Please write the RULES for HYPHENS in the WRITING Section of your binder.

1.Use a hyphen (-) to separate some closely related words.Ex) half-moon2.Use a hyphen between fractions (in words).Ex) three-fourths3.Use a hyphen between two-digit words in numbers from 21 to 99Ex) eighty-five4.Use a hyphen when dividing a word of two or more syllables when they are at the end of a line of writing and there is no more space on that line. Ex) Jenny and Garth went on vacation early so they were ab- sent from school for two days. .

Use yesterday’s notes. Rewrite the sentences placing a hyphen (-) where needed.

1. I have twenty two outlets in my house that are three pronged.

2. I ate one third of the cake and he ate the last two thirds.

3. Jim’s presentation was top notch and he received a ninety five percent.

Write a sentence and separate a word at the end of the line correctly between syllables with a hyphen. Look at Rule 4 from your notes.
