INTRODUCTION
This Directory is prepared and published as one of the Library of Michigan's objectives outlinedin the Joint Statistical Agreement with the U.S. Bureau of the Census. Comments and suggestionsabout the Directory should be forwarded to the Library of Michigan.
Where to go?
For statistical information on the people of Michigan and its economy, the Michigan State DataCenter Program is an excellent source. Participating agencies geographically cover the state andhandle thousands of requests each for year for data and data analysis. Requests come from stateagencies, businesses, researchers, students and community groups all over the state. The MSDCPcreates custom products and mapping profiles from its deposit of major decennial, economic andagricultural products from the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
Who can help?
The Michigan State Data Center Program is an umbrella organization with a Lead Agency: Michi-gan Information Center (in the Demographic and Statistics Unit of the Michigan Department ofManagement and Budget); and two Coordinating Agencies: Library of Michigan and the MichiganMetropolitan Information Center - MIMIC (in the Center for Urban Studies, Wayne State Univer-sity). The Program is enhanced by a statewide network of forty-one affiliates representing diverseassortment of public agencies. They are as follows:
Academic institutions 3
City/state agencies 2
Community organizations 2
Councils of government 3
Libraries 15Planning commissions 16
All Michigan State Data Center Program agencies routinely fill requests for population, housingor economic statistics. By prior arrangement, many affiliates can supply custom reports usingCensus Bureau data and locally collected information. Since fees may be charged for custom re-ports, users should request a quote.
How to use this directory:
This directory will enable you to locate the nearest participating agency, determine the hours ofservice and identify key staff. The Table of Contents (page 2) lists each agency in alphabeticalorder. To find an agency in a particular city, turn to the Directory itself.
Other Census Resources can be found in a special section following the Directory. This sectionincludes, the Regional Census Center, the information section of the Detroit Field Office, andparticipants in two related library networks: Bureau of the Census depository libraries and U.S.Government Printing Office depository libraries.
