The Governor’s Glow:

Wow! What a busy first month this has been…and in so many ways, already a very rewarding one for me. I’m just amazed at the tremendously generous and caring Rotarians we have in our district…way more than just Rotarians In Name Only. The way people have stepped up to help with the relief efforts in Eastern Washington, to the outpouring of help at Rotary Days at the Bite of Seattle. It’s incredible the way our members are Lighting Up Rotary. I just can’t say enough good about 5030! World Polio Day: 24 October 2014 World Polio Day is quickly approaching on October 24th. This is a chance for Rotarians, clubs, and districts across the world to come together to fight polio. There are many ways you could mark the day. Dedicate your club meeting to focus on Rotary’s work to end polio that week. Community fundraisers on/around World Polio Day are great a way to raise awareness of our cause in the general public. You could take the opportunity to remind government officials to support the global commitment to a polio free world- Rotary’s top priority. On World Polio Day, wear your End Polio Now pin and encourage your friends and family to do the same. We promised the children of the world that we would eradicate polio, and Rotarians keep their word. We are this close, and getting closer every day. Thanks to you, we will End Polio Now.

Be a Changemaker in Rotary

Bold, bald, unified: Rotary Club joins fight against cancer Show of solidarity: Kent Rotary Club members and guests had their heads shaven to support fellow Rotarian, Kay Cook, middle, and Northwest Hope & Healing, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to women in need who are battling breast and gynecological cancer at the Swedish Cancer Institute.

Submitted by Steve Lingenbrink, PDG

Have you ever thought about something that you think would make Rotary better, but those darn rules in the Manual of Procedure get in the way?

Well here’s your chance!

It’s almost summer and we will soon start the 2014-15 Rotary year. That means there are only six months to prepare and submit proposed legislation for the 2016 Council on Legislation (COL). So what would you propose to change? Think about it. The recent legislation that relaxes the club attendance requirements to include service projects was proposed by a Rotarian; his club had the proposal approved by a vote of the District and then submitted to Rotary International for consideration at the 2013 Council on Legislation. Yup, it starts with ONE Rotarian with a good idea. So, what’s your good idea? It works like this - Rotary International must receive clubs’ and districts’ proposed legislation, including confirmation of the district’s endorsement, by 31 December 2014. Please note that this deadline is strictly enforced and proposed legislation received after the deadline will not be considered. If you or someone in your club has a good idea, contact me or PDG Rosemary Aragon. We are your COL contacts. We are available to help you take that good idea from an idea to proposed legislation. You could change Rotary…
