YOU CHOSE…

Fables

So, let’s just say we are game designers…

…more specifically, Game designers working on the new point-and-click Adventure: The Wolf Among Us. Imagine yourselves in that board room, locked in by Telltale Games and they won’t let you out until you have at least the beginning or a synopsis of the opening level.

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

Let’s start by asking ourselves…

Page 4: DIY: Mystery Choose Fables example

To continue we must know our main characters…

What are their motivations?

Who are they? What do they do? Where do they come from? When does this story take

place? Why are they there?

Fable Backstory Fables began as a

comic book/graphic novel in 2002

Taking our favorite fairy tales and turning them gritty and dark

Their stories revolve around Mysteries and murders.

Our main character is Bigby Wolf, the Sheriff of Fabletown, a secret community of refuge fairytale characters who were kicked out by an evil overlord and must now try to live in our world, in New York City.

What is the most believable way we can

keep the integrity of the characters while moving from panels and print to cinematic animation and

gameplay?

What is “Game Logic”?

The Main Mystery A series of

unexplainable murders points to normal everyday people committing the crimes. Is this true or is someone else pulling the strings? As Sheriff Bigby, you must solve this case without causing alarm within the Fabletown community.

Where to start?

Should we research other “Point-and-Click” Adventure style games?

Should we delve into both the classic fairy tales and these darker fairy tales that “Fables” is based upon?

How can we show the beginnings of the game while “slipping-in” the player controls at the same time?

How do we engage the player?
