    The site of Currie Kirk has been aplace of Christian worship for overchurch was in 1200. Currie wasknown as Kildeleith at this time.

    A new church was built c1300and extended c1600. The presentchurch was built in 1785 withadditions made in 1968. It housesa Knights Templar Gravestone , WarMemorials, Cavalry Crosses andmany other interesting items. It liesin a beautiful setting and has aninteresting graveyard.

    Simpson & Brown Architects havedesigned an innovative, low energyhouse in Currie that is superinsulated,air-tight and incorporates a mixof renewables. It is compact tominimise heat loss. William Nelson the publisherrestored the well in 1887, and thishidden gem has been restored againin 2013.

    14. THE ALLOTMENT HUT

    In September 2010 SutherlandHussey Architects wereapproached by the City ofEdinburgh Council with an invitation

    to design a small meeting hut for anew allotment site in Stockbridgeon the edge of a designated WorldHeritage Site. Opened in 2013 thehut, a wedge-shaped, single volume

    timber building, now serves as ameeting space for plot holdersand outside groups run by IndiaPlace Allotment Association. It alsoserves to promote organic growingand a sustainable lifestyle within thewider community through eventsand open days.

    15. THE DEAN GARDENS

    21. INCH HOUSE

    Once situated within the forest ofDrumselch, Inch House has existedin many forms for at least 600 years.Bought by James Winram, Keeper of

    the Great Seal of Scotland around1617, it then passed to the Gilmourfamily who retained the house until1946. Originally built as an L shaped

    tower with barrel vaulted ceilings,the building retains many of itsoriginal features and is now a busyCommunity Centre. Visitors will

    Lyon & Turnbull is a privatelyowned international auction housebased in Edinburgh. Founded in 1826,it is Scotlands oldest auction house,

    the largest independent auctionhouse in the United Kingdomoutside of London and one of thefastest growing auction houses in

    the UK. Lyon & Turnbull is based ina neoclassical building, designed byArchibald Elliot and built in 1821. The

    building was originally BroughtonPlace Church and some of theoriginal features still remain.

    24. BURNS MONUMENT

    This Choragic style of monumentcommemorates poet RobertBurns through its architecturalstyle; such monuments were builtin ancient Athens to celebrate thearts of oratory and recitation. Itwas designed by Thomas Hamilton

    28. 6 BROUGHTON PLACE

    Originally the home of a smallScottish religious sect theA-listed former place of worshipis hidden within the residentialneighbourhood on Barony Street.Designed by Alexander Black itwas completed in 1835 and hasrecently come in to the ownershipof the Scottish Historic BuildingTrust. Inside you can get close to

    the pulpit designed by David Brycein 1873, the decorative cupola, and

    sit at the original feast tables atwhich the Glasites ate and drank.

    The walls of the Song School arecovered with the murals of PhoebeTraquair. Painted over a four-year period from 1888-1892, themurals illustrate a hymn of praiseby all creation (Benedicite Omnia

    the natural world. The Song Schoolis in daily use by the CathedralChoristers and therefore publicaccess is normally limited.

TheTrades Maiden Hospital is thename of their charity, founded in1704 by Mar y Erskine. The currentbuilding is the fourth building tohouse the charity, moving therein 1971. The previous buildings, alldemolished, were located in whatis now Chambers Street, RillbankTerrace and the Grange.
