DOI (DIGITAL OBJECT IDENTIFIER) AND OJS: THE BEST CASE USE IN THE BRAZILIAN UNIVERSITY

EDILSON DAMASIO*, EDUEM-STATE UNIVERSITY OF MARINGÁ PRESS. [email protected]

Introduction

The State University Press of Maringá Press-Eduem (publisher) decided that the use of the DOI would be essential for the journals Acta Scientiarum, as a requirement to increase the visibility of articles published in these seven journals, and publications later UEM. So he contacted the representative Crossref the International DOI Foundation, IDF and requested the information essential for their use. Today, the DOI is used by ten of the Journals Portal of UEM (with 27 journals), and is also being used for conference proceedings online. The OJS CrossRef plugin is essential in the success, have most 3.500 DOIs actived.

Relate

The plans of the University, this contract would be institutional, mainly because all the needs of digital identity of UEM would be met. The use of OJS for online journals, facilitated the activation of the DOI, as the software tool is to export files in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) format adopted by DOI for metadata. Receiving the DOI prefix, User and password to access the “Atypon system” in Crossref used to manage the whole process of uploading the XML digital documents. The upload is performed in the form of "tests" or "real time" ready for publication. With the implementation of the DOI the journals had increased interoperability of metadata in the main indices of bibliographic citation.

Conclusion

The utilization of the plugin CrossRef XML in OJS is essential. In the UEM that journal articles are having greater visibility, therefore, are ready to be inserted in the DOI link references, and also to the text of the article in the curriculum “Lattes” Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), which centralizes metadata curriculum of Brazilian researchers, that this is also interoperable with the DOI, creating greater visibility for scientific output ranked list in the curriculum. Thus the investment in this platform OJS and to link dynamic enabled the journals were indexed in the ISI-Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), SciELO and SCOPUS (Elsevier).
