BIOGRAPHIES Rachel Harris Rachel gained her Diploma of the College of Radiographers (Therapy) in 1988 at The Ports- mouth School of Radiography. In 1995, she at- tained a Master of Science Degree in Social Research and since then has worked at The Ply- mouth Oncology Centre as the Research Radiogra- pher (current grade Superintendent II). She finds research and audit at the Centre an interesting and fulfilling role, and has a fervent belief in the future of therapeutic radiography. This is evident from her success in setting up radiographer led research at the Centre, which has led to clarifying research for operational staff and enabling a real culture of evidence-based practice, where nearly all of the staff have been, or are, currently involved in a project. Rachel’s particular areas of interest are the psychosocial issues relating to head and neck can- cer; rectal cancer; skin care during radiotherapy; and patient positioning. She is also a member of the College of Radiographers’ Research Group. She lectures at various multidisciplinary confer- ences at regional, national, and international level; the results of her work have appeared in many journals. Amongst her many lecture invita- tions, Rachel presented two faculty papers at the American Society of Radiation Technology in New Orleans in October 2002. One of her most recent lectures was to a group of Cancer Nurses in Campobasso, Italy. Rachel sits on many scientific committees of national and international conferences. In Febru- ary 2000, she was asked to sit on the ESTRO radiation technologists committee in Brussels as the UK representative. Since then, she has been actively involved in ESTRO conferences throughout Europe. In addition, she is one of the College of Radiographers’ representatives for the UK Radiation and Oncology (UKRO) conferences, which have proved to be very successful. In 2000, Rachel’s name was published in the millennium edition of Who’s Who in the World and has featured each year. Since 2002, she has also been noted in both Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in Health and Medicine.
