On February 21, 2016, Dr. Bendross-Mindingall joined family members, friends, educators, Superintendent Carvalho, elected officials and community leaders to mourn the loss of another child to gun violence. Six year old King Carter, was a wonderful first grade student at Van E. Blanton Elementary, and Warrior of the Liberty City Optimist Club (Warriors). With the help of our community, the suspects in the fatal shooting were caught. Our march for justice and safer communities must not end. We need the “village” to come together to protect, educate and mentor our children. They are our future and we must show our love and support to Save Our Children. #EnoughIsEnough

We must come together to #StopGunViolence!

Community Relations Board (CRB) on February 25, 2016. The forum, held at the African Heritage Cultural Center in Liberty City, provided a safe space for youth to engage with law enforcement,

service providers, and community leaders. Our youth spoke about the need for more after school and weekend programs and

activities, better advice from elders, job skills and workforce training, adequately funded community facilities, and more

“LOVE” from parents and the community. Another youth forum will take place in District 2 on Thursday, March 17, 2016,
