Match Report;

Randall Cobb sets record, then gets injured in big Dolphins win over Diesels-----------------------------------------------Wellington,NZ- It was billed as a shoot out between the Leagues best two Wide Receivers and the first quarter lived up to that and more. The Central Coast Dolphins and Wellington Diesels combined for 35 points on a record setting day. Contributing most was Randall Cobb who recorded all of his 5 catches, 183 yards and 3 scores in the opening period.

Cobb was unstoppable whether it was quick screens or deep routes down the right hand side. Wellington tried to play him with single coverage and that blatantly did not work. However whilst he produced statistics that would make a lot of players season Cobb also ended his game early as he was stretched off late in the first with a knee injury that looked serious but later Dolphins officials down played.

Wellington matched the Dolphins good start. Jayron Hosley twice ran kick offs back for touchdowns but his first effort was called back because of a hold. Troy Williamson was again effective but his contributions were more of a short possession receiver and he did not produce the same explosive plays that Cobb was able to generate.

Wellington were held to a punt on their first drive but the following 5 possessions all ended in maximum scores. Cobb took a screen in 15 yards for the first 7 pointer before Hosley spun to the outside to race 90 yards on the return. The Diesels came up to press Cobb on the next possession but he beat Hosley at the line of scrimmage and Nathan Geia hit him deep for the 71 yard score. Scott Baitiri ran in from short yardage on the next series but Cobb again broke the single coverage for a 79 yard score before then end of one quarter.

The speed of the game could not be continued and the 2nd quarter slowed considerably. David Henaway finally put Wellington back into the game with a 6 yard swing pass to complete an 11 play drive. But the Dolphins were able to drive the ball deep again and as time expired in the first half Jay Hlad kicked a 24 yard field goal.

The second half was busy but produced few points. The only score coming when Linebacker Ben Maori ran back a 31 yard interception of Peni Puna.
