As Chairman of the Board of our wonderful Cleveland Pops Orchestra, I want to thank you for attending our virtual benefit. It has been a lot of work to set up this

event in the streaming medium for our staff and the musicians involved. I hope and trust you enjoy a chance to hear and see Carl Topilow, our maestro, our

guest vocalist Evelyn Wright, and the terrific Cleveland Pops Jazz Ensemble. Most importantly, I want to express our entire Board and Orchestra’s appreciation for

your support of the Pops by sponsoring or attending the benefit. We all look forward to when we can return to hear the full Orchestra in Severance Hall in the

not too distant future. Your continued support makes that possible! In the meantime, enjoy our virtual evening together.

This year Carl Topilow will be celebrating his 25th season as Music Director and Founding Conductor of Cleveland Pops Orchestra. His eclectic programs, including the music of Broadway, Hollywood, jazz, rock, and light classics, have been critically acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. Topilow enjoys a dual career as both conductor and clarinetist, usually finding an occasion to perform a selection with the Pops on one of his brightly colored clarinets.

Carl is also Conductor of the National Repertory Orchestra, a summer festival in Breckenridge, Colorado and the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, based in Sandusky, OH. He has served as principal pops conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Mansfield Symphony Orchestra.

Topilow has performed as guest conductor with 125 different orchestras in 37 states and 12 foreign countries. His travels this past season took him to the Allentown Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Florida Lakes Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, and Lake Charles Symphony.

Recently named Faculty Emeritus after 37 years as Conductor and Director of the Orchestral Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Topilow continued as principal instructor of the master's program in orchestral conducting for two additional years

Topilow's wife Shirley is the President and CEO of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. Their daughter Jenny is a violinist with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Their daughter Emily is a recent graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she majored in psychology, minored in marketing, and played in the BGSU Symphony Orchestra.

The Cleveland Pops Orchestra will be back—

we are only on pause!

Tonight, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra is presenting a gala like none other, live from our backyard! We are all about live music, and although you are seeing this on your computer or other device, we are indeed live.

Thank you for the generosity of all our wonderful sponsors and patrons whose passion for our music has given us the assurance that we will return to perform as soon as it safe.

Thank to our Cleveland Pops Jazz Ensemble, composed of extraordinary musicians who are delighted to be back together again to play for you.

We know that it will be a special day when we are back together again in Severance Hall and around Northeast Ohio to perform the music that you love. Until then, stay well and safe, and we look forward to seeing you at the Pops!
