• Concentration camps were places where millions of ordinary people were enslaved often starved, tortured and killed.
• Most camps were located around huge centers of Jewish population- many were in Poland.
• Extermination camps or death camps had the primary function of systematically killing people by gassing.

Prisoners

Treatment
• Many of the prisoners died in the concentration camps through deliberate maltreatment, disease, starvation, and overwork, or were executed as unfit for labor.
• Prisoners were transported in inhumane conditions by rail freight cars, in which many died before reaching their destination.
