2 Booking Information Pack is sent to each donor. This details your local collection centre for appointment, or details the appointment for overseas collection.

3 DNA samples are collected from each donor.

4 Results are issued as soon as 5 working days from receipt of samples.

Legal DNA testingLegal DNA Testing is our recommended standard for DNA Testing.The procedure for testing involves verification of each donor’s identity on the day of collection.All samples for Legal DNA testing are collected and transported by chain-of-custody, so the report issued may be admissible for legal purposes.

Family Law Act (1975) DNA testing DNALabs perform Legal DNA Testing to the criteria set under the regulations of the Family Law Act (1975) and the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA). This is the standard used for matters before the Children's Court, registry of Births Deaths & Marriages and Family Court matters (including matters involving Child Support).The alleged father, mother and child are all required to present samples, and affidavits are required from each donor (or guardian/legal carer of a minor).Court ordered testing can also be reported to this standard.Testing that has been performed to the standards set by NATA or Family Law regulations may avoid costly repeat testing.

What is Immigration DNA testing?The Department of Immigration and Citizenship will at times ask an applicant or sponsor for confirmation of a biological relationship by DNA testing for entry applications to Australia.

What is DNA?DNA is the genetic blueprint that is unique to each person. DNA is inherited from each biological parent, and an inheritance pattern can allow scientists to establish a biological connection for paternity or relationship testing.

What is DNA testing?DNA testing is a general term that includes parentage and relationship testing. DNA testing is an extremely powerful means of identification as your DNA is inherited equally from both your parents. This means that a comparison of DNA from two or more people can be used to confirm or exclude genetic relationships.

ResultsResults can be issued as soon as 5 working days* from receipt of DNA samples. The report is sent to the requesting party, as instructed on your application for testing. Please advise us if you wish for the report to be sent via your doctor, lawyer or other nominated professional adviser on application.*Rarely, extra testing is required for complex cases. Please allow additional time for

complex relationship enquiries.

Types of Relationship testingDNALabs can test for many biological family relationships.

A few examples are listed below.

Paternity testing can determine the biological link between an alleged father and child.

The Probability of Paternity can be determined with a confidence of up to 99.99% (Maternity can also be determined in this way).

DNA Relationship testing can be performed to resolve questions such as shared paternity between siblings, sibship, twin studies and other relationship verification using autosomal (non-sex chromosome) X-STR or Y-STR.

Y-STR testing compares markers on the Y-Chromosome to check for common paternal lineage.

We can also test full or half sibship between sisters. X-STR testing compares markers on the X chromosome (males have one, females have two). The comparison of a mother’s DNA against two daughters can confirm if the daughters are full or half siblings.
