From Father Conner
Happy Easter!
SJoA wishes you all a very joyful Easter Sunday! The
death of Christ liberates man from his sin. His resurrection
from the death opens the way to eternal life (cf. CCC 654).
Living under the burden of sin is the immense anguish of
man. Objectively speaking, Christ frees the human race
from this heavy yoke. Realizing this, we must turn to Him
and strive to live new lives. This is now possible.
Moreover, it is our great hope. Let us not be slow in
clinging to the Lord, Who has shown His inexhaustible
love for us. Happy Easter!
Expressions of Gratitude
To LAS and those who readied the church for Easter: the church had to be “transitioned” from one ceremony to another. I thank the LAS for preparing the church (decorating, cleaning, etc.) for our Triduum observances.
To the KCs and Ushers: thank you, gentlemen, for ensuring the church’s good order after our services, and for helping the LAS with some of the heavier objects that needed to be rearranged for our Triduum services.
To the Schola Cantorum (i.e., the Choir): we thank you for sacrificing time and rest. The chants were wonderfully executed and the Masses beautiful!
To the altar boys: who are the absolute best in the business. Our servers know no rivals anywhere around these parts. Their reverence enhances our prayer at Mass.
Special debt of gratitude
I wish to thank especially everyone who has assisted with
the work at St. Joseph Mission Church during Lent.
Several folks gave up every Saturday morning during Lent
to come work on the various projects. Much has been
accomplished. I will be listing in an upcoming bulletin
what we have done and where we will be going from here.
At present, I would mention that we’ll take a Saturday or
two “off” so that those who have been involved can have
some time to enjoy the beginning of Paschaltide.
Mass Schedule this Week
If you attend daily Mass, please make a note that the daily
Mass schedule is different this week.
First Holy Communion Mass The Mass for First Holy Communion is next Sunday, at
10:00 am. We need the first communicants here by no later
than 9:40 am for pictures. They should wait at the main
entrance of the church. We will take pictures at the front
door. After the First Communion Mass, we will proceed to
the Parish Hall for a lovely reception, which the LAS is
hosting. (Thank you, Ladies!) But, we also need the help of
parishioners to make the reception. Please take the list of
side items we need for the reception … and please bring
the item that applies to your family’s name. I ask that you
do not blow off events such as this. One of the main
critiques levied against Catholics is that our parishes are
not as friendly, that we do not welcome people as do some
non-Catholic Christian congregations. Participating in
events such as this is one way to remedy such things. We
are a family, all of us at SJoA, and this is an important
occasion for our family. You should be a part of it. The
KCs will provide the meat for the First Holy Communion
reception. (Thank you, gentlemen!). Each of us will take
care of the rest. So then, please help build a culture of
family and love at SJoA. Your involvement in an event
like the First Holy Communion reception will help. It will
also affirm our young communicants in the Faith. Please
don’t abandon them. Finally, the reception (a full meal),
will be an enjoyable event. Come, have some fun!
Plenary Indulgences Available!
A plenary indulgence is available, under the usual
conditions, for attending a First Holy Communion Mass.
This is further incentive for attending next Sunday’s 10
o’clock Mass. Additionally, a Divine Mercy plenary
indulgence is also obtainable for the feast of Divine Mercy
(next Sunday). Go to www.sjoaoberlin.com to find our
more info about all things related to the Divine Mercy.
Solemn Holy Hour for Divine Mercy SJoA will host a Solemn Holy Hour for the feast of Divine
Mercy (next Sunday). The Holy Hour will be at 6:00 pm.
We will conclude our Divine Mercy Novena at the Holy
Hour. A special plenary indulgence, moreover, is available
on Divine Mercy Sunday. Go to www.sjoaoberlin.com to
find our more info about all things related to the Divine
Mercy.
Knights of Columbus BBQ Fundraiser I want to alert you to an important fundraiser for our local Knights of Columbus Council. The KCs will cook BBQ dinners on Sunday, May 7th. We’re going to have guests in the parish that day for the Baccalaureate Mass at 10:00 am. Then, after the 10:00 am Mass we’re going to have a Marian Procession to mark the beginning of our parish wide novena to Our Lady of Fatima. By the time we finish with Mass and the procession, we will have worked up a good appetite. Please consider supporting our KCs, and our Ladies Altar Society (who will sell drinks that day). They do so much good for our community and this is an easy way to help them continue their charitable deeds. Note: families may stay and eat in the Parish Hall if they so wish.
