DanaAsiahassuccessfullydevelopedprojectsinallthreecategoriessinceits
establishmentinJuly2011inSingapore,withlowmanagementoverheads
resultingina13.4:1leverageratioensuring92.5%ofourdonors’fundsreachthe
targetedcommunities.
Essentialtooursuccessinimplementingprojectsthatmakeanimpactisthorough
auditingofallactivitiestoensurefundsareappliedcorrectlyandprojectsare
implementedeffectively.Teammembersregularlymonitorourprojectsthrougha
combinationofsitevisits,discussionswithbeneficiariesandmeetingswithlocal
implementationpartners.Detailedprojectduediligenceandfinancialauditsof
individualprojectsandNGOpartnersarecompletedannually.
Integraltotheeffectivenessofouractivitiesisoursmallteamthatisdedicatedto
ourmission.Theyhavewide-rangingexperienceindevelopingphilanthropic
strategiesthatincorporatedonorpassionswithgenuineneed.Ithanktheteam

ThepastyearhasbeenasuccessfuloneforDanaAsiawith
thedevelopmentofsomeuniqueprojectsthatarethe

itsdonors,DanaAsiahasgrantedUS$2.3milliontowards
projectsthataredrivingchangeinAsia.
OurImpactSocialBusiness–US$1.7millionofgrantsarefundingthe
developmentofthreesocialbusinesses,
aChickenRaisingTrainingCentrein
Cambodia,aMicrofinanceBusiness
SchoolinManilaandanAutoMechanic
CollegeandWorkshopinBangladesh.
Thesethreeinnovativeprojectswillwork
withover1,500beneficiariestowardsthe
developmentoftheirownincome
generatingbusinesses
Microfinance–US$80,000isfundingfinancialandagriculturaltrainingfor457membersincluding411femaleswhohave
establishedsmallbusinessraisingstockandgrowingcrops.Todatethemembers
havesavedatotalofUS$9,057,with334membersaccessingsavingsloansand177
membersusingprojectloanstodeveloptheirbusinesses.
Education–US$450,000hasensuredmorethan3,200childrenandyouthhave
beenabletoaccesshighqualityeducationandtrainingfacilitiesthroughthe
fundingofschools,vocationaltrainingcentres,scholarshipsandother
educationalprograms.
Health–US$90,000hasprovidedtothefamilieslivinginthesqualidenvironment
ofthePhnomPenhDumpsite,oneofAsia’sworst.400mothersandtheirbabies
havereceivedmedical,educationalandsocialsupportand7,500medicaland
dentaltreatmentshavebeenprovidedtochildrenandtheirfamilies.
ThecomingyearwillbeaparticularlyexcitingtimeforDanaAsiaasitworksmore
closelywithGrameenAustraliaforthedeliveryofgenuinelyeffectiveand
sustainableprojects.TheGrameenfamilyisthegloballeaderinthedevelopment

maternalandinfantratesintheSteungMeancheydistrictofPhnomPenh,home
oftheinfamous“SmokeyMountain”dumpsite.
Priortotheestablishmentofthe
MaternalCareProgram(MCP),pregnant
mothersandtheirbabiesweredyingat
alarmingratesof8%aslocalhospitals
turnedthemawayiftheywereunableto
payfeesthatcouldamounttoupto2
weekswork.Withgenerousfundingfrom
akeyDanaAsiadonor,theProgramwas
establishedintoreducemortalityrates
andimprovethehealthandwellbeingof
womenateachstepofmotherhood
alongwiththeirbabies.Theprogram
providesanintegratedmaternalcare
servicewithmedicaltreatment,healthsupport,educationandcommunity
outreach.
MCPsuccesshasbeenoutstanding,asitisoneofthefewprogramsintheworld
toachievezeromaternaldeathsoverits478births.

afteronlyafewdays.Theteamtried
tocontactherbutsheavoidedthem.
Finallytheywereabletomeetwith
ThoySalandhermother.Theylearnt
thatsheleftduetoherfatherwhodid
notallowhertocomeandthreatened
herwithviolence.ThoySalalsosaid
thatshefearedthatifshedidjointhe
Farm,herfatherwouldtakethe
chickenssheraisedforfood.
TheteamdiscoveredthatThoySal’s
fatherwasaviolentmanwhoverbally
abusedthefamily,threwcooking
utensilsandbitthemiftheydidnot
givehimmoneytobuyalcohol.Thoy
Salwaslivinginacottageatthe
Dumpsitetoescapeherfather,buthe
regularlydraggedherhome.
TheFarmTeamproposedthatonly
ThoySalwouldbepermittedtocome
totheFarmtoensureherfatherwas
notawareofheractivities.ThoySal
agreedtojoinandparticipatedinthe
drawforachickenshed.Shereminded
theFarmTeamoftherisksshefaces.
“Sisters,pleasedonotgotomyhouseif

Establishedin2003,Child’sDreamisacharitableorganisation
dedicatedtoprovideunconditionalhelptounderprivileged
childrenandyouthinthe“MekongSub-Region”(Myanmar,
Thailand,LaosandCambodia)withaspecificfocusonremote
andneglectedareasoftheregion.
Themissionoftheorganisationistoempowermarginalisedcommunitiestoshapetheir
ownfuture.Thisisachievedbyworkingwithcommunitiestoimprovehealthcareand
educationforchildrenandyouth.
Theorganisation’sactivitiesrangefromhealthinterventionsforchildrentoreducechild
mortality,constructionofeducationfacilitiestoprovideuniversalbasiceducation,youth
employmentcentrestohighschoolanduniversityscholarships.
CambodianChildren’sFund Foundedin2004,CambodianChildren’sFundprovideslife-
changingeducation,nourishmentandhealingtovulnerable
childrenfromsomeofCambodia’smostdestitute
communities.OriginallyCCFfocusedonthehealthandwell
beingof45children,howevertodaytheFundcaresformore
than1,400childrenandhasextendeditsservicestoprovidefor
familiesandcommunitiesincrisis.
TheFundofferseducation,healthcare,nutritionandsafesheltertochildrenandtheir
familiesinneed.Givingtheparentstheopportunitytoliftthemselvesfrompoverty—
whileensuringthattheirchildrenhaveaccesstoeducation—notonlyprovidesforthe
greatergoodbutalsorelievesthechildrenoftheiradult-likeburdens.Themajorityof
childreninCCF’scarewereformergarbagepickersandprimarycaretakersoftheir
siblings,livingandworkingonPhnomPenh’sformermunicipalgarbagedump.

FarmerLivelihoodDevelopment
FarmerLivelihoodDevelopment(FLD)wascreatedinAugust
2002bylocalisingSCALE,aninternationalNGO,createdby
SoutheastAsiaOutreach(SAO),whichbeganasafish-focused
foodsecurityprojectin1991.FLDenvisagescommunities
wherepeopleinteractwithintegrityandempathytoimprove
andsustaintheirlivelihoodactivities,andwherepeoplecan
solvetheirownproblemsthroughjusticeanddemocracy.
FLD’smissionistoworkwithtargetedcommunitiestoimprove
productivity,promoteandcreatejobsandenhancemicroand
smallenterprise(MSE)practicestobetterfoodsecurityand
livingconditions.
During2010,FLDestablishedfourcomplementary,stand-aloneprogramsthatwill
providethenecessaryassistancetohelpcommunitiesemergefromthecycleofrural
povertytheyfinddifficulttobreakoutof,withoutprofessionalandcompassionate
assistance.
