INTRODUCTION

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: A 3IBLIOGRAPHY OF SELECTED DOCUMENTS FROM ERIC isa bibliography of documents taken from RESEARCH IN EDUCATION, a monthly pub-lication of the Educational Resources In(ormation Center (ERIC). RESEARCH INEDUCATION (RIE) is a monthly index which lists resumes of documents publishedby ERIC. The documents from RIE are available in two forms, hardcopy or micro-fiche. Hardcopy is reproduced copies of original documents and microficheare 4 x 6 film cards which must be read using a special reader.

The purpose of compiling the bibliography was to re-package materialfound in the ERIC system to enable this material to reach more people. Itwas hoped that this form of re-packaging would allow for easier access andmore efficient use of ERIC materials.

The documents found in this bibliography were collected by a search ofthe 1967, 1968, and 1969 indexes of RIE. Three descriptors were used in thesearch; Physical Education, Physical Education Facilities, and PhysicalFitness. Only documents with the above descriptors were selected and re-viewed. Those documents that had little relevance to the title were notincluded.

The bibliography is by no means complete. It is meant only to serveas an aid to people using the ERIC system. For those who wish to have a morecomplete listing, especially in other related fields, the author would suggestusing descriptors other than those used in this search.

HOW TO ORDER ERIC DOCUMENTS

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) is a national information networksponsored by the U.S. Office of Education as a means of providing the public withinformation about current research in education. Central ERIC, in Washington, D.C.,coordinates the activities of 19 clearinghouses, each focusing on a specific areaof education. The Clearinghouses are located at universities and institutionsthroughout the United States.

Each clearinghouse is responsible for indexing, abstracting and disseminatingdocuments in its field. Documents, together with resumes are sent to ERIC DocumentReproduction Service (EDRS). The documents are assigned an ED number and publishedin Research In Education, ERIC's monthly abstracting journal.

Once the document appears in Research In Education it is available to the publiceither in microfiche or hard copy form. Microfiche is a transparent sheet of filmon which up to 70 consecutive pages of a 55nent can be camera-recorded. These4 x 6 microfiche cards cannot be read without the use of a microfiche reader. HardCo is a 6 x 8 print-out of the microfiche. Each microfiche card costs 25 it.Hard copy costs 5tt per page. The price of each ED document is listed in the resume. All documents listed in RIE can be ordered from:

ERIC Document Reproduction ServiceThe National Cash Register Company4936 Fairmont AvenueBethesda, Maryland 20014
