
you have?
Handwriting
Keep practicing your handwriting. Remember to form your letters with a clear lead in
and out. Please see below for an example. Your writing needs to be neatly presented
and clear to the reader all the time.

Phonics – Spelling Shed
Use Spelling Shed www.spellingshed.co.uk (username – child’s full name/password
123456, which you can change once you log in) and work through the activities. Don’t
forget to always concentrate on your handwriting so your letter formation is clear and
neatly presented. As an extension activity you could make your own dictionary by
writing a definition for each of the words you are spelling! Don’t forget a dictionary
needs to be in alphabetical order.
You will also find common exception words on our website. You must be able to spell
these words correctly by the end of Year 2. Please practice these too!
You might also want to play some games too. Go to www.phonicsplay.co.uk
Why don’t you create your own word search using the spellings you have learnt this
week? Here’s a blank word search template for you to try your own.
s m I l e
Just place the letters of the words into the blank boxes. Don’t fill them all up with
words. Choose 10 words and then fill the other blank boxes with letters from the
alphabet. Write the words you would like your family members to find underneath.
smile
You could also play
Hangman
Countdown – choose consonants and vowels and see how many words you can
write
Noughts and crosses using two of the words you have spelt
Learning Challenge – George’s marvellous garden and play area
After our visit to St Ives play area we designed our own play equipment for George.
We thought carefully about the materials we would use too. Let’s create a beautiful
garden area and play area for George.
Think about
What play equipment will you have in the play area?
What materials will your play equipment be made from?
Will you have trees in your garden and play area? What type of trees will you
plant? Will they be fruit trees, deciduous trees or evergreen trees?
Will you have flowers and plants in your garden?
How will you encourage insects, bees, butterflies and birds into the garden and
play area?
Will you have bird feeders, bird boxes or mini-beast homes in your garden?
Will you have a pond?
Ideas Materials I will use
Draw your marvellous garden and play-area for George and explain what you have
put into his play-area and garden, why and what materials you have used.

Extract from “The Enchanted Wood” by Enid Blyton
There was once three children, called Joe, Beth and Frannie. All their lives they had
lived in a town, but now their father had a job in the country, so they were all to
move as soon as they possibly could. The train whistled, and chuffed out of the
station. The children pressed their noses on the window and watched the dirty
houses and chimneys race by. They arrived at last at the tiny station where they
were to get out. A sleepy-looking porter put their bags on a trolley, and said he
would bring them along later. Off they all went down the winding country lane,
chattering loudly.

At last they got there – and dear me, it was worth all the walk, for the cottage was
sweet. Roses hung from the walls – red and white and pink – and honeysuckle was
all around the front door. It was lovely!
What fun it was to wake up in the morning and see the sun shining in at strange
windows! It didn’t take Joe, Beth and Frannie very long to dress. Then they were out
in the little garden, running through the grass that had grown so long, and smelling
the roses that grew all around.

That day everyone helped to get the little house straight and tidy. Father was going
to work the next day. Mother hoped there would be someone to give her washing to
do, then she would make enough money to buy a few hens. That would be lovely!
The three children explored all round about. They ran across a field where pink
clover was full of bees. They paddled in a small brown stream that chattered away
to itself under the willow trees in the sunshine. And then they suddenly came to the
wood. It looked quite an ordinary wood, except that the trees were a darker green
than usual.
