Diving Emergency Specialist

Program Purpose

• To recognize divers who strive to become better divers by taking scuba continuing education and DAN’s unique dive specific first aid classes

Three levels of DES• DES Provider

– Diver-level recognition

• DES Instructor– DAN Instructor-level recognition

• DES Trainer– DAN Instructor Trainer-level recognition

DES Provider• Open to DAN Members and non-members• Must be current in:

– Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries (or equivalent)Plus three of the following five courses– Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba (or equivalent)– Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for Scuba (or equivalent)– First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries (or equivalent)– On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers (or equivalent)– REMO2

TM

or– Diving Emergency Management Provider (DEMP) including Advanced O2

• Must be certified as Rescue Diver • Must have current CPR & First Aid certifications

DES Provider

• Apply directly to DAN Training

• $20 application fee

• If requesting to use equivalent certification, please include copy of course outline

• Equivalencies must be from dive specific first aid courses which cover the same knowledge and skills as DAN courses

before release to public at no charge• Coupon for 10% off oxygen units or

accessories

DES Instructor• Active Status DAN Instructor

– Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuriesand three of the following five courses

– Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals (BLSPRO) or equivalent

DES Instructor

• Must have certified at least 10 providers each in the four qualifying courses or five DEMP (including AdvO2)

• Additionally, must have certified 5 BLSPRO providers or equivalent

• Apply directly to DAN Training

• $20 application fee

DES Instructor Trainer• Active status DAN Instructor Trainer

– Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuriesand three of the following five courses

– Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries– First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries– Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for Scuba Diving– On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers– REMO2

plus

– Basic Life Support for Dive Professionals (BLSPRO) or equivalent

DES Instructor Trainer

• Same teaching requirements for DES Instructor and must also have certified at least five Instructors in four of the qualifying DAN courses

• Additionally, must have certified five instructors in BLSPRO or equivalent

• Apply directly to DAN Training• $20 application fee

Process for recognition

• Once application is received, DAN Training will review to ensure it meets requirements.– If equivalency is requested, we will review

the program for all required content

• Upon approval, application will be processed and recognition packet sent

DES Instructor & Instructor Trainer Benefits

• Special listing in Online Instructor/Trainer Directory– Under each state or country, DES Instructors will

be listed first by city

• DES Instructor card, certificate, patch• Coupon at recognition and again annually for

discount on training materials• All benefits awards to DES Provider
