Do you have any questions? How to answer that tough interview question.

What do you say when an interviewer asks: “Do you have any questions for me?” If your answer is no, you may have just wasted a golden opportunity. Why not impress them instead by having a few questions ready to ask. Here are some we prepared for you.

What would you expect me to accomplish in the first two to three months?WHY? This question shows you are eager to hit the ground running.

What does a top performer look like in your team? WHY? This question indicates you want to shine in the role over the long term. And if top performers are expected to stay until 10pm each night, it’s good to find out early.

What really drives results for this organisation?WHY? This shows you are thinking about the company as a whole not just your individual job descriiption.

What is the culture like in your team?WHY? This question indicates you are looking for a role you can fit into.

How does the company deal with...?WHY: You need to fill in the blank with an industry trend or challenges the business may be facing. Which shows you’ve done your homework and prepared well.

What do you enjoy about working here? Why? By making the question personal, you start a personal connection.

Do you have any hesitations about my experience or skills?WHY? Wouldn’t you rather find out and address this upfront? It’s confronting but could provide the opportunity to correct a misconception about your abilities.

Who previously held this position and why are they leaving?WHY? This may give you an insight into the environment. If they were promoted, it’s a great sign for your own future. If they left after just a few months, you need to ask more questions to find out why.

What is the next step in the process? This is a good question to turn to if the interviewer has already answered everything you had prepared during the course of your interview. And it shows you’re keen to move forward.
