Motivation

• This document provides a joint user scheduling scheme for the DL-MU-MIMO transmission which takes into account diverse quality of experience (QoE) requirements of mobile devices.

• By adding the proposed user scheduling scheme, HEW could offer improvements to the overall performance enhancement to support high-data-rate multiple users with diverse QoE requirements.

General Characteristics of System Model

• Spatially uncorrelated flat fading channel

• Perfect current channel state information (CSI)

• Singular value decomposition based Block Diagonalization method

• The scheduling decision is made based on QoE requirements, current CSI and current queuing state information of all MUs

Proposed User Scheduling Scheme

The proposed user scheduling scheme can be summarized as the following four steps:

1) Each MU estimates its current CSI and uploads it to AP using the uplink dedicated pilots.

2) AP receives the CSI from all MUs and obtains the QSI through observing MUs’ buffers.

Step 3b: AP choose a possible user subset l, allocate power using (6) and calculate the utility

value Fl using (5)

Step 3c: compare Fl with F*, and set F*= max{Fl ,F*} and l* = argmax{Fl ,F*}

Examined all possible subsets?

Exit and output

Yes

No

User with good channel quality or urgent QoE requirements will be allocated with higher power and

thus have larger utility value

Step 1: each MU estimates its current CSI

Step 2: AP collects the QoE requirements, current CSI and QSI of each MU

Step 3a: AP initializes the optimal user subset l *= 0 and utility value F*= 0

Conclusion

• This document provides a joint user scheduling scheme for the DL-MU-MIMO transmission which takes into account diverse QoE requirements of mobile devices.

• The proposed scheme incorporates both the source statistics and queue dynamics to determine the subset of users chosen for each scheduling slot.

• The proposed scheme can not only maintain the QoE requirements in the presence of bursty data traffic but also maximize the system throughput by exploiting the multiplexing diversity gain and multiuser selection gain.
