Residential architectural lighting project for Massimo Vitali For Massimo Vitali’s new private home in Lucca (Domus Vitali Klein) a 14th-century deconsecrated church converted into an open space villa - Rada Markovic Lighting Design Studio developed a project offering an optimal balance between lighting efficiency and energy cost-effectiveness, using LED technology driven by a smart lighting control system.

PAD (Le poème de l’angle droit) / Artemide

Ultra-flat power source (8mm height): high efficiency and extraordinary versatile power input from 100/240v, 50/60 Hz.Optimized thermal management: passive cooling system based on the extension of aluminium surface and partition of the LED sources PAD 12 LED 13W 2 beam angles: 2x6° 880lm and 2x12° 880lm. Colour tem-perature: neutral white (4000K) - CRI=80 (typ.). Innovative aluminium joint: compact dimensions and maximum flexability: 358° ro-tation and 180° tilt angle 2 sizes and power: PAD (12LED-13W total load, 85mm x 170mm x 16mm). Installation option: wall/ceiling mounted version. Materials: body in extruded aluminium, trans-parent cover in polycarbonate, translucent cover in polycarbonate, joint in die-cast alu-minium. Vertical orientation up to vaulted ceiling with multi-colored layers, in particular blue.

It features diffused indirect lighting that utilizes 134W 4000K LED strips mounted above individual support rods , a system that is extremely slim, flexible, powerful and easily customizable, but at the same time sustainable.

Rada Markovic lighting design studio created this lighting solution to optimize visibility and interaction between living and sleeping areas: architectural lighting and light art from the perspective of an inspirational symbiosis.

‘‘The bedroom sits on a free-standing wooden cube that has a bathroom, a pantry and alaundry room. The mural behind the bed says: ‘‘Believe. Obey. Fight.’’ It was a slogan put up during the Mussolini era, when the church was used as a boxing-and-fencing gym by young Fascists. Vitali placed the cube in front of it to obscure it, but he didn’t want to remove it altogether. ‘‘I really wanted to keep every piece of history on the walls.’’

The bureau in the bedroom is a dining-room buffet that was designed by his grandfather and made in his factory.

The lighting system, including the LED strip, was designed by Rada Markovic Ligthing Design Studio. They chose a cool LED to emphasize the blues in the vaulted ceiling.’’

Work studio of Vitali’s wife, Annette Klein, a jewelry historian.

Architectural contrast in terms of materials(in the wall finishing: exposed brick instead of painted plaster) and the pre-existing structure (low ceiling made of dark wood), wherethese two niches in the internal wall served as a perfect match for creating personal, intimate lighting using 29W 3000K LED strips for each niche to bring out the warmth of the brick.
