Resolution Regarding Immigration Reform and Workers’ Rights WHEREAS, we remain committed to comprehensive immigration reform that is comprised of many things including enhanced worker protections and a broad and inclusive pathway to citizenship; and WHEREAS, we continue to support the President’s Executive Actions on Immigration which would bring millions of people from the underground economy more fully into the fabric of our country; and WHEREAS, we believe that a rights-driven approach to immigration reform – one that respects the hardships and contributions of those living here as well as those moving here and prevents our immigration system from being used to lower wages for all working people – is needed; and WHEREAS, a core principle of this rights-driven approach is the right of workers to organize; And WHEREAS, too often, immigration enforcement occurs in the midst of an organizing drive, bargaining campaign, or other concerted job action; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Democratic Party will work to ensure that immigrant workers who assert their rights on the job through organizing and other concerted actions will be protected and that we reject the use of immigration enforcement actions as a tool to deny workers their collective rights.
